IMO MFC believes it is still possible that Scully will sign with us - why include him in the most prominent position in the 100% e-mail otherwise?

Hypothetically old55, if you were a young stallion in Tom's position and despite all the goings on throughout the year, the turbulent performances, the young list, the apparent supposed offers, the love, backing and unconditional support of your teammates, (okay...I'm stretching it in the eyes of a few :P ), the sacking of an apparent close coach...and you had your ear to the ground internally about possible coaches. Do you think the possibility of Mfc obtaining the services of an experienced coach...say....for example...Mick Malthouse ...(just throwing a name up), would excite you in any way ?

Probably because he might be down the track or close to re-signing ?

Ummm - because we think it's possible we'll sign him too?

It would be one factor in the decision but I don't think it could be THE factor. If MM comes on board that wont be known until mid-October - I can't see Tom delaying his decision until then on that one factor. It would be apparent he wasd waiting on the coaching decision and I don't think that's feasible. And heaven help this forum if he does delay until mid-October!

Hypothetically - If I was in charge of marketing, and knew Scully was going but the General public didn't, I would use his image. Seeing that image and the text regarding donating money to keep the young stars indicates that donating will help ensure Scully stays, without actually saying it. Smart move to raise money.

If they were printing next year’s membership tickets with his image on them I would read more into it.

Good points. ^

edit: Although they wouldn't know, because he hasn't apparently decided. Being a Mfc player using his image is completely warranted.

I wouldn't - it would be deliberately misleading members.

I don't know where your business ethics come from but it's a terrible internal message to send that it's fine to mislead members for commercial gain. That's not the way to run a business where I come from.

True. Unless of course he was privvy to what will happen in such a hypothetical case, he could then make the decision earlier.

I'm sure h007 would be pushing til mid Oct to suit his Toiger case.

Devils advocate here:

How so...if one is to tow the line that nothng is made up ( re minds) then all pictured are simply Melbourne players who represent a potential going forward.

Its all a bit grey though in reality...lol

Exactly the same injury as Scully, and exactly the same injury that has caused me 2 years of pain and immobility (though it seems Cooney and Scully have pain relating to the bone itself not the surrounding tendon).

Good luck paying $1mil a seaon for that!

Joke will be on us if we end up paying $600,000 "for that".

I try not to read anything into the promotional stuff.

Members card 2002?

Scott Thompson, Darren Jolly, Brad Miller.

Those three players have played for four clubs other than Melbourne.

They are current contracted players, using their images is fine, regardless of contract talk.

It's e25.

Get it right.

I don't trust the word of Sheedy or Allen.

If you were smart you'd realise the point is that the GWS side contradict themselves.

They're not sure what lie it is they're telling today.

GWS have everything to gain by lying, and Silvagni is part of that.

Delude yourself as you will.

Thanks for clarifying your name. To help with future posts, which alias will you be using next week?

If I was as smart as you I may realise that Sheedy and Allen (the two that you quoted earlier as telling the truth) are very careful with their words, Silvagni is not and probably slipped up.

As you state I am not smart, so can you please explain to me how "GWS has everything to gain by lying" as I can't seems to think of how GWS are gaining by Silvagni saying that they offered him a contact last year? Is it to make Melbourne give him a massive offer putting our salary cap over budget, so that they can then steal their real target of Bate or Warnock from under our noses?

However if Scully lies, he keeps playing in the seniors, and gets the best coaching and medical treatment, which is in both his and GWS's best interests. I believe players in their first contracts also have match payments on top of their base, so he is better off financially. Yes you are right, that makes no senses.

So please explain to me why "GWS have everything to gain by lying", as I'm tired of deluding myself.

There are two realities though....one portrayed...and another behind the scenes. Its the golden nugget of marleting...sell the dream !!

As alluded in my reply to which you adress, yes they are indeed all current Melbourne players.

Except for last year with Ablett ...

I purposefully didnt include Ablett as the Ablett saga paled into insignificance compared to this ( or am I too close to it because he is an MFC player ?)

Yes, it would be major coup if MM agreed to join us before this seasomn plays out and it would be a major risk to tell someone who might be leaving the club. If he did agree before the end of the season that would need to be a super cone-of-silence IMO. That's why I think it would be unlikely - the best we will get is "it's not impossible" from his management and we'll have to decide whether we wait on that basis - I would.

There's a big difference between sell the dream and sell the lie. That's the whole point of my original post - MFC must believe that it is still possible to sign Scully.

I would wait too.

Who will we miss out on, by waiting?

No-one I would be dying to get.

Go after MM and then poach some assistants.

Or if you miss out on MM or AC, go and get a good assistant and then poach some assistants.

Re: cone of silence, he is good at keeping to his word.

It's an interesting scenario because if MM did agree to join us he'd want to retain Scully, on the other hand he'd be paranoid about it leaking. If Scully was told it would have to be with MMs OK obviously - maybe they'd have a meeting - they could borrow Control's Cone of Silence.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the scorching morning heat to bring you the following observations of Wednesday's preseason training session from Gosch's Paddock. HARVEY WALLBANGER'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Absent: Salem, Windsor (word is a foot rash going around), Viney, Bowey and Kentfield Train ons: Roy George, no Culley today. MATCH SIM: Friday 7th February 2025

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator ventured down the freeway to bring you his observations from Friday morning's Match Simulation out at Casey Fields. Demonland Trackwatchers were out in force as the Demons returned to Gosch's Paddock for preseason training on Wednesday morning. GHOSTWRITER'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Kozzie a no show. Tommy Sparrow was here last week in civvies and wearing sunnies. He didn’t train. Today he’s training but he’s wearing goggles so he’s likely got an eye injury. THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
