King failed in his bid to have his one week ban overturned.

Just because Trenners got rubbed out doesn't mean these tackle suspensions sit well with me.

It's a contact sport, tackling as hard as you can used to be a highlight. Brisbane won 3 flags doing it ffs, and it was a joy to watch.

Watching players carried off with concussion's hardly a highlight of a modern sport. It'll take 12 - 18 months for the players to adapt. Tackling will still be an integral part of the game, just without the concussion. I'm in total agreement with the MRP on this.

Bit stiff on Jake 'the push-up' King. Wasn't a lot in it. Poor record must have been deciding factor, because it was a low impact at best. Happy to see him in the stands this weekend though!

what's this push up call i must have missed whatever the genesis of that was

apparently he did 300 push ups in a row during pre season training in front of army commandos

or sumthin along those lines, he still remains a little muppet tho

Love Jake King.

Very happy he's not playing this week though!

he would have a good strength-to-weight ratio, 300 sheeeesus

300 Push Ups is a mighty effort...when i was 16 i could do 100. but i was absolutely exhausted!

200 from there is extraudinary.

Can't wait for saturday afternoon.

To hear Tiger Supporters Singing "Oh we finished 9th again" a Coodabeens Classic

There was video of it - it was on their preseason trip from memory.

Somewhere in the desert or something.

I remember seeing it turn into those little pushups where you only move up and down about 5 cm, and then his arms starting to give out at the end.

He had serious shakes.

It's probably on YouTube somewhere.

If they AFL ever finally do introduce the rule where the most pushups gets possession of the ball, rather than a ball up, Jake King will be useful.

He also did for the Good Friday appeal a certain number of one handed push ups for charity on Seven on the back of those 300 from pre-season. Last year.

ie.

Some caller rang in with "I'll donate $100 and double it if the Push up King can do 50 one handed pushups.."

Wearing thongs he did it on one ear.

Check these out:

I'm so sick of this stupid Umpire contact bull. Really if its all unintentional then who cares. It should only be in place for matters of hostillity

Who gets to decide if it's intentional or not?

This is a rule that should be black and white.

If you introduce a shade of grey, it will be exploited. "Oh, sorry ump! It was unintentional. Enjoy your stay in hospital."

The players, coaches, clubs have a track record of taking a mile when given an inch.

In general, there are way too many shades of grey in AFL rules. Why the umps should have to "interpret" anything is beyond me. Decide what the rule should be, word it accordingly, then no "interpretation" is necessary. The Geisch has a lot to answer for.

Is there any other sport that requires so much "interpretation" of its rules?

100% with you Roost It. It can't be that difficult to grab a player, hold him tight and not sling him to the ground.

And my concern is not just about the effects of concussion for professional footballers. In local footy the size differences between players means this sort of tackling is even more dangerous. My only concern about the rule is contrary to most opinions here. I don't think it should matter what the extent of the injury is. It should only matter that the tackle might have been able to cause an injury because of its type - not whether it did or not.

  • REPORT: St. Kilda

When looking back at the disastrous end to the game, I find it a waste of time to concentrate on the final few moments when utter confusion reigned. Forget the 6-6-6 mess, the failure to mark the most dangerous man on the field, the inability to seal the game when opportunities presented themselves to Clayton Oliver, Harry Petty and Charlie Spargo, the vision of match winning players of recent weeks in Kozzy Pickett and Jake Melksham spending helpless minutes on the interchange bench and the powerlessness of seizing the opportunity to slow the tempo of the game down in those final moments.

  • CASEY: Sandringham

The Casey Demons rebounded from a sluggish start to manufacture a decisive win against Sandringham in the final showdown, culminating a quarter century of intense rivalry between the fluctuating alignments of teams affiliated with AFL clubs Melbourne and St Kilda, as the Saints and the Zebras prepare to forge independent paths in 2026. After conceding three of the first four goals of the match, the Demons went on a goal kicking rampage instigated by the winning ruck combination of Tom Campbell with 26 hitouts, 26 disposals and 13 clearances and his apprentice Will Verrall who contributed 20 hitouts. This gave first use of the ball to the likes of Jack Billings, Bayley Laurie, Riley Bonner and Koltyn Tholstrup who was impressive early. By the first break they had added seven goals and took a strong grip on the game. The Demons were well served up forward early by Mitch Hardie and, as the game progressed, Harry Sharp proved a menace with a five goal performance. Emerging young forwards Matthew Jefferson and Luker Kentfield kicked two each but the former let himself down with some poor kicking for goal.
Young draft talent Will Duursma showed the depth of his talent and looks well out of reach for Melbourne this year. Kalani White was used sparingly and had a brief but uneventful stint in the ruck.

The Demons return to the scene of the crime on Saturday to face the wooden spooners the Eagles at the Docklands. Who comes in and who goes out? Like moving deck chairs on the Titanic.

It's Game Day and there are only 5 games to go. Can the Demons find some consistency and form as they stagger towards the finish line of another uninspiring season?
