The word from the Sandringham camp is that their match verses Casey, which was scheduled for 2pm Sunday 24 June, has been moved to Saturday 23 June at 1pm.

It has been moved forward so the match can be televised on ABC1. The venue remains the same - the Trevor Barker oval.

This change also removes a fixture clash with the Demons match against GWS that is set down for Sunday 24 June from 3.15pm at the MCG.

Looks like we might get two televised MFC matches on the same weekend.

This is confirmed on the Casey's fixture on their website. The original fixture had the Casey match on the Sunday.

The following Casey fixtures apply over the coming fortnight:-

Saturday 16 June 2012 - Development League v Box Hill at Box Hill City Oval - 11:00am

According to this article - VFL beckons this weekend for some Dees we should see a few Demons in action. Luke Hodge is apparently an outside chance to line up with Box Hill.

Saturday 23 June 2012 - Seniors v Sandringham at TBBO - 1:00pm

Development League v Sandringham at TBBO - 10:10am

In other news co-captain Kyle Matthews who injured his shoulder in round 1 is due back in about 4 weeks. We wish the poor bloke lots of (good) luck from hereon in because he sure has had a wretched run with injuries over the past 2½ years.

Great news.

Now I can waste 2 afternoons instead of one.

Look forward to the stretcher coming out on Sunday afternoon.

As early as possible.

In the early game at Box Hill on Saturday, four Demons will take the field for the Casey DL (ex-ressies) team. These blokes are eligible to play because they're all on the road to recovery from injury.

so casey 1s have another bye?? for [censored] sake this would have to be the worst fixture in the country!

would love if it went back to the old reserves teams again!

Is it three byes in 4 (or 5) weeks. Does bugger all for the development of any younger players, nor for those returning from injury.

Epic FAIL, VFL.

Good to see young Williams getting a run after his near-death experience. Well done.

A good run from Martin should see him up for the GWS game I think. In another thread I have said it would be good to see Cook in the ones but the bye is not helping his chances.

If the VFL is to take the place of a reserves comp then there should be no weekend off for rep duties (one less bye). Do it like the NRL and play through, too bad if you have players out, suck it up like Storm have to or can it.

AMEN! The VFL is a joke! They have more byes than games!

there is still another bye to come!

I read somewhere a few weeks back that some clubs have organised 'scratch matches' for players needing a run - why haven't we been able to do this?

Coz you need to get permission, and Vlad gets very miffed if he finds out and we haven't, remember that scratch between Collingwood and us early in pre season, had to get permission for that.....opens a can of worms

they even had to get permission to play those 4 this weekend, only reason they are in is they are on way back from injury

The least we could do is ask - that wouldn't hurt. It might also ensure the VFL gets its act together to fix this farcical situation.

You also have the players as well, they are entitled to leave and days off like everybody else, would assume the four players have agree to forgo their entitlement to the time off, all the other players have disappeared far and wide for a few days

Three Quarter Time in the AFL Development Game - After leading by 4 points at half time, the Scorps are in a spot of bother. Box Hill Hawks 13.13.91 to Casey Scorpions 6.11.47.

Looking a bit grim KC.

I'm off to see the local Beechworth boys.

Very much a development exercise but I am continuing my character building

Unfortunately, this team selection only highlights the awfulness of our current midfield stocks. Hard to make changes when there's no-one to come in.

Very true.

The only hope is that next year and beyond we can add: Viney, Gysberts, Pick 4 PP and pick 12 PP to the rotation.

4 added pure midfielders could make a huge difference

Why can't we try Bennell as a spread mid who can be given the ball and take off. He can do that from wing or in the middle. We need to inject clearance pace to improve our forward entries.

Because he only gets the ball 3 or 4 times a game

  • REPORT: Collingwood

The media focus on the fiery interaction between Max Gawn and Steven May at the end of the game was unfortunate because it took away the gloss from Melbourne’s performance in winning almost everywhere but on the scoreboard in its Kings Birthday clash with Collingwood at the MCG. It was a real battle reminiscent of the good old days when the rivalry between the two clubs was at its height and a fitting contest to celebrate the 2025 Australian of the Year, Neale Daniher and his superb work to bring the campaign to raise funds for motor neurone disease awareness to the forefront. Notwithstanding the fact that the Magpies snatched a one point victory from his old club, Daniher would be proud of the fact that his Demons fought tooth and nail to win the keenly contested game in front of 77,761 fans.

  • PREGAME: Port Adelaide

  • POSTGAME: Collingwood

Despite effectively playing against four extra opponents, the Dees controlled much of the match. However, their inaccuracy in front of goal and inability to convert dominance in clearances and inside 50s ultimately cost them dearly, falling to a heartbreaking one-point loss on King’s Birthday.
