This is a public forum so, within reason, one can say anything.

Bazinga!!!

With this in mind - rpfc is putting his guarantee on this - HO007 isn't worth reading when it comes to the Tom Scully issue.

As I've said before if people want a political "opinion" on everything I'm sure you are our man ... its definitely not me. B)

I don't think you do.

I mean, do you read what you write?

It's meandering, contradictory and, at times, unfollowable.

Whatever happened to the theory that Scully had signed with GWS, but had changed his mind and wanted to get out of the deal? We had a long forum on the legal merits of a 'heads of agreement' contract verses a binding agreement.

They asked Lynch about this rumour on SEN this morning. He said he hadn't heard the rumour and he firmly denied it. End of story.

SO whu does he not name them then? I'm sick of this I was told blah blah blah, either name your source or shut up!

I agree that is nothing but cheap easy journalism..My sources are as good as that, and i don't have any!

I don't agree with it by the way, just sharing information.

Most journalist have backflipped on this issue numerous times indicating that they have no idea.

The Herald Sun journos just go back and forth with this rumour mongering and hearsay on 'so and so who is in the know told me so' BS!

At the end of the season all will be revealed and either a bunch of people 'in the know' are talking crap trying to unsettle our season and efforts to keep Tom or our number 31 isn't being totally honest with us. Regardless of the end result their are good times ahead for the MFC with or without Tom.

@samsara sorry I did not mean to come off as it was you I was having a go at you.

It is all good mate, didn't even see it that way.

It is going to be a long wait until the end of the season, but can't wait for this issue to be resolved either way!

MArk Stevens is a [censored] of the highest order. He was the one hellbent on naming the young man from the Gold coast who didn't want to be named over the weekend. The only person that would know is Tom and I'm sure he hasn't told Mark Stevens.

I heard the rumour of 6 mil for 6 years on Xmas eve and spoke to Tom about it on Boxing day and he had a good laugh about it.... said he hadn't discussed a contract with Melbourne let alone GWS. Left it there as it wasn't a big deal until the rumour file and eddie started a [censored] storm. Since the rumours surfaced I spoke with Tom including last weeek and again he said he hasn't received anything.

whilst players like C.Ward at bulldogs have spoken to GWS twice which maybe means that Tom isn't a real target of GWS (obviously they would love him but aren't preapred to make him thee second highest player in the league like the media report)

Not sure how to do multi posts but Ron I think its great you share the information you hear (its all debatable). I appreciate you passing on such information because people of this site run in different circles and do hear things that others don't and as we are all MFC supporters we love hearing this stuff.

Jarka... loves playing football, loves the dees, loves the boys, hates the AFL fishbowl. Thinks bailey is a tactic genius for the modern game but isn't a big motivator ( ie ra ra sort of person like Beamer etc etc) although said 'you shouldn't need a coach to fire you up to play AFL'. Thinks there is a lot of pressure on Bailey and the board is heavily involved in the football department with stynes, Cam.S and board members always around which is unusual from what he hears occurs at other clubs. Very glad to be back playing as rehab sucked and thinks thee pressure for spot has increased the players following team rules. Said a lot of younger players got games over the last few years who didn't do what they were supposed to but because we were crap they didn't drop them, this is now happening which is better for the team. (I have posted this to show Toms a normal kid playing AFL football, don't try and now attack him from one or two sentences that I have wrote and twist into something its not. Most demonlander will enjoy seeing what some of the players think and I am happy to clarify anything but would hope people take it for what it is a bit of an insight.)

Great post WM - a very interesting update. I also appreciate the fact that you understand I was merely reporting something I'd heard, ideally for the benefit of the thread. But for your post, I have to say I harboured genuine concerns after hearing what I'd heard on the weekend. I now feel more relaxed - this thing has been a bloody roller-coaster.

I really hope your mate, number 31, stays with this club. I suspect if he re-signs, he'll be a Demon for life.

As an aside, it was interesting listening to Diesel Williams being interviewed by Mike Sheehan last night. He said he wanted to stay at Geelong. They offered him $45K to stay; the Swans offered him $100K to leave. He asked for $5K more from the Cats and they refused. Had they offered that to him, he says he would've stayed - perhaps for life. The Cats played in 4 grand finals since he left, and you'd have to think he would've had an impact in those games. It's weird how history takes its course.

Bottom line though - it seems to take a lot for a young player to leave his first club. You'd therefore hope we've got a lot of cards up our sleeve.

OK and those blokes (foundation members etc) are going to tell you they havnt signed him???

They have a foundation member? Plural? Surely there's not two of them out there at falafel town. That's 90% of the population.

Recent Tweet from Mark Stevens

"Scully gawn I reckon. People who should know today said convinced. Shame"

http://twitter.com/#!/stevoheraldsun

Assuming all is above board, I have people who know too, and their name is Wolfmother. I would take the word of someone who spends Boxing Day with Tom and spoke to him last week over some halfwit hack at the hun. I know WM didn't say he would stay, but the signs are very good, and he also said he hasn't signed squat. So unless Mark Stevens has seen a signed contract for 2012 with GWS, I reckon it's about time he shut it!

Thanks mate but didn't spend boxing day with him I was at the test and he was at a family holiday in NSW (queue fear mongering) I think he was some likely merimbula sounded like the same place you go ever year with the olds... But I was with the mate who had heard the initial rumour so we called him to find out if it was true.

Tom would love to know the sources or see these offers because they are very impressive but he hasn't seen them and will follow the plan to wait and try to get a great deal from the MFC (no he is not holding out for more money like most on here insist as he hasn't discussed it with them) and be a one club player.

Social scientists have been studying rumour and the psychology of rumour for well over a century. There are many theories about how rumours start and how they are used in society for various purposes including rumour as a form of propaganda and a way of controlling opinion, views and ultimately events. You only need to read a Tom Scully thread like this one to get a feel of this concept.

I suspect that one day, the story of Tom Scully and his second AFL contract will provide the background for somebody's PhD thesis.

At the end of that day a lot of people are going to look very foolish.

Posted

FWIW, I've heard from people with connections to the MFC board that he has not signed anything. The board is not drawing inferences either way on that. And neither should we.

Take it or leave it. I really couldn't give a rat's tossbag anymore. Nothing's going to happen until the end of the year. The best we can do is keep winning and hope that he enjoys life as a Demon enough to offset the clear financial loss he will cop if he stays,

I try to, but as someone earlier in the thread said, it's a little bit of a guilty pleasure. Love/Hate. The sort of thing where after I read it, I feel dirty, but I still keep reading it against my own will :)

THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
