Casey Scorpions v Port Melbourne

How did Strauss go?

I think it would be a good reward for him to get a game or two this year, considering all he's been through.

This Couch must come in for James Magner! Magner needs a rest for sure. With Jamar a supposed lock in and Spencer out I doubt that Fitz will get a run despite being BOG as listed on the VFL website. Green is a definite in and I think that Aaron will stell get a run because of the role he plays in the team. AND GET THE GYS IN FOR GOD'S SAKE!

Yeh I agree, I want to see him play! Was an emergency this week so is obviously close. In for Dunn who has shifted to HB?

AND GET THE GYS IN FOR GOD'S SAKE!

3 weeks I've been saying that.

Better Gys as a sub, than Moloney. FFS!

Great work! really enjoyed the coverage even though was a little late at 645pm.

BIG Q: Selection issue. Next week go for the tried but getting old Brad Green or the new, for some reason unknown to many has evaded selection, T. Couch.

The only area where I have to disagree with you Fence. It was a tough day at the office for Davis and I thought he was beaten again today for the second week in a row after several good games which had him on the brink of selection for Melbourne.

Thanks KC, much appreciated and a very good win after a disappointing match last week.

AND GET THE GYS IN FOR GOD'S SAKE!

Perhaps lacking match fitness. Missed most of the pre-season, then a couple of big slabs of games (ankle then jaw), and you would have to wonder as to whether he could run out the game at the top level. Faded today in final term from reports I've read.

He's had 4 matches in the VFL now? Match fitness should be fine for next week!

Morton in best !!!!!!!!?????????????

Sheezus I was there and as my associate concured, just an average average game! and if he gets in this week on that performance then not only won't I go again.. I'll spew up! Anyone who was there today want to weigh in with an appriasal of Mortons Game??

Who, was he playing?

Players I liked for the future.

J Fitzpatrick T Couch L Tynan N Jetta T Smith R Petterd J Gysberts J Strauss Casey-No 30

What role was Morton playing?

When the club puts a player in the bests that you don't expect, then it's usually because they played a specific role or they were being measured by specific criteria.

I concur.

So

Morton in best !!!!!!!!?????????????

Sheezus I was there and as my associate concured, just an average average game! and if he gets in this week on that performance then not only won't I go again.. I'll spew up!

So he has played his role well enough, according to the club, to be one of Casey's best players for the day. He has adhered to the coach's instructions better than most others on the side.

Yet "if he gets in this week ... not only won't you go again ... you'll spew up"?

I didn't see the game today, but he would certainly help with our ability to spread from stoppages. If he's done what he has been asked to do then I have no problem with him playing AFL next week.

Will I not go to another game if he's selected? I'm not a fan of hyperbole, nor attention seeking. Would you like a medal? It will say:

"For heroic self sacrifice due to a protest against the selection of a fringe AFL footballer for a game vs Freo" - It's not exactly lying in front of a tank, is it?

Well enough ?? Now tell me axis are you happy to have Morton in the team and play a usual self cost effective non contact standofish game which he is renowned?? Now tell me??

Will you join me having a spew?? No mate shouldn't get a game and if he does ahead of the four I have mentioned then no I won't go to the footy again because IMV we are not fair dinkum. Cale still, still must prove himself worthy of being given another chance, and the only way he will do that in my eyes is go harder at the ball and not play this airy fairy standofish "Outside" rubbish!

You still want Juice back in the side Picket, so it doesn't give your posts a lot of credibility.

Morton is a good player playing in the wrong era, they are trying to make him what he's not but unfortunately if he can't conform to the mopern way he will fall by the wayside.

He's having a crack but he just doesn't look comfortable playing the current style of the game.

On another note, it's really good to hear that Gysberts is continuing to work hard defensively in stoppages as well as winning the footy.

Tom Couch, kicking 4 goals, indicates that he's spreading more and getting into space. That's what he needs to do more of to become an AFL player, and there's a good chance that he could come in this week (if that was the case).

Green doing well and getting good possession numbers as well as goals should help us in the AFL. Especially now that we have a couple of tall forwards playing (Garland and Rivers) which should allow him to get a smaller opponent which is when he excels. He doesn't have the pace to mismatch the big guys, but he is still much better overhead than most smalls.

Anyone at the game... wat do you rekon about picking up galea as a rookie or a low pick? seems to be able to kick multiple goals quite regularly?

BUT your not going to ever ask Cale Morton to TAG someone in AFL surely? Big difference !! gees do we want him to tag a Chris Judd??? Bah humbug

Morton has been used as a tag before, and done quite well at it. Improving his contested and defensive work can only improve his ability to fill this role.

I get that you don't like Morton, picket. So much so that you want a medal of martyrdom.

You're clearly biased against him, so don't expect your views on him to be taken by the Demonland readers as being objective.

