All this midfield stuff is nonesense, proved last weekend by GAbletts 53 touches, how many were actually effective, even Mr Judd is proving mortal now he hasn't got a supporting cast around him to make him look good.

A good midfielder needs to get clearances, have a lot of forward 50 entries, goal assists, work both ways, and if possible kick a few goals......last year Beamer was doing that for us, hence the 19 or so Brownlow votes, this year he has had a niggly injury and a drop of form.

Swan and Pendlebury do this week in week out for the Pies that is why everybody thinks they are guns, but they also have the luxury of Blair, Wellingham, Sidebottom, Ball, Beames, Didak, Thomas and a few others rotating through to help them out

Same with the gun midfield of Richmond now, there are at least six or seven

We actually beat Essendon coz Jordy Mac shut down Stanton and Watson couldn't do everything, and his backup cast failed to turn up

We are still developing our midfield, Magner has played 10 games, Morton is rotating through there, Grimes has now got his body right to move into there, Jones is playing his guts out every week....we have had quite a few injurites so players have been in and out, Bail last week

So Mr Neeld and Mr Moloney sat down had a chat and thought we will play Beamer forward of the ball against Essendon and see if we can get him up and running a bit more, "I was stagnating" quoteth the man in his interview.

It worked, he looked a completely different player again from previous weeks, try it again this week....

The main difference with Cloke and Beamer is that Cloke is a top player who commands a massive salary whether he stays at the Pies or moves on. Whereas Beamer, while yes he had a very good year (by our standards) in 2011 this year he has been mostly poor. Therefor market (and media) interest around him is a lot less. There's also the fact that Cloke is a Pie, so naturally will get more coverage.

I'm a fan of Brents, have been since he arrived at the club. Despite his poor start to the year I've felt that he has too much hunger and ability in him to maintain his average form. I really hope the Bombers game is the start of his resurgence.

I took exception to what you wrote because I've been both a vocal critic of Moloney and a huge supporter of Jones. Time will tell if I was wrong about Moloney, and I think it already has told with Jones.

How do we know what 'Moloney' said, it was his manager who spoke

Saw Jack Riewoldt? interviewed and he stated he bled yellow and black which was a far more frightening circumstance to a chap who was once married to a haematologist.

It was probably before your time, but at one stage on the forums (during the Swans success), it was in vogue for every player to be a "Ryan O'Keefe type player" on this forum. It actually got embarrassing after a while.

At the time, the game was much more open. Having hard running players that were could mark well in open space were gold.

The game changed with the cluster and then the press. There were more people around and you needed big players to contest it. It went from the multi-purpose players (Ryan O'Keefe) to those with specific roles. Everyone from monster talls like Cloke, to ultra smalls like Blair.

It's amazing how the game can change so quickly.

I mentioned this last week but for those that didn't see it, I was at a restaurant in Prahran with my boys having dinner when James Magner walked in followed by Trenners Tappy Grimes Jones Bail Howe Bate Spencer and a couple of others I can't remember then just before we left Beamer walked in. We asked the manager what was going on and he said Beamer rang him earlier that day and asked if they could use the upstairs function room for 14 of the players.

I was thinking that maybe there was some sort of midfield team meeting, bonding, patching up going on.

Would the market for Brent be that big? If he is 100% committed to the club lets sign him and I am sure it will be for the right price.

Certianly on field last week the team look as unified as I have seen it this week. Maybe the senior players who were revmoved from the leadership group have found their new roles (which are still critical) and if so, lets hope all parties continue to work together. That alone makes us a much better side.
