Apparently MFC Stand for Nothing

Just out of interest, what does this statement 'stand for something' even mean? For instance what does a club like Essendon 'stand for'?

Just sounds like a bit of old cliched [censored] if you ask me. We have 37,000 members, most of whom who are extremely passionate about this club. I know for a fact this club means a hell of a lot to a hell of a lot of people. Patrick Smith can go do one as far as I am concerned.

The question is what does Patrick Smith stand for?

Has he played the game at the highest level?

Has he coached at the highest level?

Has he been a football administrator at the highest level?

Or is his only qualification that he can sit in the stands and snipe; we can do that, we don't need him, and what does he think it is that makes him better at it?

The guys a Toad nothing more, nothing less, his opinion is no more relevant that one of the posters on here, only difference is he may be able to express himself a little better, maybe.

Mate I agree with 90% of what he said.

My family came over to Melbourne after the planned strangulation of Fitzroy and the above comment really sums up the difference in culture between Fitzroy and Melbourne. When Fitzroy went to the wall we went there fighting, scratching and eye gouging against an AFL that wanted mergers and clubs out of Melbourne. We just didn't pack up and take off like south melbourne.

This club does stand for something and it carries the name of the great city of Melbourne with all it's history and culture. To hear some of us agreeing with a silly old woman like patrick smith beggars belief.

We are way to nice, it is reflected in the players.

Yes I did RR, suggested it should be past onto the players as they probably need it to keep warm more than me.

1964 was the last time this club was truly feared. Somewhere along the line we went from being a premier club to being one of those poorer also ran clubs. This has to do with years of losing, but the club was lucky enough to retain a handful of great supporters over these years.

This club is all about those willing to keep pushing, keep going against all odds. All of you give up your time after work to come on here and show your passion. This is what the clubs needs. It might not look like much to opposition supporters, but there are some bloody die hard Demon loyalists on here, and many of you make up our membership base. North and the Doggies would kill for more of you. Collingwood and Carlton claim to have more of you, but would they have the fan base they have now if they had not won a premiership since 64? Doubtful.

We have work to do, but we do stand for something. The passion is as deep here as anywhere, and when we rise again you will hear it from the stands of the MCG.
