There is also nothing worse than trying annoy the F%$# out of a player and get no response. Also you the annoyer looks pretty silly if they keep going when the "victim" just ignores it and goes and gets the footy.

Totally agree. Watts never reacts and, now, he is starting to just spank the idiot who is niggling him instead. It's fantastic and it would give that guy the abolsute s%^ts.

It seems like every week some clown half Watts size is in his face for a push and shove before the bounce.

The sooner he ragdolls 1 of 'em and shows they're out've their weight class the better IMO.

It'll happen eventually but as with everything Watts , all in good time .

Then it won't happen so often.

Yeah, because that always worked well when Davey would do this...

They will stop doing as they realise it doesn't faze him, not if they can get under his skin and him to react. They want a reaction.

Got this in an email from an 'Ologist this morning:

I went to an after match last night as a representative of the QLd Demons. Towards the end of the night I approached Nathan Jones.I asked him why he was so incensed when Grimes was bowled over.

He looked at me right in the eyes and I thought oh fark I’ve upset him.

He said, "It was late and he is my captain. The flag had to be flown."

I told him its been a long time since I have been prouder of a Melbourne player.

He said thanks and shook my hand.

I would've hugged him.

Geez , didn't realise Davey was 6'5".

Looks alot smaller on the ground.

Seeing as you mentioned Davey , I'd like to see Watts ( or any-one actually) ragdoll the bloke giving Davey a hard time.

I'd be willing to give up a free for that too.

Lets the tagger (and Davey) know his teammates have his back.

It was no coincedence that Davey walked taller when roaming the forward line alongside Nietz.

I personally loved seeing Jones running in to fly the flag for one of our captains!

We need more of this....alternatively, i'd like to have seen Watts at least try and rough up/jumper punch Nathan Wilson (i think it was him) I remember him having tatts.

It was near the start of the match and Wilson was getting into Watts, bumping him and what not. Watts just stood there and took it. Wilson according to his Profile is 185cm and 74kg. I know this type of attention doesn't seem to affect Watts, he just goes about the game...just would have been nice to see Watts put someone back in their box...considering it was only Wilson's 4th game...

I agree. I have posted many times my very positive views about Jack Watts. I love watching him and I love his class. However, he needs to get more aggressive. Especially in his tackling - it's not as if he's a midget. Interestingly, a friend told me that Jack was an agressive basketballer.

If Watts bites back at one of those peanuts do you honestly think that would stop it happening next week. Would just give them more reason to do it if they thought they were getting to him and could possibly get a cheap free.

Who thinks the little bloke or any of his mates will try this again ?

I really don't see what Lance Whitnall has to do with any of this.

Agreed...would everyone be feeling the same if we were in a final or GF and steven Milne started to rough Watts up and he just stood there and took it?

I'm not asking him to fight all the time like Moloney or change the way he plays the game...just stick up for himself.

Watts is totally different to Davey...if we were talking about someone the same size...maybe someone like Bennell well yes, that may be relevant.

So you feel comfortable with a 4th gamer who is half the size of Watts to get stuck into him.....but on the other hand...were probably loosing it over Tapscotts late hit on Fasolo???

I love the way Watts uses the pill and how smooth he is. He'll be a great player, and i have been loving his last month or so since switching to the backline.

He's no Hurley, never will be, don't expect him to be...but needs to show some toughness. At the monent i'd back Robyn Nahas to touch him up.

Absolutely disgraceful today the way we just copped it from Brisbane. Watts gets smashed into all day and just cops it, grinning. Bate gets bumped into on the boundary by Hanley and just cops it. Nicholson gets run down by Ricoh and has his head rubbed into the ground - just cops it.

The only unsociable player on our list is Tapscott. Show some pride MFC. Pathetic.

The worst part of that was that the replay showed he got the kick away and was therefore wrongly penalised.

we are not a serious contender yet, and until we are we will have to put up with front-running umpires.

It must require incredible strength of mind for an umpire to avoid anticipating the play flowing one way rather than the other, and real independence for him to see the line balls without prejudice, so that - when the split-second evidence is against all expectation and noise of the crowd - he will nevertheless instantly rule in favour of the surprise. I think front-running - think how Judd, Ablett, Lloyd, etc etc are umpired, as compared with the treatment given to a raw and tentative beginner - is understandable, and inevitable.

In the end, not many games are decided by the 5% of advantage given by the umpires.

Ummm, Lions got the loose ball and advantage was paid - no real penalty IMO

What gripes me is the umpires' tolerance of staging and engineered "holding-the-ball" infringements. Outright dishonest, and should be stamped out. Lazy bullies go for that stuff, and the umpires are in general complicit.

I agree with much of what you say.

Case in point:

If Simon Black wasn't such a respected player I'm sure he would be cited for staging in todays game.

Then it should have been a free to Melbourne for being ridden into the ground after disposing of the footy.

I woud imagine Daniel Rich's elbow in the back of your head would be considered high contact.
