THE CONTRACTS THREAD [with updates]

Not to be pedantic rpfc but Blease is signed to 2014 not 2015.

I think that last graphic was rpfc's 'wishlist', wasn't it? Or am I missing something.

The one above that (which wasn't updated for Blease yet) is the current picture.

Yeah, it was what I would do.

And I only update the first post of this thread. That has the current Contracts picture as it stands now.

great work Sammy Blease!

The only players we need to pay decent wage to is Grimes and Sylvia.

Everyone else would be your basic average AFL wage

Have a play around with it - but I am just going to use the OP as a definitive - 'this is the state of our list right now' piece.

**On assumption Hogan is not one of the 40 for 2013.

Updated and altered to reflect the state of the list rather than simply 'who is OOC.'

Next year 2013 with be very interesting. If Davey, Morton and Gysberts are still on the list they are the only ones that would be a chance of being delisted. Watts, Sylvia, Gawn, Taggert, Tynan, Fitzpatrick and Grimes are unlikely to delisted. I believe Sylvia will a restricted FA but from all reports he is not likely to leave the MFC.

Should Morton or Gysberts be traded this year as expected there are few options available to the Club to delist a minimum of 3 players as required by the AFL. Players like Sellar, Bartram and Strauss could agree to one year only contracts, The first two might but I doubt Strauss would.

List management next year could be very interesting.

Interestingly, when Hardwick culled the tigers at the end of '09 he made 12 changes all up. http://news.theage.c...91030-hoxy.html

They shed more than 1100 games' experience.

We have 1 list vacancy as it stands now. Hogan will not be apart of the 40 for 2013. Choose your deletions/re-signings but remember that we may pick up a couple senior bodies before the draft, may upgrade Nicholson, and may get a comp pick.

IN: ND4, ND21, ND48, ND49 (comp pick), ND70, PSD3, Player Traded In (may take ND pick), Delisted FA

That's another 7 spots to open up. Martin, Gysberts, and Morton may be traded but they all are contracted for 2013.

OOC

Batram, Bennell, Petterd, Strauss, Cook, MacDonald, Jetta, Davis, Spencer, Bail, Sellar

UFA

Rivers, Bate, and Dunn.

They are those that I think will go but not my preference - I would prefer to let Dunn go and keep Davis.

  • Author

I think that we may only take Pick 4, Viney and Pick 48ish from the draft in terms of kids (or anyone if we use Delisted FA more than pick up state league players).

With one vacancy on the list at the minute we would have a preference similar to this in terms of who we would want to keep compared to who we would want to bring in.

OUT

1. Bennell

2. Petterd

3. Cook

4. MacDonald

5. Bate

6. Martin (likely to be traded)

7. Rivers (likely to go through FA)

8. Sellar

9. Dunn

10. Batram (possible rookie-ing?)

11. Gysberts (possible trade)

12. Spencer

13. Strauss

14. Bail

IN (Viney, Byrnes, and Barry already counted, Hogan doesn't go on list yet)

1. Pick 4

2. Pick 48ish

3. Dawes

4. Pedersen

5. Ray

6. PSD3

7. Nicholson

8. Pick 68ish

9. Banner

10. Rodan

You can put those 'outs' in any order you wish and when you get to the point that whatever we get in will be just as speculative as what we get in - you stop cutting people.

I would probably stop around 7 more deletions from here (remember that Green, Moloney, Jurrah, and the vacancy from the abolishment of the VL are already counted). That would mean 10 names gone and 11 new players on the primary list with Hogan waiting in the wings.

Just to clarify Evans and Nicholson had Iron Clad contracts committing to being upgraded signed prior to Neelds arrival this happen this year. Therefore regardless they both will be elevated to the senior list. So you need to factor in 2 rookie upgrades to the senior list. I also think this is one factor why we were happy to take Hogan as we could keep one spot on the list open for one of our current players for one more year while still adding a player to commence with us the year after.

I have spoken to Neeld personally about this and his view was Hardwick saw Clarkson go through 'hell' by not culling when he first got to Hawthorn and therefore decided to go hard first year. Neeld said he could have done this first year but wanted to give players an opportunity. I think halfway through last year he was regretting that decision as he was let down badly by certain players and their level of commitment and ability.

Bringing in a bunch of poo to replace poo.

Pick 4 is poo? You already know who it is and you have seen them play in red and blue on the G?

I'm looking forward to round one. But I'll need to spend a bit of time learning the new numbers before I go to the game. Otherwise I'll have to ask 'who's that?' for every second kick.

Further to that Jack Viney is Poo is he? Clarke was certainly poo last year so we can assume Dawes will be too right?

Great logic...What is amazing is how quickly some people turn these threads to poo..

Bringing in a bunch of poo to replace poo.

Pick 4, Dawes, Pedersen, Nicholson and Ray would be an improvement on those that leave the primary list.

I don't agree with your sentiment at all.

  • PREVIEW: North Melbourne

Can you believe it? After a long period of years over which Melbourne has dominated in matches against North Melbourne, the Demons are looking down the barrel at two defeats at the hands of the Kangaroos in the same season. And if that eventuates, it will come hot on the heels of an identical result against the Gold Coast Suns. How have the might fallen? There is a slight difference in that North Melbourne are not yet in the same place as Gold Coast. Like Melbourne, they are currently situated in the lower half of the ladder and though they did achieve a significant upset when the teams met earlier in the season, their subsequent form has been equally unimpressive and inconsistent.

  • REPORT: Adelaide

The atmosphere at the Melbourne Football Club at the beginning of the season was aspirational following an injury-plagued year in 2024. Coach Simon Goodwin had lofty expectations with the return of key players, the anticipated improvement from a maturing group with a few years of experience under their belts, and some exceptional young talent also joining the ranks. All of that went by the wayside as the team failed to click into action early on. It rallied briefly with a new strategy but has fallen again with five more  consecutive defeats.

  • CASEY: Coburg

The Casey Demons returned to their home ground which was once a graveyard for opposing teams but they managed to gift the four points on offer to Coburg with yet another of their trademark displays of inaccuracy in front of goals and some undisciplined football that earned the displeasure of the umpires late in the game. The home team was welcomed by a small crowd at Casey Fields and looked right at home as it dominated the first three quarters and led for all bar the last five minutes of the game. In the end, they came away with nothing, despite winning everywhere but on the scoreboard and the free kick count.

  • POSTGAME: Rd 17 vs Adelaide

The Demons were wasteful early before putting the foot down early in the 2nd quarter but they chased tail for the remainder of the match. They could not get their first use of the footy after half time and when they did poor skills, execution and decision making let them down.
