Kookaburras win Bronze by defeating Great Britain 3 - 1 . Well done and well fought out . Interesting slant taken by Ric Charlesworth on our funding levels in this article (below link) Makes you wonder about our funding levels in many other sports . There doesn't seem to be much doubt that many other Counties are 'Out-funding' us . Our total of 35 medals could well be quite an achievement (all things considered) ...

Good racing wasn't it ? We've been able to look at a lot of 'Other' sports this time around .

Really liked the Archery and the BMX stuff was good too . Never watched these sports before .

All good .......well not quite 'All' :)

If they hadn't have got that turn around penalty when they hit the front on the downwind leg .......... IF.

Yeah , the BMX was good.

The blokes can really get 'em moving.

Plenty of thrills and spills add to the excitement.

Liked the sprints in the canoes aswell.

All power and speed.

As for the Walking.

Even my young kids kids took 1 look and said.

"Thats stupid." ... Sure is kiddies.

Stephen Kiprotich of Uganda wins the Men's Marathon . Running 3rd for a long time , he surged and went straight past the 2 other eventual medalists (Kenya's Abel Kirui and Wilson Kipsang Kiprotich) . Great win ...

Although the Boomers didn't get a medal in this Olympics there where a few noteworthy performances.

Patty Mills tops Olympic basketball point scoring averages

Mills finished with an average of 21.2 points per game, and had the tournament-high score in a match of 39 against Great Britain.

TOP SCORERS AT LONDON 2012

1 Patty Mills (Aus) 21.2

2 Kevin Durant (USA) 19.5

3 Manu Ginobili (Arg) 19.4

4 Pau Gasol (Esp) 19.1

5 Luis Scola (Arg) 18.0

6 Andrei Kirilenko (Rus) 17.5

7 Carmelo Anthony (USA) 16.3

8 Leandrinho Barbosa (Bra) 16.2

9 Luol Deng (Gbr) 15.8

Young Boomer Matt Dellavedova was in the top 10 for the tournament for assists per game, while retiring skipper Matt Nielsen was equal fourth for steals.

Also it'd be nice to see Bogut injury free and back playing in the green and gold again.

Haha. Yes I think I've just recovered fully 45, too many late nights during Olympics. Disappointing end for the Kookaburra's after being 2-1 up with 12 min left. Amazing turnaround. Germany stuck with it and taught the Aussies a lesson (4-2).

Great thread guys.

I didn't think I'd watch it, but I did. Amazing finish, I reckon 80% of the field that crossed the line soon required a wheel chair. The first two (gold, silver) crossed un-aided and were fine. Quite concerning, yet amusing at the same time.

The Record Fakers

This year marks the 30th anniversary of the first World Athletics Championships in Helsinki. It was dominated by the athletes of East Germany - many of whom, it has since emerged, were the product of a state sponsored doping regime.

5 live Track and Field looks back at what was the sport like then, the human and emotional cost of systematic doping, and what lessons the sport must learn as it fights the cheats in 2013.

It's Game Day and the Demons are once again faced with a classic 8 point game against a traditional rival on King's Birthday at the MCG. A famous victory will see them reclaim a place in the Top 8 whereas a loss will be another blow for their finals credentials.

    BOILED LOLLIES by The Oracle

In the space of a month Melbourne has gone from chocolates to boiled lollies in terms of its standing as a candidate for the AFL premiership.  The club faces its moment of truth against a badly bruised up Collingwood at the MCG. A win will give it some respite but even then, it won’t be regarded particularly well being against an opponent carrying the burden of an injured playing list. A loss would be a disaster. The Demons have gone from a six/two win/loss ratio and a strong percentag

CLEAN HANDS by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons headed into town and up Sydney Road to take on the lowly Coburg Lions who have been perennial VFL easy beats and sitting on one win for the season. Last year, Casey beat them in a practice match when resting their AFL listed players. That’s how bad they were. Nobody respected them on Saturday and clearly not the Demons who came to the game with 22 players (ten MFC), but whether they came out to play is another matter because for the most part, their intensity was lacking an

    ALAS SPRINGS by Whispering Jack

I got the word on Saturday from someone who knows someone inside the Fremantle camp that the Dockers were pumped and supremely confident about getting the W the next day against Melbourne at TIO Traeger Park in the red heart of the country. I was informed that the Dockers were extremely confident for a number of reasons. They had beaten the Demons on their home territory at the MCG at their last two meetings so they didn’t see beating them at Alice Springs as a problem. They belie

The Demons head back to Melbourne after an embarrassing loss to the Dockers to take on the Magpies at the MCG on Kings Birthday. With a calf injury to Lachie Hunter and Jacob van Rooyen possibly returning from injury who comes in and who goes out?
