Had a quick look through the relative threads and couldn't see anything about it, but just wondering if you blokes have noticed the great spirit, friendship, team mateship, or whatever you want to call it between these two guys? Always the first to get around each other after a goal, encouraging each other etc, they really seem to have developed a special bond. That's the observation part of it, the suggestion part is if anyone has a pal around one of the papers maybe give them a bit of a shoulder tap with the idea that an article/interview featuring the Brighton kid and the Yuendumu tribal elder together could possibly be an interesting one. Both players have a bit of x-factor about them but have come completely different paths and have seemingly become good mates through footy, and gee we could do with a positive story about race relations through AFL right now!

Good idea for an article. Though I notice that Liam is often the first to congratulate anyone who kicks a goal and he always shows genuine joy for the player (and the team) when doing so. It's a leaders quality, selfless and open-hearted. Having said that, there does seem to be a special bond between him and Watts.

It may be that for elite talent, up in the stratosphere like those two are, there are very few genuine peers. It's as though despite the huge cultural divide they recognize each others prowess and are reveling in it's emergence. It is so exciting to see that relationship develop.

Was evident from Jurrahs first game when they started the game sitting next to each other on the bench.

They had a similar introduction AFL football, both tall slight forwards on a bad team getting knocked around. Similar experiences tend to build respect.

On a general note, the team spirit is great at the moment.

great post stuie.I agree that it would be a great read if they did an article on how footy has brought these two together. Both terrific footballers and even better blokes to go with it.

I noted in another post that it has been especially evident during the last two weeks how well these two get on. This is just what we want all the boys to have. This special relationship which will develop whilst they do the same. I think Geelong had the same thing during their years of premierships. THe team had rebuilt and grown together. It is rather special to watch the two of them together. When Liam kicked the goal in the last minutes on Saturday and went to the ground everyone went over to him concerned that he had hurt himself. To me that shows that a team that sticks together will fight together.

Don't know if there's anything that's been written, if it's a close friendship off the ground, or just on... But I've noticed it. I think with the departure of Wonna, we might all be hoping for this kind of camaraderie. But they're certainly friends on-field. They celebrate heartily together, have little in jokes.

I'd have suggested Matt Burgan as he's the official club writer. He'd have ready access to the players and whatnot as well.

I haven't noticed a chemistry between them per se, but I hope it's there. It's really exciting seeing two players who clearly understand each other. I think as our forward line settles and each player grows in confidence this relationship will continue to blossom.

Definitely has a bit of an odd couple feel to it too, you'd think guys from such completely different backgrounds would never meet and never have the opportunity to bond if it wasn't for footy. Great stuff. Reminds me of the article I read about how strong a working bond Nathan Carroll and Ben Holland had while at the club - the privileged private school kid from SA and the kid from WA who did it tough and dropped out of school as a teenager. I guess that all probably ended when Chopper punched Dutchy in the head in a drunken rage.

Something else I'd like to see on You Tube was Liam's second goal (I think it was). The ball came high to the top of the square & he stayed down while Jack flew against both their opponents. Jack didn't try to mark it, just got it down to Liam who did the rest. It looked as if they didn't have to talk, they just each seemed to know what had to be done by both of them and had faith that the other would do it. Turned a 50-50 situation into a relatively easy (for Liam) goal.

It might have something to do with last year's MOTY - wasn't Watts the step ladder?

They spend a lot of time in the fwd training group together. They are about the same pace and so probably spend a bit of time running together over the summer.

There's no two bigger smiles when those two get together, makes me warm and fuzzy. Also if Watts starts playing deeper and Jurrah more HF, Wattsy will have some bruised [censored] courtesy of some low trajectory Jurrah bullets.
