Interesting info about the history of Tasmania, thanks demonlanders. You learn something every day!  I can't recall too much about Australian history from school. The only thing I remember is that Matthew Flinders sailed down the east coast from Sydney.  He entered Port Phillip bay through the heads and went on to mount Martha. That surprised me because I had thought Martha had stayed home in England.

Is it possible the doc cavorted a little too enthusiastically during the abovementioned rites of summer and did himself a mischief?

What's that thing about doing unto others? I tend to prefer that direction. First anyway.

Have been enjoying myself of late poking feathers at Crusader Biffin and reading about nineteenth century s-x crimes in Vienna. No connection of course.

The more things change the more they go backwards, daisy. We get by jumping from satellite to a Telstra mobile broadband service to using an iPhone as a hotspot. But there was a 7:30 report thing a while ago on a bloke who has to put his iPhone in a plastic bag and hoist it up a tree to get any sort of internet so I can't complain (and no one would listen anyway).

Good to know that things are moving so fast in the metropoli though.

yeah, i saw that report. very impressed with his resourcefulness. must be a bushy thing. but seriously, have they talked to you about moving you to the new satellite? it did sound like a big improvement for satellite nbn, but maybe it is reserved for other areas or some such other bureaucracy?

We're completely in the dark about the new satellite and it doesn't seem to have helped ease the load on the existing one. We have outage after outage, only some of them planned. Assuming the wet arrives soon we'll probably need to connect to the web via semaphore.

Hope you're right 'bub. Will we have to rely on Telstra to get it working though?

A communications engineer has told me that Telsta is overcharging the NBN access its infrastructure and pits, which are full of asbestos and disconnected lines.

Privatised Telstra is now destroying its own competition through arbitrage and sabotage.

Our Bitter correspondent has asked me to inform you that he is taking a week off to practice his diction and cultural awareness.

It seems a typo made in poor taste has offended someone worried in case of somebody getting offended.

Bitters was guilty of stereotyping our Asianneighbours ability to pronounce the letter r.

I suppose the decades he's spent teaching Asian children English  must have been interspersed with some Hey Hey it's Saturday!!

I did buy lunch at a shop called " wok and lol" today and funnily enough it was busy with customers and not a single placard in sight.

In conclusion I think the punishment is just  for such an archaic evocation.

I expect he will be flagellating himself  vigorously in contrition.

Hmm, this looks suspiciously like posting by proxy, another clever effort by BBO to slip past any scrupulous mods who might visit here. That's highly unlikely I suppose.

More alarming is the information that he's been allowed to teach anyone anything. I though proponents of Dickensian education techniques had been shuffled off into administrative jobs long ago.

Anyway, didn't you say in another thread that you were off for a souvlaki at lunchtime yesterday?

I'm back from Tassie. In my opinion Uncle Bitter would make an excellent teacher. On that subject I noticed in Launceston there was a Steiner school.

My question is .........How is it we fought two world wars to have a German education system?

Xin. Chau Chairman Dee.

I have just been awoken by the voice of communist radio and big sister!!!

Bbos joke would fall very flat here.

Nodody talks out of turn.

You would love it!

Also , you can crack a beer in the AM without a batted eyelid in sight!

Gotta love the commos.

Ive had a chance to speak some terrible French already .

On the flight over I learnt more about the Silk Road.

There are pots and jars from the Middle East found in an excavation here that dates back to 8th C!

Still no huge take up of contraception in Saigon judging by the traffic.

And the other news I can report is that I'm a mutli- millionaire .

Ive been grasping my Dong with unrestrained joy!

Very pleasing that you have arrived in Vietnam without harm, Biff. You don't mention, though, whether you caused any on the way.

My sister was there a few years ago and loved it. She's always talking out of turn.

I expect your bad French to continue. It's our historic duty to offend against the language, especially wherever we find the remnants of their failed colonial enterprises.

I won't venture anywhere near the bad Dong puns. I presume you'll return with at least six months' supply of these. If not, you could bring back a stick-on Uncle Ho beard for BBO to wear to the first game of the season.

