iv'a worn smith 1,979 Posted October 30, 2011 Posted October 30, 2011 With all due respect, having said that let me say this. The real issues can be put to bed in one foul swoop. No need to cast nasturtiums, but even though we have a long road to hoe in 2012, with the right incentivisation, I am sure we will get the job done. Of course, when posting on any forum, it should be remembered that people in grass houses shouldn't get stoned and never hatchet your chickens before they are counted. However, when in doubt, you can always goose the cook that laid the golden egg. For all intensive purposes, it would appear that with what the MFC administration have done thus far, it all goes well for 2012.
At Least I Saw a Flag 5,353 Posted October 30, 2011 Posted October 30, 2011 I try and avoid cliches 'like the plague'... Perhaps you should also try "to" avoid such cliches??
Tony Tea 2,816 Posted October 30, 2011 Posted October 30, 2011 On a different tact, all beat, if it all goes well, cliché avoidance should be a basic fundamental. (Malaphorism)
McQueen 17,867 Posted October 31, 2011 Posted October 31, 2011 Perhaps you should also try "to" avoid such cliches?? It's an oldie but a goodie, Bingers. Removed one so you can rest easy..
nutbean 8,838 Posted October 31, 2011 Posted October 31, 2011 ridiculous thread. I am not comng back to this thread until the penny has dropped with you guys
daisycutter 30,006 Posted October 31, 2011 Posted October 31, 2011 ridiculous thread. I am not comng back to this thread until the penny has dropped with you guys I agree, some people just don't see the big picture.

jockreynolds 0 Posted October 31, 2011 Posted October 31, 2011 The one that got me for a while was that a player seems set to 'become the next Leigh Brown'. Having said that - whats footy without a liberal dose of cliche? Even more important to the fabric of our game is the mixed metaphor
iv'a worn smith 1,979 Posted October 31, 2011 Posted October 31, 2011 I think you will find Iv'a was joking. This website may be of use. Thanks TT, Um, yes I was joking. Football can also be full of irony.
rpfc 29,022 Posted October 31, 2011 Posted October 31, 2011 Talls take time. Why does that need to be banned? That should be in a sticky thread banner headline - Landers constantly forget this. 'Fitzpatrick has done nothing, he's a spud' would be a recent example of this. Talls take time.
Yoda 33 Posted October 31, 2011 Posted October 31, 2011 Why does that need to be banned? That should be in a sticky thread banner headline - Landers constantly forget this. 'Fitzpatrick has done nothing, he's a spud' would be a recent example of this. Talls take time. It's less the sentiment than the cliched use of those three words in sequence.
rpfc 29,022 Posted November 1, 2011 Posted November 1, 2011 It's less the sentiment than the cliched use of those three words in sequence. The sentiment isn't cliche, either. It's fact. It's like saying the sun rising in the east is cliche...
Retrospective 104 Posted November 1, 2011 Posted November 1, 2011 Who will do the banning? Will the use of a proscribed cliche lead to Rhino pulling your entire post?... or just deleting the offending part. What will the penalty be for transgression... do we need some MRP type guidelines? "talls take time"........ sentiment OK, wording poor... negligent, low impact 90 points "Patience is a virtue" .......... out of the play, medium impact 150 points 1 week with an early plea. "getting games into the youngsters", "youth policy", "will be top flight".........out of the play, high impact (each of these really [censored] me) no early plea, straight to the tribunal and a minimum of 6 weeks
... 11 Posted November 1, 2011 Author Posted November 1, 2011 The sentiment isn't cliche, either. It's fact. It's like saying the sun rising in the east is cliche... Please be more Pacific about what you're referring to.
Yoda 33 Posted November 1, 2011 Posted November 1, 2011 The sentiment isn't cliche, either. It's fact. It's like saying the sun rising in the east is cliche... Erm ... that's why I said it was less the sentiment. And it's not really comparable to a definitive fact like the sun's rising and setting, because there are occasionally exceptions to the 'talls take time' maxim/cliche.
Chook 15,068 Posted November 1, 2011 Posted November 1, 2011 It's like saying the sun rising in the east is cliche... It's what's called a "truism." Something that is so obvious that it really need not be said. "Talls take time" is not necesseraly so universal as to be a truism, but it is generally well-known enought that it doesn't need mentioning.
Jesse Christ 2,884 Posted November 1, 2011 Posted November 1, 2011 Escape goat. Anyone here ever said escape goat?
Macca 17,127 Posted November 1, 2011 Posted November 1, 2011 Escape goat. Anyone here ever said escape goat? I heard Tony Shaw say "Rumour Mongrels" once .
daisycutter 30,006 Posted November 1, 2011 Posted November 1, 2011 Escape goat. Anyone here ever said escape goat? are you kidding?
Jesse Christ 2,884 Posted November 1, 2011 Posted November 1, 2011 No- haven't you ever heard anyone say "escape goat" before lol!
iv'a worn smith 1,979 Posted November 1, 2011 Posted November 1, 2011 can't beat the Ox's "longtermgevity"
Macca 17,127 Posted November 1, 2011 Posted November 1, 2011 " There's not much in this , just a bit of push and shove , the players have nothing to worry about !"
