1. What is the difference between a legitimate quality midfielder and a quality midfielder?

2. Given Trengove is a midfielder surely Neeld would not have picked him as Captain if he was not "legitimate quality?"

Surely he was not selected on the basis of his youthful appearance alone.

Do you still believe in Neeld given such a calamities decision?

Do you concede that Neeld is simply not much of a motivator and Trengove along with many others have not progressed let alone thrived under him??

Want to see you twist your way out of this one....then we can talk Yaa baa...I can even post you a song about it :)

Trengove is an interesting one. He is struggling no doubt but to mind it has nothing to do with his role as captain. Hopefully we can put his 2012 form down as an aberration.

One thing that needs to be corrected is this idea Neeld is somehow infallible. He is human and will make mistakes along the way, as do all coaches.

Yes a confession at last! A mistake.

Not along the way though ....This was the first one and from the very start. It was a statement from Neeld. Has gradually gone downhill from there. His media skills are an embarrassment .

As opposed to selecting key defenders with good foot skills and they are????

IMO we would be better off with a smaller defense (i.e. three of Frawley, Rivers, Garland, MacDonald, Sellar, McDonald and three of Grimes, Bartram, Blease, Tapscott, Nicholson, Strauss). It gives us more run and skill but comes at the trade off of being caught short in the air. At times this year we have had a five and one mix (with Macdonald and Garland as small defenders), which is unbalanced. IMO Garland should be played on the third tall and either Tapscott or Grimes on the slowest small.

Just for shits and gigs I will contribute......

I guess the problem with philosophy is that it never holds up in practice. To explain my statements - it's fine to have an idea or a way you want your team to play it's getting the team to execute it is the real challenge.

No shite we've had a bad year - there are a number of reasons you can list why. (injuries, form, poor leadership, poor preparation, players simply not good enough to compete at AFL standard) Whatever reason you can think of has happened to this club this year.

Back to your point - Neeld hasn't chosen his crop of players to implement his philosophy of football on. The few players he has brought in (Mitch Clark, and the draftees look promising) they've shown a little.

This club needs to harden the f*@k up and stick together - give Neeld a chance to implement his style and philosophy otherwise we will continue down the same path going nowhere.

Excellent contribution and yes when it comes down to it we all do it for "shits and gigs"

We certainly are going somewhere. A Coles Advert is the stark reminder. Whether your "nowhere" is the same place only you know this. Just what is his philosophy apart from Hot Air Statements.

His Draftees?? Not sure if you mean Magner and Couch. Both serviceable but promising. Cook? Leigh Williams maybe. Who else are his promising draftees apart from Clark?

I understand why you could draw that bow. There could well be some animosity there.

I just don't see Neeld as the type to give a [censored].

Unless he was duped. After all he is a novice coach in an unfamiliar organization. I don't think he was fully aware of the depth of the problems at the club.

Your Neeld banner is also tedious, repetitive and boring. This is your opinion and that of your cronies. Bored at your blind faith in an unproven coach who seemingly couldn't lead an ant to a honey pot.

You have no rhyme or reason for any of it.

You openly advocate mass culls and blame all the current crop of players. You don't even entertain the idea of the actual problem being the Guy who's calling the shots, game plan and current culture.

Tedious indeed!

This was not my thread yet you responded with some reference to Yaa baa and a comment directed at Thaipantsman..

An apology on that score would be nice.

Let’s consider Mark Neeld’s position in a different light.

Most good assistant coaches aspire to be senior coaches, which is an ambitious and admirable quality.

Unfortunately for them, it is normal for many to fail in their aspiration.

The reasons are varied - maybe the opportunities are limited, maybe an assistant gets a chance and is simply not able to make the step up, maybe circumstances conspire against them, or maybe the people who selected them were not good enough at their job, etc. etc. (I have deliberately omitted the playing list, as it should be a known factor to all interested parties. Apart from that, one would have to ask why an aspiring coach would take on a playing list if it was known to be no good.)

Being a senior coach requires an enormous range of abilities – maybe Neeld simply hasn’t got it. There’s no shame in that – he tried. Those who appointed him deserve more attention.

IMO the one certainty is that MFC needs a new coach rapidly – the time for a blame game is long past!

Now now RR,

You are at home in this forum because you have the support of your forelock tugging mates that also happen to be pro Neeld. Doesn't make me afraid to challenge the tripe you write. Mass Culls etc... One decent midfielder.....Give us a break...

Will give you another chance just to check whether there might be some savvy behind the words..

Not sure you clearly understand what yea baa is either? You understand Football? You advocate the mass Cull of a Football Club. Players that have been selected by some of the best judges going around to be capable of playing great football. Cull them all. It's the fault of these kids and in no way the fault of an untried, dull and boring coach.

