The secret which my Father used on me is to get them in while they are still young.

twas Grand Praire , Alberta

Thanks. Sounds like even late spring would be chilly there ...

strangely....I've been there....lol.....wasnt all that warm that day from memory to tell the truth

its a hop skip and a jump from a YHA I stayed at many many moons ago.

I was broke...I made a deal with the manager to trade labour for lodgings ( and food ) I painted thebasement and stairs. A few others caught on to my deal. A certain Mary from Colorado ( funny what you remember ) did it to and decided to thank me . She took me out to dinner..A little cafe at the end of a lonG LONG pier in Halifax. I swear at one moment I was being set up and reminded me of a funny Get Smart episode.. Lapping water, deep fog, boats fog horns etc. quite surreal

anyhow sat at table . No chairs matched not the cutlery. She ordered two house specials.

Promptly two mugs of tea arrived. Followed by the biggest bowl of hand cut chips.I thought..Cool..Tea and chips...we were both pretty broke after all.

Then

Then

Two plates with half a lobster each... It was the chepaest meal in Halifax...no lie . The lobsters were rejects. bashed shells etc Cafes restaurants wouldnt touch them and so this weird littel cafe bought them for next to nothing.

I sent back a telegram ( htas how long ago ) to Dad...

In Halifax...stop

Broke..stop

Forced to eat Lobster....stop

please send money.....stop

strangely none arrived !!!! LOL

ALL TRUE !!

There's an obvious reason why no money arrived. After you asked for it you wrote "stop", so he stopped.

Don't know where to put this so will see if it has any impact among the more astute correspondents on the site

Just watching the tour and see an ad for colonial first state featuring red and blue traffic lights

QBE we're long term supporters of Sydney enjoyed the journey and success through promotional campaign.

Could colonial be an opportunity for the club to secure a long term sponsor with a profile that would be mutually beneficial?

Could someone mention this to our club decision makers?

Are you sure OD as my letter demanding a premiership in 2014 has sadly been misfiled.

That could be read in soooooooooo many bad ways Toady.

Oh I had only one meaning there Mr Moon and that was to recruit them into supporting a football team, in this case the Melourne football Club before they get recruited by some other Clubs supporter.

You know it most be done as MY GOD MAN they could become a Collingwood Supporter!

Noone would want that to happen.

Don't visit that part of Canada

I thought Canada was part of the United States!

Late last year I went to the US(New York)....Took a quick flight to Niagra falls.......Very cold for Oct/Nov

A couple of weeks later I saw a newpaper article and photo where the falls had frozen over.....The place where I had been sitting taking photos was covered in ice and snow and icicles hanging from the hand rails

Now that's cold.

I thought Canada was part of the United States!

Dont utter that to a Canadian......ever lol

Be a good idea{got it from RaB}for you old buzzards hanging around this thread,to meet at a game.?

Soon if possible as BBO stil overseas in golden triangle.

This buzzard will have a few kids (well, teenagers) in tow at the MCG this week, including a visitor from Dili. Details are a bit unclear as yet (as tickets for them have been arranged by someone else), but I will be there.

  • PREVIEW: Carlton

Good evening, Demon fans and welcome back to the Demonland Podcast ... it’s time to discuss this week’s game against the Blues. Will the Demons celebrate Clayton Oliver’s 200th game with a victory? We have a number of callers waiting on line … Leopold Bloom: Carlton and Melbourne are both out of finals contention with six wins and eleven losses, and are undoubtedly the two most underwhelming and disappointing teams of 2025. Both had high expectations at the start of participating and advancing deep into the finals, but instead, they have consistently underperformed and disappointed themselves and their supporters throughout the year. However, I am inclined to give the Demons the benefit of the doubt, as they have made some progress in addressing their issues after a disastrous start. In contrast, the Blues are struggling across the board and do not appear to be making any notable improvements. They are regressing, and a significant loss is looming on Saturday night. Max Gawn in the ruck will be huge and the Demon midfield have a point to prove after lowering their colours in so many close calls.

  • REPORT: North Melbourne

I suppose that I should apologise for the title of this piece, but the temptation to go with it was far too great. The memory of how North Melbourne tore Melbourne apart at the seams earlier in the season and the way in which it set the scene for the club’s demise so early in the piece has been weighing heavily upon all of us. This game was a must-win from the club’s perspective, and the team’s response was overwhelming. The 36 point win over Alastair Clarkson’s Kangaroos at the MCG on Sunday was indeed — roovenge of the highest order!

  • CASEY: Werribee

The Casey Demons remain in contention for a VFL finals berth following a comprehensive 76-point victory over the Werribee Tigers at Whitten Oval last night. The caveat to the performance is that the once mighty Tigers have been raided of many key players and are now a shadow of the premiership-winning team from last season. The team suffered a blow before the game when veteran Tom McDonald was withdrawn for senior duty to cover for Steven May who is ill.  However, after conceding the first goal of the game, Casey was dominant from ten minutes in until the very end and despite some early errors and inaccuracy, they managed to warm to the task of dismantling the Tigers with precision, particularly after half time when the nominally home side provided them with minimal resistance.
