Injury List - Round 17

Me too

If you look hard enough there is almost always a reason to smile.

Got mine this morning when the MFC site says Jamar out for up to 4 weeks.

If we use the same scale they use to show LJ 's condition and return date then I would say we will not see jamar again in 2012.

Wouldn't hate that idea of just putting him on ice and giving the other guys full responsibilities for the rest of the year.

I'd be surprised if Jamar is only out for 3 weeks. Calf injuries always seem to take longer to heal for older players. And he's now done it twice which suggests the need for a very conservative approach.

....and why rush him back in this dead season. Surely an opportunity to asses Spencil vs Fitzy - as ND should have done with Jamar / Jolly when White was totally lame in a dead season all those years ago.

Jamar and Jurrah will be out for the rest of 2012 nothing to gain in playing them, get both fit and right for Pre-season.

What, even if they're fit?

By that rationale there's nothing to be gained by playing anyone at all. Just inform the AFL that we forfeit until we can field a side capable of competing for finals.

Jamar will have 4-5 weeks off with a calf, I don't see any reason why we shouldn't put him out for the year and start to get his body 100% recovered for pre-season. Liam Jurrah has played 3-4 games this year and has his pending issues to face, the only reason I would play Liam this year is if he looks like he will be locked up next year, if not get him fit enough to join the main group from day on pre-season. I was lucky to attend some pre-season training last year, we had so many players in Rehab that it would have been hard to train the main group. Some days that I attended we were lucky to have 20 fit blokes training, how do you educate a team with new game plans when most of your list can't train with the main group?

We all know the importance of a full pre-season and these two players are vital in our side in 2013.

We have a lot of players that have a lot to play for over the next 7 weeks, the club will make 7-8 changes to our senior list at years end, of those 7-8 changes most players on the cull list will be playing on Saturday.

Dr I do not agree if LJ is fit then he plays at Casey and the MFC.

This club needs wins between now and the end of 2012.

Both the players and members need to believe there is a future in 2013.

PS Not trying to be smart but LJ has played 1 and a bit quarters against Sydney

I totally agree

If they are fit enough get their butts out there to earn their pay. Everyone is bloody sick of losing. They are supposed to be professionals, I don't know why in the last 5-10 years it has become acceptable practice to 'rest' blokes and 'put them on ice' klike they are delicate little flowers. FMD, there are 15 names on that list and it is KILLING us.

We've had terrible luck this year, I know we have been terrible and bringing some guys in is hardly the panacea for our problems, but if we could have a team on the park with Clark, Jurrah, Green, Martin in the same forward line at least 10 times it would have been much more exciting to watch and difficult for oppositions to hold down. Here's hoping that next year Clark, Jurrah and Martin can play in the same forward line for 2/3 of the year! I know most of our problems are in the middle, but with a stronger line-up forward and back we can keep quality players in the midfield longer.

This is very short term attitude, our players haven't been able to execute the coaches game plan, the only way they will get better at this is through pre-season, what is killing us is the fact that prior to Christmas last year we had more players in rehab than training with the main group. If you want to see improvement in 2013 we need 90% of our list ready to go first day of pre-season. I don't want to go to training to see LJ walking laps or that unfit he has to run by himself, I don't want Jamar missing weeks due to an ongoing calf injury. I don't see any reason why you would want to bring players back for the last 2-3 weeks of the year.

Be smart we need to manage our entire playing group to ensure the required players will be ready for Late Oct early Nov, no need to take risks on injured players.

Honestly I wouldn't be overly surprised if there is alot more to this LJ story then what we are told. Honestly 1 game in a year? A wrist injury that took 10 months to heal?

Now an ankle injury that said 2-4 weeks, 8 weeks ago?

There is allot more to the story then what we are being told I would say, and I think it is a good thing if the club are hiding alot of info about it.

I even wouldn't rule out a surprise delist on him. (Dont ask me why but something just isn't right)

I guess some guy (or gal) in a wig (if they still wear them there) in Alice Springs could shortly have an even bigger say in Liam's future than our medical staff!

but you say all that as if you have some authority on whther or not playing out the end of this year will in any way hinder these players for the start of next preseason. You have no idea - you are just making an assumption based on nothing. If my car has been to the mechanic and been fixed I am going to take it for a spin, i'm not going to leave it in the grage for a few weeks and let it get 'more fixed'.As I said, professional athletes or delicate fragile little flowers, get out there. Besides, you don't seriously believe that if a player has a slight niggle at the start of next preseason it is going to make even the slightest difference to the team's fortunes, be real.

olisik I hate to say I agree with you - something is extremely not right. The chances of him being the superstar we had all bookmarked are completely dashed IMO. Even if he escapes penalty, is embraced by the club and the AFL, and gets himself fit (finally) I very much doubt he will be able to maintain the focus required to be an AFL player, carrying the weight of his cultural and familial baggage. There you go Melbourne cop that, another star sizzles out.

