As the title says, I believe that Jamar has past his best. He is seriously slow and once the ball leaves a ruck contest, he is literally useless. This year he didn't manage to impact himself on many marking contests or kick many goals. I think it was a mistake signing him up for a 3 year ( is that right ?) deal.

The talk of us trading Martin, who I believe is a far better number 1 ruckman than Jmar does not sit well with me. And our other rucks are not looking to flash at the moment, other then Spencer who did alright towards the end of the year.

He was injured most of the year. Given a sound preseason, I think you'll find he will impose himself a lot more in stoppages and contests. I agree, he needs to do more, but he's capable.

Well past his best, still a good tap ruckman, just uselss around the ground.

Becomes a liability against Ruckman who excel around the ground.

He has never been more than a tap ruckman though...

He will be value as a mids get from F-grade to D or C-grade in 2013.

I don't rate the effect of ruckmen outside of the square (probably both squares but mainly the one on the middle).

A dominant ruck in the centre square is more value than one who gets 6 kicks and 8 handballs around the ground.

We got 99 problems but Jamar would be around 85 on that list.

So what. Considered a ripper footballer, all that matters.

Does he play like Jack Watts or Stef Martin?

Seriously, stuie, isn't it about time we drafted hard bodied mids rather than spindly 202cm developing boys?

That wasn't his point or yours though was it?

Seriously Jumbo, do you have a clue what you're talking about?! The guy is a tank, he's not a "spindly development boy".

Martin for Wellingham, there's a mid. Viney plus our other picks, trades, and FAs mostly be mids.

We need impact players now....we can't wait for developers.

Further, big guys take years to develop.

I say a big no.

Not gonna bother discussing this with you cos you obviously have no idea about this player.

You think he's a skinny wussy basketballer who'll take years to develop... Pretty much the EXACT opposite of what every single expert is saying.

Back to Jamar...

I'm still a fan. He averaged the second most taps per game of any ruckman in the league for the regular season, with 32.4 per match (surprisingly, this is still the primary job of a ruckman). And this was in a poor year by his standards. Yes, he was ordinary around the ground this year but he can be a lot better when fully fit.

The only people who can determine if his body will hold up for another three years are in the FD. Misson and Craig have exceptional experience, so if they say he can play for another three years, I'll take their word.

Fair enough - but don't get all emotive about it.

Experts have been wrong before, as have some posters.

It's a fact that big guys take a bloody long time to hit their straps.

Hope we're still cool and can debate our opinions to each other freely.

Grundy will slot into the side from day dot, is 202cm and already over 100kg, big contested mark, great at ground level, can snag a goal, has good pace too. Most of all he is a high intensity player who will do anything to win, we need players like him in our team.

Is also good mates with JV

Fair call mate. I guess I just saw Martin being offered as trade bait and Grundy being touted as our probable pick 3 and put 2 and 2 together...

But seriously, as M2W pointed out, he's exactly the sort of player we should be going after (and the type Neeld would love).

Still cool mate, of course!

Sounds like a pick one.....but he won't go #1 will he?

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

A few new faces joined our veteran Demonland Trackwatchers on a beautiful morning out at Gosch's Paddock for another Preseason Training Session. BLWNBA'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I arrived at around 1015 and the squad was already out on the track. The rehab group consisted of XL, McAdam, Melksham, Spargo and Sestan. Lever was also on restricted duties and appeared to be in runners.  The main group was doing end-to-end transition work in a simulated match situation. Ball mov

WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. Windsor's run won't be lost playing off half back. In 19 games in 2024 he kicked 8 goals as a winger. I see him getting shots at g

Demonland's own Whispering Jack was not in attendance but he kicked off proceedings with the following summary of all the Preseason Training action to date. We’re already a month into the MFC preseason (if you started counting when the younger players in the group began the campaign along with some of the more keen older heads)

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
