Viney, 45, has been an assistant coach at Hawthorn, including the premiership year of 2008, and Adelaide since coaching Moama in the Murray Football League for two years.

Lyon - his former teammate, captain and great friend - is his new boss. While the relationship soured some time ago, Viney said there were no lingering issues. "It's just like it was when we see each other now."

Who knows. Not a bad article other than that last jab. Unnecessary and unfortunate finish IMO.

Highlights much of what's been lacking in the last 15 years or so, with a few exceptions like Neitz, at this club.

Pitty Todd doesn't want to continue on. I think he under sells himself here. With the right support staff and a senior quality mentor over his shoulder, i think Todd would make a good fit for us and turn us into a toughened/hardened professional outfit.

Nice article. I know Mike means hardness etc when he refers to Viney being blue collar, but it does read strangely about a guy who went to one of adelaide's best private schools!

I've just watched Todd's press conference from tuesday, and based on that, and if the team shows some better than good signs over the next 5 weeks, I would bet my cat's eyes he'll be our coach next year. His comments about not continuing beyond his 'tenure' for the rest of the season were completely unconvincing. Not to be a conspiracy theorist, but it could be imagined they brought him to the club this year as a little intro to the players and the environment should things go pear shaped. He has had excellent coaching development as an assistant, he played with precisely the mentality we all feel is lacking at the club, and now is one step closer to what I think is his ultimate post playing goal.......watch this space, but I for one am very hopeful for Todd's coaching prospects.