Enjoy life and regain our sanity OD B)

Not sure it is repairable RR

Too many years have past.

I think the best I can hope for is a bit single Malt to sooth the pain.

Of course winning 10 games next year would be a hell of a tonic.

What I'm saying is why waste our time to bring injured players back for 2-3 games at the end of the year, unless they are fighting for survival on our list it is pointless. Especially Jamar, if he is out for 4-5 make it 7, he is such an important member to our team, give him a longer time off to get his body 100%.

If Evans is not injured again I want to see him get a call up

Same goes for Cook, they both need a feel of AFL before the seasons out. Just so they can see the standard and know what they are busting there chops for over summer to prepare for.

If a player is injured, he doesn't play.

If he is fit to play, he plays.

It seems an extraordinarily simple equation to me but you seem hell bent on making it not so.

He doesn't think its worth busting there chops through fitness tests and such for just a game or 2.

    EASYBEATS by Meggs

A beautiful sunny Friday afternoon, with a light breeze and a strong Windy Hill crowd set the scene, inviting one team to seize the day and take the important four points on offer. For the Demons it was not a good Friday, easily beaten by an all-time largest losing margin of 65 points.   Essendon threw themselves into action today, winning most of the contests and had three early goals with Daria Bannister on fire.  In contrast the Demons were dropping marks, hesitant in close and comm

    DEFUSE THE BOMBERS by Meggs

Last Saturday’s crushing loss to Fremantle, after being three goals ahead at three quarter time, should be motivation enough to bounce back for this very winnable Round 5 clash at Windy Hill. A first-time venue for the Melbourne AFLW team, this should be a familiar suburban, windy, footy environment for the players.   Essendon were brave and competitive last week against ladder leader Adelaide at Sturt’s home ground. A familiar name, Maddison Gay, was the Bombers best player with

    BLOW THE SIREN by Meggs

Fremantle hosted the Demons on a sunny 20-degree Saturdayafternoon winning the toss and electing to defend in the first quarter against the 3-goal breeze favouring the Parry Street end. There was method here, as this would give the comeback queens, the Dockers, last use of the breeze. The Melbourne Coach had promised an improved performance, and we did start better than previous weeks, winning the ball out of the middle, using the breeze advantage and connecting to the forwards.

    GETAWAY by Meggs

Calling all fit players. Expect every available Melbourne player to board the Virgin cross-continent flight to Perth for this Round 4 clash on Saturday afternoon at Fremantle Oval. It promises to be keenly contested, though Fremantle is the bookies clear favourite.  If we lose, finals could be remoter than Rottnest Island especially following on from the Dees 50-point dismantlement by North Melbourne last Sunday.  There are 8 remaining matches, over the next 7 weeks.  To Meggs’

    DRUBBING by Meggs

With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.

    GARNER STRENGTH by Meggs

In keeping with our tough draw theme, Week 3 sees Melbourne take on flag favourites, North Melbourne, at Casey Fields this Sunday at 1:05pm.  The weather forecast looks dry, a coolish 14 degrees and will be characteristically gusty.  Remember when Casey Fields was considered our fortress?  The Demons have lost two of their past three matches at the Field of Dreams, so opposition teams commute down the Princes Highway with more optimism these days.  The Dees held the highe

    ALLY’S FIELDS by Meggs

It was a sunny morning at Casey Fields, as Demon supporters young and old formed a guard of honour for fan favourite and 50-gamer Alyssa Bannan.  Banno’s banner stated the speedster was the ‘fastest 50 games’ by an AFLW player ever.   For Dees supporters, today was not our day and unfortunately not for Banno either. A couple of opportunities emerged for our number 6 but alas there was no sizzle.   Brisbane atoned for last week’s record loss to North Melbourne, comprehensively out

    GOOD MORNING by Meggs

If you are driving or training it to Cranbourne on Saturday, don’t forget to set your alarm clock. The Melbourne Demons play the reigning premiers Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields this Saturday, with the bounce of the ball at 11:05am.  Yes, that’s AM.   The AFLW fixture shows deference to the AFL men’s finals games.  So, for the men it’s good afternoon and good evening and for the women it’s good morning.     The Lions were wounded last week by 44 points, their highest ever los

    HORE ON FIRE by Meggs

The 40,000 seat $319 million redeveloped Kardinia Park Stadium was nowhere near capacity last night but the strong, noisy contingent of Melbourne supporters led by the DeeArmy journeyed to Geelong to witness a high-quality battle between two of the best teams in AFLW.   The Cats entered the arena to the blasting sounds of Zombie Nation and made a hot start kicking the first 2 goals. They brought tremendous forward half pressure, and our newly renovated defensive unit looked shaky.
