sorry about that, struggling to post from the iphone. Thomo, just remember whos 'charity' it is we are supporting. Lets show a little respect.

Can see why you are worried but really for all the work jim has done and all the great work reach has done this is a great thing for the club to do for helping a great charity like this we will land our big fish soon until then im very proud to see our jumper with a logo that really is special and if anyone wants a jumper they are selling this at the demon shop i love it.

I am very happy that they have chosen to donate the space to Reach for the duration of the NAB Cup campaign and as a bonus, supporters can purchase what is, in effect, a limited edition/collector's item .

No disrespect meant to Reach, but who the charity is is irrelevant in the discussion. Melbourne are giving away the jumper space because they have not secured a sponsor that will pay for it.

Earlier comparisons with FC Barcelona should not be made. FC Barcelona actually sponsor UNICEF by choice, they give UNICEF money and put their logo on their top because they do not need the cash, they are an extremely rich club. Melbourne are a poor club in need of cash who cannot get a sponsor, so they are covering a blank space and putting spin on it. This is a low point for the club.

Does Qantas still fly internationally to/from Melbourne, or only when the Wallabies visit?

No. I think they still have a service to Hong Kong, but that is slated to stop, and I think it is to be taken up by Cathay as code share. There are services ex Sydney.

Consider this:

There are 6 flights a day that come from China to Melbourne. China Southern, China Eastern, Cathay, Air China. Not one is QANTAS.

There are no Qantas services to India, Vietnam or Indonesia ( except through Bali or Sydney)

There are probably 2.5 billion people who live in these countries on our doorstep, and Qantas still insists on flying services to London.

Hardly a low point. It shows respect for a legend of the club and his work with Australian Youth. That, in itself, carries a significant amount of kudos and marketing nous. In any event, it will be an interim measure, until we secure a foj sponsor, which I am more than confident we will.

Qantas are in a lot of trouble & it is sadly their own fault.

The close calls they have had with 747's & the A380 in the last 3 years are not acceptable. The clean flying record is under threat & it would go very close to finishing them IMO if it happens

You know this for a fact?

I would have thought that the fact that Energy Watch is on the BOJ with a very large sponsorship coupled with the fact that the Reach Foundation logo on the FOJ is a temporary placement for the NAB Cup, might be an indication that a major FOJ sponsor has been in the works for a while and that an announcement is imminent. There is still a little over a month until the season proper gets underway, so it is hardly time for hitting the panic button.

Seems some arenot too big on clarity.

The Reach promotion is a wonderful idea. Doesnt do any harm to our cause. Its only the NAB cup.

As noted there is still over a month before competition proper.

Last time i looked outside the sky was still there....not falling !!

We are in discussion with the major sponsor it will happen by rd 1, to suggest this is a 'low-point' is an exaggeration of the highest order. We just signed our bigeest sponsorship deal in our history and one of the biggest in the league. Pull your head in.

I think you need to explain that better. How does not having a sponsor give the indication that an announcement is imminent????

Because as previously reported, on a number of occasions, discussions are on-going and a decision is hopefully "imminent". Sorry Thomo, but your converse argument carries far less weight.

Intelligent and respectful move by the Dees here with reach.

I'm starting to think our image has changed significantly off field in the eyes of all opposition supporters and clubs.

What remains is on field now but that will take care of itself. We are in good hands behind the scences with Schwabby and co.

I tried earlier this year to get my company on board to sponsor the Demons but it wasnt the right time economically.

We are no 1 in the world for wind technology or Wind turbines and are obviously green so I though it would possibly make for a great opportunity to look into it. Green is so big now and the governments love us and the wind industry is something else!

I remember Alinta gas being on Freos jumper, and our turbines are on Alinta wind farm in Geraldton so thought I'd float an idea.

Theres a couple of Mill or so in each turbine alone and there are wind farms with up to 140 turbines or more sometimes so theres big $$$.

I tried my best but not to be this time unfortunately.

Go Demons

Love it,

was always going to happen really.

didnt expect Sylvia to be the one promoting it after his off season, but good signs and new beginnings hopefully

Sylvia is the perfect one to promote it. Reach is all about second chances

Quality explanation, well thought out. Doesn't show that you have nothing at all.

As you state, it It has been "previously reported, on a number of occasions, discussions are on-going and a decision is hopefully "imminent"". I have read this for several months now. We are now resorting to putting a charity on the jumper for no financial gain.

My converse arguement is that there is no sponsor on the front of the Jumper, how does this carry less wait?

thomo, the gain here is a little good will. Why are you unable to get on board with this good news story and put your gripes aside for a couple of days. If we don t have a foj sponsor for round 1 i will be the first to have your back, but it seems you are getting yourself a little worked up over not much at the moment.

You're not bearing up under the 'wait' are you Thomo. Calm down, you won't have to 'wait' much longer

The best outcomes are worth a little extra 'wait'

In 4 weeks if we have no FOJS (excl any fire-sale ones) then you can go to town on your soap-box

Just a bit short or narrow sighted ??? We will in all likelyhood have a major sponsor ( co- ) on boaord by the start of season proper. We already have more sponsorship than ever before. We are taking the opportunity of having a bare patch on the during this interim to do some good. Its not about the money but of the ability to give back.

How is promoting Reach 'resorting' to anything. Lets look beyond the field occasionally.

Our first game for Premiership points in on March 31..... Still 5 weeks away!!

As Cameron Schwab has said they are well down the road with negotiations and just have to be patient.

Im sure, actually very positive that we will have a sponsor come round 1.

Some posters need to settle down.....its only Feb 24!!!!!!!!!

Often the best explanations are brief... it was concise and to the point as judging by your response, you obviously had not read my comments properly.

While it's possible we could try, over time, to change the colour of their logo to suit the MFC, I just can't see them agreeing to replacing the red with pink...

A very Smart Logo, Better than that Mission rubbish!!

Thomo, you are a great fisherman, every comment you throw out lands a number of bites. A new sponser will be announce soon, who it will be only a few know but it will be the best deal the club can get. It may be another great result or in some peoples opinion it may not be enough, just relax it will happen. As a supporter I'm more eager to see how our team performs tomorrow night, the off field stuff will take care of itself, I want to see onfield improvement, I'm sick of going to the footy and not knowing what we will deliver and being out of the game at quarter/half time.

You can point the finger at Schwab and the off the field all you like, in 2011 we were the most underperforming team in the AFL and no matter what spin you try to put on it this severely effects the off field team ability to acheive their targets.

THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
