There is no such thing as a bad win, especially over the Hawks!

Didn't say it was a bad win, I said it was awful footy.

I am astounded that no one on this great thread noticed that May 1st was National Banana Day.

An absolute disgrace!

True, but given the amount of awful footy that I have witnessed, it is always better to win with awful footy than to be beaten by less than a kick having played great footy. Anyway, back to bananas ...

Is there some great historical achievement that the day celebrates?  Was it the crowning of King Banana of the Banana Republic perhaps?

Or maybe was it the birthday of the Top Banana?

Were the bells peeling across the suburbs?  Did the loyal fans go on a bender?

So many questions with possibly fruitful answers.

Why yes... Of course.

The Big Banana... the Head Honcho's of the bigger Publicly listed companies.

There's you King Banana's... right there.

Thank you OD for that ripe old suggestion, but I’m a bit too bent for public office.

Isn't that the first requirement if public office?

Shouldn't be too hard to get another win tonight. Playing at home with a full strength side. Oh, sorry, that is the opposition.

Yes they are all injured.

With the dees returning to the winning ways of 2013/4 I have this year rekindled my interest in the Uni Blacks in the Amos and Casey after forsacking the Amos last year.

Went to windy hill last weekend and Uni Blacks game against Old Haileyburians at Princes park Caulfield today. Bounded by Bamba Rd and Dover street.

Is this the ground that the old Caulfield Bears played at in the VFA days. I played a couple of practice matches for my country team back in the early 70's against Caulfield bears . Seemed to be the right place but 47 years ago is a long stretch for my memory these days.

Any one have any idea?

Almost forgot we won easily. Sure beats watch the easy beats.

Come on OD the easy beats is your favourite band. You may pretend to hate them, but you keep coming back to watch them time after time.

Yes this the old Bears ground but it was not right on Dover street but a hundred metres or so to the north  Used to have a very old stand and the "cave" for drinks after,    as I remember !!

  • REPORT: West Coast

On a night of counting, Melbourne captain Max Gawn made sure that his contribution counted. He was at his best and superb in the the ruck from the very start of the election night game against the West Coast Eagles at Optus Stadium, but after watching his dominance of the first quarter and a half of the clash evaporate into nothing as the Eagles booted four goals in the last ten minutes of the opening half, he turned the game on its head, with a ruckman’s masterclass in the second half.  No superlatives would be sufficient to describe the enormity of the skipper’s performance starting with his 47 hit outs, a career-high 35 possessions (22 of them contested), nine clearances, 12 score involvements and, after messing up an attempt or two, finally capping off one of the greatest rucking performances of all time, with a goal of own in the final quarter not long after he delivered a right angled pass into the arms of Daniel Turner who also goaled from a pocket (will we ever know if the pass is what was intended). That was enough to overturn a 12 point deficit after the Eagles scored the first goal of the second half into a 29 point lead at the last break and a winning final quarter (at last) for the Demons who decided not to rest their champion ruckman at the end this time around.

  • POSTGAME: West Coast

Following a disastrous 0–5 start to the season, the Demons have now made it three wins in a row, cruising past a lacklustre West Coast side on their own turf. Skipper Max Gawn was once again at his dominant best, delivering another ruck masterclass to lead the way.
