Is it time to tank?

I have no doubt that both Hawthorn and West Coast tanked and reaped the reward but they did it once, concealed it well, and were never obvious about it. Carlton threw games they were well in front in and the Kreuzer cup was shameful; Melbourne played players so far out of their position it was just ridiculous and some games we lost were downright embarrassing.

Both Carlton and Melbourne tanked over a sustained period of time and did nothing to conceal it, the only thing we didn't do was put an ad in the paper. God only knows what it did to our playing list and who knows what effect it had on any kids we drafted; we cheated and it will take a long time to get over it.

For the record I didn't complain when we did it, but on reflection I should have, we all should have, the end result was we are no better off on field and a lot worse off field.

I well remember the Richmond game and believe it or not I was livid when we lost that game.

I hated it at the time and I still do.

The really sad part is that we have gained nothing from tanking except perhaps the pity of other fans.

If their is any justice in the world we have reaped some of it for our efforts

I know a majority of you will say this is nonsense and we need to try our best to win games for team morale, etc.

But let's face the facts:

Our list simply isn't good enough at the moment, we have too many battlers and/or players who are unwilling to give it their all for whatever reason.

Whatever your opinion, if we have to take Jack Viney with a top 3 pick this year, it would be a disaster, no matter what his worth. We need to inject as much young talent this year and by tanking it means we will have at least picks 1 & 2 and will be able to pick up Viney in the second round. This means that we would be acquiring at least 3 players that will walk into our starting line up next year, without even considering what we might do with free agency.

I know this will sound a bit extreme, but to be honest, we can't get any worse at the moment and drastic, unprecedented changes need to occur at seasons end.

I suggest trading/getting rid of Moloney (clearly doesn't care anymore and from an outsiders perspective, is not a good role model for our young players), Sylvia (sure - he COULD be a great player, but his attitude stinks and is something we cannot afford to have around the club if we are going to rebuild into a super team) and then of course the usual suspects such as Dunn, Bate to ensure the list is completely cleaned out.

Since 2006 we have gone half hearted in rebuilding, but now is the time to make a stand and clean out all the junk. No compromising, no risks, just do it!

how can we be tanking when we are not capable of beating anybody, we will get done by GWS and Suns and we won't be trying to lose. We will not win a game this year, l've been a supporter all my life and member for 20 and this is easily the worst team we have ever had.

and don't forget Eddiewood after their losses to Brisbane....again they did it just long enough, but avoided the "dole" handout mentality that now haunts us, as it does sadly to so many in our community.
