When would be the best time to name a new coach?

1. When there is no fottball in Melbourne, freeing the media in town for a presser

2. After the analusis of last nights game by SEN - say middday

3. Before tonights game.

4. When there will be a shortahge of football news from the day and it ensures a good evening run and a good run in the Sunday papers

5. When it doesn't get lost mid-week with finals news.

Hang on - that's today at Midday.

This planning is why I am confident we are in good hands.

Just heard Huddo on SEN say it was strange timing - I immediately thought "it's bloody brilliant timing!"

It's the weekend during finals - everyone is paying attention to footy and there has only been one game, a poor one at that, to analyse.

I originally thought they should wait till the dust settled on RL's departure but i think you're right.

Gives us better post presser exposure from more senior/respected critics as well with possibly a larger audience

Why does Mark Neeld - with a reputation as a very good tactician and game plan developer needs Neil Craig ?

This is not James Hird (with no previous experience). Sure he needs good support - perhaps including a strong/seasoned mentor - but he is his own man. Daddy or silly old Uncle(or big brother as with the Bombers) as "senior assistant" could be more trouble than it's worth.

The appointment of Neil Craig has not been announced (if indeed there is one).

If he is appointed, it may well be more as Football Manager (Balme, Daniher et al) in a shake up/change of the footy dept at the MFC (which is also part of GLyon's brief).

Someone from outside the MFC could be a good get, and Balme & Daniher have reportedly been very good at the cats and eagels respectively.

Agree with having a Balme Daniher role.They both have vast experience with other clubs, which they put to good use in their present roles. But Craig is "Adelaide"...and "Adelaide Crows", to me.If we are to appoint a Football Manager, it might be better to find someone with wider experience with more clubs.

But, hey, with the appointment of Neeld and the way it has been handled (along with what looks to be a good result from the Scully defection), some of my faith has been restored in the club and its ability to follow through on the plan.

With the passing of time, this week's events could be seen as a watershed period, when we started on the road to being the hardest team to play against, with lots more trophies in the cupboard.