Does that mean that I think the sun shines from Cale's ass? No, but he has some excellent attributes that, if harnessed, could help the side a lot.

Righto Axis lets agree to disagree and let the judgement of time tell the story!

Based on that statement, I don't believe you understand what I'm saying.

You appear to be thinking it's "Morton = good vs Morton = bad".

I'm saying "Selecting Morton to play this week = a reason to not go to any more games and also spew up vs Selecting Morton to play this week = not necessarily a reason to not go to any more games and also spew up"

Do you understand the difference? It's independent of any "judgement of time".

I went to the game today and it was easily the highest standard VFL game I seen in  a long while. Really good skills, both sides with some serious marking power, genuine pace all over the ground and some serious body contact. I love local footy and this was a gem. Port are serious big bodies and very strong over the ball but I was impressed with the coaching by Scorpions' line coaches and main coach Brett Lovett.

Fitzpatrick. What a great game. His ruckwork was really good as was his run around the ground. Has serious pace and his skills looked sharper (at last).

Green. Wow. Marking and kicking was highest class. The Casey boys' nickname for him is "fossil" that was pretty funny.

Davey. Boy, did he show his class and pace at times. Not a 10/10 game but showed genuine courage on a few occasions.

Morton. Did some good things but should not have been listed in the best.

Couch. It is time for him to move up. A great game of team football that demonstrates skill, endeavour and footy smarts. He was also one of the few Casey players able to match the Port boys for body size and strength over the ball.

Cook. I watched him closely today and was super impressed. His leading up through the 50 metre arc and then turning to deliver inside 50 was excellent. Also, if one lead was ignored he was leading 2 or 3 times. And importantly he led into the right spaces at the right time. And his defensive running to cover for team mates out of position was good. No goals but a seriously good team game. He took 6 lead up marks through half forward and each time delivered well.

Jetta. Looked like he is still a few runs short of AFL fitness but he looked good when he had the ball.

Williams. At times looked exciting but it seemed Port were very consious of him and were paying him special attention.

Strauss. To be fair, both teams had a bit of difficulty holding the ball inside 50 so neither defences could rack up possessions. He was just OK today.

Gysberts. He is so unassuming that it is difficult to see him getting possessions but the run-and-carry players were constantly thanking him nad patting him on the back so he was obviously doing some good work in and under. He releases the ball from a stoppage really well and considering how bad the Dees are 2nd movement away from a stoppage he is must for next week.

Gysberts, Davey, Green, Couch and Cook did enough to be considered for next week. Fitzpatrick also but I reckon that Spencer has his foot in the door at the moment.

You should have heard the crowd once the siren went. It was fantastic to see how much they valued beating Port. By the way, if you reckon Richmond and Saints supporters are feral, go to the next Casey v Port game and watch the Port crowd. Most had more eyes than teeth and the collective IQ of a sandwich. Wild but very entertaining.

Anyone at the game... wat do you rekon about picking up galea as a rookie or a low pick? seems to be able to kick multiple goals quite regularly?

I'm not too sure how old he is but he a great contested mark. He is one of those one-grab clunk players who rarely juggles a mark. If he is 26 or under I would consider him. My only question would be "why hasn't he been drafted before?"

Yep, I understand perfectly and I still reserve my right to spew or not spew according to my demeanour, volition and view!

And yet as we speak Maldon boy has some "enlightening" comments to add re game today. Lets read shall we?

You're ruining the thread. I can only assume you're an 'ologist ?

  • REPORT: Carlton

I am now certain that the decline in fortunes of the Melbourne Football Club from a premiership power with the potential for more success to come in the future, started when the team ran out for their Round 9 match up against Carlton last year. After knocking over the Cats in a fierce contest the week before, the Demons looked uninterested at the start of play and gave the Blues a six goal start. They recovered to almost snatch victory but lost narrowly with a score of 11.10.76 to 12.5.77. Yesterday, they revisited the scene and provided their fans with a similar display of ineptitude early in the proceedings. Their attitude at the start was poor, given that the game was so winnable. Unsurprisingly, the resulting score was almost identical to that of last year and for the fourth time in succession, the club has lost a game against Carlton despite having more scoring opportunities.

  • CASEY: Carlton

The Casey Demons smashed the Carlton Reserves off the park at Casey Fields on Sunday to retain a hold on an end of season wild card place. It was a comprehensive 108 point victory in which the home side was dominant and several of its players stood out but, in spite of the positivity of such a display, we need to place an asterisk over the outcome which saw a net 100 point advantage to the combined scores in the two contests between Demons and Blues over the weekend.

  • POSTGAME: Carlton

A near full strength Demons were outplayed all night against a Blues outfit that was under the pump and missing at least 9 or 10 of the best players. Time for some hard decisions to be made across the board.