Have I missed something? Do I drink that much beer at the G? I'm concerned about my mental health. Am I so delusional that every time I have left the G in the last 4 years I have been wondering when or if our the players are going to get good when I should have been thinking it's all Bailey's fault and now it's Neeld's fault?

I just think its incredibly funny that anyone can draw the categorical concluson that Neeld is a dead duck coach after one year in charge of a list comprising maybe a dozen fair dinkum .players, half a dozen wannabes and the rest either too wet behind the ears or too wet between them.

If he had a reasonable list , that had a decent spread of talent and Ok fitness as a commonality and we were getting done week in week out then I too would be concerned.

Lets make this simple for some to understand, this is the first year of a three year process. The FIRST yeqr. Its clearout year.

IMO this quote is the most accurate one and consistent to my position in the Neeld discussion.

    REDEEMING by Meggs

It was such a balmy spring evening for this mid-week BNCA Pink Lady match at our favourite venue Ikon Park between two teams that had not won a game since round one.   After last week’s insipid bombing, the DeeArmy banner correctly deemanded that our players ‘go in hard, go in strong, go in fighting’, and girl they sure did!   The first quarter goals by Alyssa Bannan and Alyssia Pisano were simply stunning, and it was 4 goals to nil by half-time.   Kudos to Mick Stinear.

    REDEEM by Meggs

How will Mick Stinear and his dwindling list of fit and available Demons respond to last week’s 65-point capitulation to the Bombers, the team’s biggest loss in history?   As a minimum he will expect genuine effort from all of his players when Melbourne takes on the GWS Giants at Ikon Park this Thursday.  Happily, the ground remains a favourite Melbourne venue of players and spectators alike and will provide an opportunity for the Demons to redeem themselves. EASYBEATS by Meggs

A beautiful sunny Friday afternoon, with a light breeze and a strong Windy Hill crowd set the scene, inviting one team to seize the day and take the important four points on offer. For the Demons it was not a good Friday, easily beaten by an all-time largest losing margin of 65 points.   Essendon threw themselves into action today, winning most of the contests and had three early goals with Daria Bannister on fire.  In contrast the Demons were dropping marks, hesitant in close and comm

    DEFUSE THE BOMBERS by Meggs

Last Saturday’s crushing loss to Fremantle, after being three goals ahead at three quarter time, should be motivation enough to bounce back for this very winnable Round 5 clash at Windy Hill. A first-time venue for the Melbourne AFLW team, this should be a familiar suburban, windy, footy environment for the players.   Essendon were brave and competitive last week against ladder leader Adelaide at Sturt’s home ground. A familiar name, Maddison Gay, was the Bombers best player with

    BLOW THE SIREN by Meggs

Fremantle hosted the Demons on a sunny 20-degree Saturdayafternoon winning the toss and electing to defend in the first quarter against the 3-goal breeze favouring the Parry Street end. There was method here, as this would give the comeback queens, the Dockers, last use of the breeze. The Melbourne Coach had promised an improved performance, and we did start better than previous weeks, winning the ball out of the middle, using the breeze advantage and connecting to the forwards.

    GETAWAY by Meggs

Calling all fit players. Expect every available Melbourne player to board the Virgin cross-continent flight to Perth for this Round 4 clash on Saturday afternoon at Fremantle Oval. It promises to be keenly contested, though Fremantle is the bookies clear favourite.  If we lose, finals could be remoter than Rottnest Island especially following on from the Dees 50-point dismantlement by North Melbourne last Sunday.  There are 8 remaining matches, over the next 7 weeks.  To Meggs’

    DRUBBING by Meggs

With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.

    GARNER STRENGTH by Meggs

In keeping with our tough draw theme, Week 3 sees Melbourne take on flag favourites, North Melbourne, at Casey Fields this Sunday at 1:05pm.  The weather forecast looks dry, a coolish 14 degrees and will be characteristically gusty.  Remember when Casey Fields was considered our fortress?  The Demons have lost two of their past three matches at the Field of Dreams, so opposition teams commute down the Princes Highway with more optimism these days.  The Dees held the highe

    ALLY’S FIELDS by Meggs

It was a sunny morning at Casey Fields, as Demon supporters young and old formed a guard of honour for fan favourite and 50-gamer Alyssa Bannan.  Banno’s banner stated the speedster was the ‘fastest 50 games’ by an AFLW player ever.   For Dees supporters, today was not our day and unfortunately not for Banno either. A couple of opportunities emerged for our number 6 but alas there was no sizzle.   Brisbane atoned for last week’s record loss to North Melbourne, comprehensively out
