This is scary. I remember Kelly very well as a Melbourne Player. My experience watching football over the years is tough players turn into tough and successful coaches while receivers and soft/skilled players turn into coaching duds.

Mathews, Sheedy, Parkin, Nicholls, Ridley, Barassi and recently Hardwick, Scott Brothers, Worsfold, Thompson, Hird, Ratten, Clarkson.. I think you get the idea.

Kelly is now seemingly in charge of scouting for this years draft.

I hope he looks for "hard nuts" of the Sylvia mode.

Confession here is though I try to be positive in previous posts I am and so should all of be being bitterly disappointed at the appointment of Neeld. Neeld after all the initial tough talk and talk of Melbourne having the best young list must now apparently endure another year of experimentation with game plans. We should all be up in arms about all this and be openly demanding the entire board step aside!

Melbourne have long recruited dud coaches, recruits and administrators for decades now and with this Kelly appointment it's going to get worse. What an earth are they thinking to appoint such a person to this role?

Sad for Melbourne the Viney, Healey and Lyon club while all passionate Melbourne past Players are all unwilling to take the job. Alarm bells rang loud and clear when Viney replaced Bailey for the last few games "because no one else would do it". I'll see if I'm interested at the close of the season type of attitude. Viney should never have been given that role unless he was a firm candidate for 2012 and fully committed to apply . He was only a 50/50 to apply at best. Gary Lyon is all talk and Stan Alves is probably just a bit past it. Would rather have had Alves, Sheedy, Malthouse or even Rodney Eade! How did we let Ratten go so easily!!

Neeld swiftly appointed Grimes/Trengove as Captains. No Rudder, no leadership. Does Neeld really think guys like Jamar, Sylvia, Moloney, Frawley, Jurrah and Mitch Clark etc are going take any notice of these kids?

Oh no, Neeld is having a say in our recruiting...

"''Mark's really clear on the way he wants the game played, and the attributes that players are going to need to play certain roles,'' Viney said."

One thing is for sure, I'm glad Kelly is involved and not Emma Quayle like what some called for earlier this year.

sad our only two choices are emma or kelly? On a serious side Viney like Lyon is all talk. A little like Peter Costello was chicken to take over the Liberals Viney was also afraid or perhaps deep down realised the list is not what it was built up to be. (same as the libs list lol)....

You're confused.

Kelly O'Donnell is a Pro-Scout. He looks at the VFL and other state leagues and players of other AFL clubs.

We have Gary Burleigh and Tim Lamb (recent appointee from Vic Metro) - http://www.melbournefc.com.au/tabid/7415/default.aspx?newsid=132818 - reporting to Viney for this season. With a replacement for Prendergast to made at the end of the season.

Can't help you with the Neeld Doomsday chatter.

We have made our decision and things are not going well at the moment.

I think it will turn around. Don't think we need to spill the board because players aren't working hard to spread and get some uncontested footy...

You are so far off the mark I'm not prepared to give any further comment.

I take it because you are so shattered by all of the above you are not goimg to games anymore or watching on the telly....but you can come on here and comment...have you made a complaint to the Club..I speak to them all the time and they listen, Cam Schwab reads this board as well.......I am disappointed by our start but have total faith in the club....try speaking to Kelly O, he has probably forgotten more about football than the rest of us will ever know........ I bought a metal detector from Danos direct and as yet have found no gold. I did ask for the Danos direct board to stand down but my request has fallen on deaf ears.

Jack Trengove should never have been appointed Capt of MFC plain and simple. Now we have to live with it.

Plain and simple is about the extent of your opinion I would say. Trengove has got the potential to fill the massive void of leadership at the club.

The coach tends to agree.

Judging by the way they have contributed this season, Moloney, Jamar, Sylvia and Jurrah could all take a leaf out of JT's book

Our club has more issues than that...

why does one of our ex club captains, continue to be a long term scout/recruiter for Hawthorn and not for us.

Now that we have secured our jumper sponsors this is the biggest issue off field at the moment. This is yet another draft where we will have prime position and we cannot afford to screw it up this time. Is Todd Viney really the best person for the job? As far as I can tell he is just a fill in between Prendergast and when we get our next guy (the Collingwood recruiting manager?) - we need to make sure we have the best guys in place in our recruiting area so that we don't stuff up again on draft day and can secure a couple of hard, gun midfielders. We can't afford another draft we recruit "project" players (i.e. players with "potential") we need ready made kids who can step in and go from round 1 2013.

I've been thinking something similar for a while, given this will again be a "draft year", we must make sure we get this one right. J Viney sounds like hell be a handy pick up, but those two other first round picks can't be wasted. It sounds like we don't have a full time recruiting officer but we are trying to surround Todd with people that'll make his job easier.

No idea who you are talking about Friday???

I have thought all the way back to Barassi and none of our ex captains are involved at Hawthorn.

From what I can find he was the recruiter back in the days of Crawford being drafted. But he has no acknowledgement now on their website in recruiting staff for this season.
