Did anyone just see the legendary jimmy keays sing the legendary 'Do what you want to do' from Master's Apprentices wearing the Red and Blue scarf on Marngrook just now? He has supported the Dees since 1967. He followed the Red n blue Norwood team in S.A.

Where do you think Dean Bailey got his strategy on defensive play from?

Jim Keays album "Boy from the Stars" is an absolute classic

One of my Desert Island Discs.

If you have not heard it, look it up on Amazon.com

Pure Talent & great bloke.

Call me a pedant, but the song is actually called "It's because i love you" - a quick searchon YouTube will find several clips of him performing live with Russell Morris and Daryl Cotton, but no Marngrook clip up yet.

Hard to disagree... add The Loved Ones, Wild Cherries, Purple Hearts, MPD, Mike Furber and the Bowery Boys, Little Gulliver, The Groove (best Sam & Dave covers ever) etc to that list.

Yep, they're was a heap of them i liked, but, i was a radio music lover, so didn't know many groups names just the occasional song. i heard my older sisters stuff on Radio 3AK/3XY, & my dads stuff on 3UZ/3DB etc.

I first saw the apprentices at the Biting Eye in Lt Bourke St in the mid sixties and even though they weren't bad and were very original the Twilights killed every one else on stage. When they were on at Opus on Sunday nights all the other bands on the bill that night would come out and watch, they were that good.

I was lucky with an older sister, in some ways.

I got to hear some good tunes from her 60's,,, & from my dads genres as well, Satchmo & big bands & just Pop, My name is Sue, how do you Do, now you Gonna Dye!!!

In the year 2929, or, "Puff the magic Dragon". Just a great Era for Music,,, of all creative tastes.

Yes, I Utubed Jimmy after watching MGrook and couldn't decide on the title, too hazed out to review your suggestion but I dip my lid to you. I was there in the 60's that's why i can't remember it. Really impressed with how lucid and together jimmy was post-performance, and how at-one he was with the Demons. He should be pushed up to the stratosphere;

1. For being an A-Grade legend of the 60's;

2. For wearing his heart on his sleeve for our colours.

I am sure if you rang the channel they would help you out with a clip or a link to their show.

In the year 2929

Actually, it was "In the year 2525" by Zagar & Evans...I remember it clearly because the first time I heard it was on 3UZ and the DJ (Ken Sparkes I think it was) said "I wonder if that is a prediction for our future" and immediately his comment finished, the house started to shake... we had an earth tremor.

Yep your right, it was to.

I used to know it word for word. and "In the Ghetto".

Forget the title numbers & they're not too far off beam.

Watched this as well, great to see,

its also good to know I am not alone in being able to remember

the songs and the wonderfull Melbourne side of the late 60s early 70s.

Gosh we were a good side....not.

Go Dees give 'em HELL !!!

I did! Was great. Strange still get enjoyment from watching the Dees get flogged every week as am sure he does. F>>>> Melbourne have come down with a THUD this year. Really crap coach.

Last weeks episode not there yet but watch that space.

Neeld sings this to players at training: "What we're trying to get through ... it's a brave new world, we can all be cool."

Craig: "Wars or hands of time will not destroy our dreams of days that are to come"

Dunno what Davey & Sylvia are singing .... "a land of fairy tales and good things are all a child dreams all day ..."

Fantastic. Jim Keays has been a Demon supporter almost as long as me!

  • REPORT: Carlton

    I am now certain that the decline in fortunes of the Melbourne Football Club from a premiership power with the potential for more success to come in the future, started when the team ran out for their Round 9 match up against Carlton last year. After knocking over the Cats in a fierce contest the week before, the Demons looked uninterested at the start of play and gave the Blues a six goal start. They recovered to almost snatch victory but lost narrowly with a score of 11.10.76 to 12.5.77. Yesterday, they revisited the scene and provided their fans with a similar display of ineptitude early in the proceedings. Their attitude at the start was poor, given that the game was so winnable. Unsurprisingly, the resulting score was almost identical to that of last year and for the fourth time in succession, the club has lost a game against Carlton despite having more scoring opportunities.

  • CASEY: Carlton

    The Casey Demons smashed the Carlton Reserves off the park at Casey Fields on Sunday to retain a hold on an end of season wild card place. It was a comprehensive 108 point victory in which the home side was dominant and several of its players stood out but, in spite of the positivity of such a display, we need to place an asterisk over the outcome which saw a net 100 point advantage to the combined scores in the two contests between Demons and Blues over the weekend.

  • POSTGAME: Carlton

    A near full strength Demons were outplayed all night against a Blues outfit that was under the pump and missing at least 9 or 10 of the best players. Time for some hard decisions to be made across the board.
