FOR ESTABLISHED MIDFIELD PLAYERS and not just kids with heaps of potential. We need senior players around the club while our kids develop their trade! Players that aren't getting a game at their club or in the best 22 etc who might just be able to help us out while we develop some of the younger players.

The following are players are midfielders listed as unrestricted free agents, who i think MFC should have a look at.

Shannon Byrnes- 28 yrs old 108 Games

Clinton Young- 26 yrs old 109 Games

Steven Salopek- 27 yrs old 121 games

Matt Rosa- 25 Years old and 124 games

Sam Butler- 26 years old and 88 games

Jarrad Moore 26 years old and and 68 games.

I am going to go with worst case scenario here and use pick 3 on Viney, which at this stage ( by my calculations) would leave us with picks 4 & 11. If we can get atleast 2 of these blokes and use pick 4 on Toumpas and 11 on boak I would be happy.

We will be shopping for more than just midfielders, if McLardy's comments mean anything (which I imagine they would):

"The Demons will target a key forward during the trade period and are the best-placed club to snare Travis Cloke, should he decide to leave Collingwood, according to Melbourne president Don McLardy."

With all of the midfielders in the world and only one reliable target up forward, we are wasting our time... I hope we get Cloke and a couple of decent midfielders.

Be crazy not to go after Cloke and the talent to deliver it to him.

If we get Cloke I will hand my membership back! There is no way we should spend that sort of money on a player like that.

If the club was stupid enough to recruit like that, I'd simply give up and go support GC.

You certainly do have some absurd views on who we should bring to the club.

A bit of a pokemon method really.

C'mon really? So when we gave a legend of our club in Junior the ass you would keep your membership but if we were to bring someone in you would hand your membership in? If we the members were all going to hand our memberships in after a bad list management decision there would be no members. By the way I want Cloke but I don't think he is worth all that coin in saying that if that's what it takes so be it. Either way I'll sign up again next year.

Yes!

How many bad decisions should I keep supporting?

I was [censored] off just like the rest of MFC supporters when they gave Junior the arse, He was a great leader and the perfect player and when his time came ex player to have around the club to help develop the younger players sadly that wont happen!

To get Travis Cloke would absolutely F%$K this club up! He is well over priced for the consistency he delivers, and the precedence his two brothers set before him is not very promising. The writing is on the wall with this bloke, it will be a huge pay day and will deliver F all! The last thing we need for our players and club is someone that will hold a club to ransom over money when players 100% more talented and consistent sign for much less because they buy into the team ideal!

While letting Junior go has stunted the growth of our younger players and overall club position obtaining Cloke at such a huge price would cripple us financially and developmentally.

From what you've see this year and you had to choose one would you take Mitch Clarke at his value or Travis Cloke for the reported 5 for 5??

It wouldn't financially cripple us. It fits into a salary cap we can afford at 100 percent. The contract would be heavily front ended so when he is 30 he would be on bugger all. Even though he is struggling a bit this year he is still has the most contested marks in the league. Mitch Clarke didn't come to us on the cheap either he just looks cheap compared to cloke's contract offer. Either way it's no reason to not be a member in my opinion but that's your decision.

I think we just need to land a couple of experienced midfielders and we will be right.

add Viney and Toumpas to that list and thats 4 players who could bolster our midfield .

We can still get Cloke as well....why not? Clinton Young and Matt Rosa are two i would take in a heart beat.

Id also be happy with Shannon Byrnes....but we could also snare another quick goal sneak in the draft.

The club obviously believes that they can afford it, so unless you are privy to information that says the club is telling us porkies, then the money involved goes out of the equation. If we were to stack up on midfielders, pray tell who they are going to be delivering the ball to... all of those forwards that have stepped up in Clark's absence?

Go ahead and hand your membership back, I will buy another for my second son to make up the difference.

Well said!! And when was the last time the Dees had a chance to land a 25 yr old, premiership CHF who is arguably the best contested mark in the competition?

    REDEEMING by Meggs

It was such a balmy spring evening for this mid-week BNCA Pink Lady match at our favourite venue Ikon Park between two teams that had not won a game since round one.   After last week’s insipid bombing, the DeeArmy banner correctly deemanded that our players ‘go in hard, go in strong, go in fighting’, and girl they sure did!   The first quarter goals by Alyssa Bannan and Alyssia Pisano were simply stunning, and it was 4 goals to nil by half-time.   Kudos to Mick Stinear.

    REDEEM by Meggs

How will Mick Stinear and his dwindling list of fit and available Demons respond to last week’s 65-point capitulation to the Bombers, the team’s biggest loss in history?   As a minimum he will expect genuine effort from all of his players when Melbourne takes on the GWS Giants at Ikon Park this Thursday.  Happily, the ground remains a favourite Melbourne venue of players and spectators alike and will provide an opportunity for the Demons to redeem themselves. Injuries to star play

    EASYBEATS by Meggs

A beautiful sunny Friday afternoon, with a light breeze and a strong Windy Hill crowd set the scene, inviting one team to seize the day and take the important four points on offer. For the Demons it was not a good Friday, easily beaten by an all-time largest losing margin of 65 points.   Essendon threw themselves into action today, winning most of the contests and had three early goals with Daria Bannister on fire.  In contrast the Demons were dropping marks, hesitant in close and comm

    DEFUSE THE BOMBERS by Meggs

Last Saturday’s crushing loss to Fremantle, after being three goals ahead at three quarter time, should be motivation enough to bounce back for this very winnable Round 5 clash at Windy Hill. A first-time venue for the Melbourne AFLW team, this should be a familiar suburban, windy, footy environment for the players.   Essendon were brave and competitive last week against ladder leader Adelaide at Sturt’s home ground. A familiar name, Maddison Gay, was the Bombers best player with

    BLOW THE SIREN by Meggs

Fremantle hosted the Demons on a sunny 20-degree Saturdayafternoon winning the toss and electing to defend in the first quarter against the 3-goal breeze favouring the Parry Street end. There was method here, as this would give the comeback queens, the Dockers, last use of the breeze. The Melbourne Coach had promised an improved performance, and we did start better than previous weeks, winning the ball out of the middle, using the breeze advantage and connecting to the forwards.

    GETAWAY by Meggs

Calling all fit players. Expect every available Melbourne player to board the Virgin cross-continent flight to Perth for this Round 4 clash on Saturday afternoon at Fremantle Oval. It promises to be keenly contested, though Fremantle is the bookies clear favourite.  If we lose, finals could be remoter than Rottnest Island especially following on from the Dees 50-point dismantlement by North Melbourne last Sunday.  There are 8 remaining matches, over the next 7 weeks.  To Meggs’

    DRUBBING by Meggs

With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.

    GARNER STRENGTH by Meggs

In keeping with our tough draw theme, Week 3 sees Melbourne take on flag favourites, North Melbourne, at Casey Fields this Sunday at 1:05pm.  The weather forecast looks dry, a coolish 14 degrees and will be characteristically gusty.  Remember when Casey Fields was considered our fortress?  The Demons have lost two of their past three matches at the Field of Dreams, so opposition teams commute down the Princes Highway with more optimism these days.  The Dees held the highe

    ALLY’S FIELDS by Meggs

It was a sunny morning at Casey Fields, as Demon supporters young and old formed a guard of honour for fan favourite and 50-gamer Alyssa Bannan.  Banno’s banner stated the speedster was the ‘fastest 50 games’ by an AFLW player ever.   For Dees supporters, today was not our day and unfortunately not for Banno either. A couple of opportunities emerged for our number 6 but alas there was no sizzle.   Brisbane atoned for last week’s record loss to North Melbourne, comprehensively out
