thing is DC...PT is and ought to be a Public Service provision. By all means run it properly but that often is at loggerheads with pennypinching and eyes only on the bottom line.

To have allowed two incompatible train designs loose on once homogeneous network was ridiculous. Had there been ONE authority overseeing this wed have saved millions...Remember.. the franchise didnt buy the trains..just ordered them WE paid for them. One lot the crappy french Xtraps cant even run safely at theposted speeds allowed. Brilliant !!

btw I have much respect for Ingénierie Française, but those xtraps were from the bargain basement

what other city allows more than one body to oversee one element of infrastructure ?? f'n stupidity to the x !!

Lots of power over here.

Wait a sec just turning on my other air conditioner just because I can.

That better, life great LOL

don't doubt it bb, and as i said i'm swayed towards the notion pt should be a ps utility

i was just pointing out that that won't be the end of "issues", big or small. remember myki was a govt decision

Agreed, DC. The thing that swings it for me in favour of public ownership is that then the water or electricity (or whatever) provider has an incentive to decrease demand, rather than increase it, whereas private such providers tend to want to increase everything. If nothing else, the drought of a few years ago should have taught us that we can't take supply of these things for granted ...

Other than that, it comes down to whoever has the best bananas ...

That is my understanding as well dc.

Bring back the SEC I say.

We have been on the downhill slide ever since Jeff sold it.

The slide started once Sir John Monash (of WWI fame) stopped running it ... Once great, now struggling to do its job --- sounds a bit like a certain football club ... :)

The idea of subdividing the transit system under the notion of "competition " was the start of the rot. How can there be competition with different elements servicing different destinations etc. It was flawed as a concept and buggered in delivery. Yes that was a Govt decision... a bad one.

Myki , also a Govt introduction. The authority, any authority that actual RAN a system didn't want it as was full of problems from the get go..it too a govt decision not an PT one, they just have to wear it. these things occurred as result of 'agendas' not genuine progress :(

PT whether utility run or privately operated is too painful to discuss

when i think of all the wasted money and dumb decisions i could cry

and to cap it off no-one pays anyway (well mostly)

little correction bbo, its "The Peoples Republic of Mornington Peninsula and Boganville"

you know how i like to pay attention to detail

Sounds like it is the Powerless Republic of Mornington Peninsula and Boganville today ... Blackout at Frankston Shopping Centre

Perhaps the North and West are needlessly worried?

and then we come back to utilities where less is more.

you use less, you pay more

Last i heard Portsea and Sorrento were trying to distance themselves further by establishing a Principality !! ^_^

Ouch!

You guys do have real issues over there it seems.

I would have blamed BBO, Biff and Moonie but it appears this issue is bigger then them.

Just think last week this was me.

Rationality of that sort never seems to stop Demonlanders (with the exception of this thread, generally )

With Lindsay Fox as Prince for life and building a private swimming pool on crown land adjacent to the royal palace.

All hail, Prince Lindsay!!!

Come to think of it we could do with some hail right now.

Don't know how they can play tennis in the heat. I think it is just plain dangerous and the officials have failed the players.

They will be Skiing next week if they live.

In the meantime-let 'em fry.

  • PREVIEW: Port Adelaide

With both sides precariously positioned ahead of the run home to the finals, only one team involved in Sunday’s clash at the Adelaide Oval between the Power and the Demons will remain a contender when it’s over.  On current form, that one team has to be Melbourne which narrowly missed out on defeating the competition’s power house Collingwood on King's Birthday and also recently overpowered both 2024 Grand Finalists. Conversely, Port Adelaide snapped out of a four-game losing streak with a win against the Giants in Canberra. Although they will be rejuvenated following that victory, their performances during that run of losses were sub par and resulted in some embarrassing blow out defeats.

  • REPORT: Collingwood

The media focus on the fiery interaction between Max Gawn and Steven May at the end of the game was unfortunate because it took away the gloss from Melbourne’s performance in winning almost everywhere but on the scoreboard in its Kings Birthday clash with Collingwood at the MCG. It was a real battle reminiscent of the good old days when the rivalry between the two clubs was at its height and a fitting contest to celebrate the 2025 Australian of the Year, Neale Daniher and his superb work to bring the campaign to raise funds for motor neurone disease awareness to the forefront. Notwithstanding the fact that the Magpies snatched a one point victory from his old club, Daniher would be proud of the fact that his Demons fought tooth and nail to win the keenly contested game in front of 77,761 fans.

  • PREGAME: Port Adelaide

The Demons are set to embark on a four-week road trip that takes them across the country, with two games in Adelaide and a clash on the Gold Coast, broken up by a mid-season bye. Next up is a meeting with the inconsistent Port Adelaide at Adelaide Oval. Who comes in and who goes out?

  • POSTGAME: Collingwood

Despite effectively playing against four extra opponents, the Dees controlled much of the match. However, their inaccuracy in front of goal and inability to convert dominance in clearances and inside 50s ultimately cost them dearly, falling to a heartbreaking one-point loss on King’s Birthday.