They encourage the children to think outside the square .

Then they [censored] them if they do.

It's a uniquely German approach to innovation.

    REDEEMING by Meggs

It was such a balmy spring evening for this mid-week BNCA Pink Lady match at our favourite venue Ikon Park between two teams that had not won a game since round one.   After last week’s insipid bombing, the DeeArmy banner correctly deemanded that our players ‘go in hard, go in strong, go in fighting’, and girl they sure did!   The first quarter goals by Alyssa Bannan and Alyssia Pisano were simply stunning, and it was 4 goals to nil by half-time.   Kudos to Mick Stinear.

    REDEEM by Meggs

How will Mick Stinear and his dwindling list of fit and available Demons respond to last week’s 65-point capitulation to the Bombers, the team’s biggest loss in history?   As a minimum he will expect genuine effort from all of his players when Melbourne takes on the GWS Giants at Ikon Park this Thursday.  Happily, the ground remains a favourite Melbourne venue of players and spectators alike and will provide an opportunity for the Demons to redeem themselves. Injuries to star play

    EASYBEATS by Meggs

A beautiful sunny Friday afternoon, with a light breeze and a strong Windy Hill crowd set the scene, inviting one team to seize the day and take the important four points on offer. For the Demons it was not a good Friday, easily beaten by an all-time largest losing margin of 65 points.   Essendon threw themselves into action today, winning most of the contests and had three early goals with Daria Bannister on fire.  In contrast the Demons were dropping marks, hesitant in close and comm

    DEFUSE THE BOMBERS by Meggs

Last Saturday’s crushing loss to Fremantle, after being three goals ahead at three quarter time, should be motivation enough to bounce back for this very winnable Round 5 clash at Windy Hill. A first-time venue for the Melbourne AFLW team, this should be a familiar suburban, windy, footy environment for the players.   Essendon were brave and competitive last week against ladder leader Adelaide at Sturt’s home ground. A familiar name, Maddison Gay, was the Bombers best player with

    BLOW THE SIREN by Meggs

Fremantle hosted the Demons on a sunny 20-degree Saturdayafternoon winning the toss and electing to defend in the first quarter against the 3-goal breeze favouring the Parry Street end. There was method here, as this would give the comeback queens, the Dockers, last use of the breeze. The Melbourne Coach had promised an improved performance, and we did start better than previous weeks, winning the ball out of the middle, using the breeze advantage and connecting to the forwards.

    GETAWAY by Meggs

Calling all fit players. Expect every available Melbourne player to board the Virgin cross-continent flight to Perth for this Round 4 clash on Saturday afternoon at Fremantle Oval. It promises to be keenly contested, though Fremantle is the bookies clear favourite.  If we lose, finals could be remoter than Rottnest Island especially following on from the Dees 50-point dismantlement by North Melbourne last Sunday.  There are 8 remaining matches, over the next 7 weeks.  To Meggs’

    DRUBBING by Meggs

With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.

    GARNER STRENGTH by Meggs

In keeping with our tough draw theme, Week 3 sees Melbourne take on flag favourites, North Melbourne, at Casey Fields this Sunday at 1:05pm.  The weather forecast looks dry, a coolish 14 degrees and will be characteristically gusty.  Remember when Casey Fields was considered our fortress?  The Demons have lost two of their past three matches at the Field of Dreams, so opposition teams commute down the Princes Highway with more optimism these days.  The Dees held the highe

    ALLY’S FIELDS by Meggs

It was a sunny morning at Casey Fields, as Demon supporters young and old formed a guard of honour for fan favourite and 50-gamer Alyssa Bannan.  Banno’s banner stated the speedster was the ‘fastest 50 games’ by an AFLW player ever.   For Dees supporters, today was not our day and unfortunately not for Banno either. A couple of opportunities emerged for our number 6 but alas there was no sizzle.   Brisbane atoned for last week’s record loss to North Melbourne, comprehensively out
