My 3 word player analysis V The Fockers

Featured Replies

Green - stood up again

Jones - a pleasing game

Bartram - consecutive poor games

Watts - the complete game

Bennell - had little opportunity

Frawley - enjoyed smaller opponents

Trengove - not as productive

Morton - improving with confidence

Sylvia - classy all day

McKenzie - fantastic in close

Petterd - enjoyed more freedom

Garland - steady until injured

Moloney - hit packs running

Jurrah - slowly finding touch

Rivers - marshalled defence well

Macdonald - tough and safe

Scully - prolific and focused

Martin - athletic and composed

Gawn - some deft palming

Strauss - was rarely noticed

Nicholson - making his mark

Howe - continues to impress

Morton - improving with confidence

i would have prefered "please get poached"

a soft footballer with terrible touch in his short passes

Lame dig at Strauss who was good once again, also Morton is not improving. It's easy to look alright when he keeps getting the ball in open space because the opposition doesn't even bother to man up on him, but he always sheits himself in any contested situation.

Harsh on Bartram IMO, thought he was pretty good.

Morton had a poor game, made some crucial errors.

Thought Trengove was good.

As for Jurrah, would've had "needs a rest".

Pretty much agree with rest. Go Dees

No way. I know he has some good qualities, but his foot skills are not AFL standard. In fact, they are barely B-grade amateur standard. Shocking game.

Good analysis joeboy, only disagree somewhat on Morton, who I thought was frustrating for the most part (and I'm a Cale fan).

Strauss wasn't "good".

And I am yet to see this much vaunted elite kicking. It's early days but it doesn't do it for me.

Strauss has improved out of sight compared to where he was last year. I have yet to see him beaten this season. He may not always have a huge impact on the game offensively, but he's shutting down an attacking option and he's working well as a designated kicker from the back line. He also didn't put any out on the full today that i noticed.

My 2 cents:

Jordie McKenzie - Under that pack. :D

I thought Jurrah was pathetic today. His two goals at the end gloss over what has been a poor run of form for about 3-4 weeks. He's clearly injured. He's not contesting marks like he could last year. He is not leaping anywhere like he was last year. His defensive efforts amount to 2-3 chases per game. He is down on confidence and clearly needs a rest this week, get some rehab on the leg and get set for a huge friday night game against the Dogs @ the Dome. I could clearly see that he was frustrated and there were a couple moments that highlighted it for me. First there was the left foot snap from about 30 meters out that just went straight in the air when i'm sure there was a player free and 2. The dropped mark on the city end southern stand side and he could not follow it up with a handball.

Rest him. So my three words for Jurrah would be "Goals disguise form'

I agree and bring in Lucas Cook for a game, he could not have done worse than Jarrah today

well he could have not kicked 2 goals

Green - still a reciever

Jones - Hard at it

Bartram - good & average

Watts - entering AFL footy

Bennell - needs tough mentor

Frawley - working into form

Trengove - gutsy strong goer

Morton - very out side

Sylvia - bleeds Red / Blue

McKenzie - just all heart

Petterd - enjoyed howe's company

Garland - finding his feet

Moloney - hit packs running

Jurrah - will not chase

Rivers - great 6 weeks

Macdonald - very good form

Scully - loves the 'G'

Martin - a fantastic story

Gawn - going O K

Strauss - was all right

Nicholson - we need him

Howe - helps straighten up

LJ had the chances to kick a bag today but did little right. A spell with the Scorps seems in order.

Poor comment. I counted six times he run back with the flight of the ball.

LJ had the chances to kick a bag today but did little right. A spell with the Scorps seems in order.

Were you at the game? If you were you may have noticed how the majority of passes to LJ were too high, going over his head, dropping short or pitted him against two opponents. Sometimes several of these at once. The reason he didn't get more goals is because of the shocking delivery. You can't kick a pass two feet above his head and expect him to mark it when there's a taller defender in his back pocket. They just put the ball in his general direction and hope he can pull off a freak mark. Sooner or later we'll get some midfielders who understand that you kick a low pass to a leading target and he'll be kicking bags of 10. Watts had exactly the same problem today.

Bartram- One trick pony.

Frawley- Solid as rock

MacDonald- safe as houses

Strauss- I like him

Garland- very very important

Rivers- best spoiler in comp

Mckenzie- In and under specialist

Scully- Please dont go

Trengove- quiet by standards

Jones- still a c grader

Sylvia- always solid

Moloney- Eats clearances for breakfast

Stef- What a revelation

Big Maxy- cult hero

Morton- soft as butter

Nicho- explosive pace

Petterd- should have been there all along

Jurrah- just be patient

Howe- 100 times better than bate and dunn put together.

Green- great captains game

Watts- best on ground

Bennell- dissapointing- still waiting

3 words

Up and down

or is that

down then up

You being coached by Bailey this year joeboy? Usually you're pretty spot on, but today I disagree with most of your calls... Here's mine:

Green - leave him forward

Jones - tried, disposal ordinary

Bartram - see jones comment

Watts - unique gifted player

Bennell - coupla nice runs

Frawley - KICKED A GOAL!!

Trengove - solid, avoided attention

Morton - useless. useless. useless. (today anyways)

Sylvia - working really hard

McKenzie - VERY important cog

Petterd - in and out

Garland - need this bloke

Moloney - worked into it

Jurrah - needs to focus

Rivers - solid, team things

Macdonald - clint eastwood tough

Scully - invaluable running player

Martin - improved forward work

Gawn - a unique beast

Strauss - would've learned alot

Nicholson - some good moments

Howe - could save us

Bailey - made good changes

I have remained silent on Morton.

However yesterday his disposal and refusal to engage in the hard ball was obvious.

He gave up at least 2 goals.

jurrah couldn't get into it for 3 quarters. He was working hard off the ball for everyone else.

Bailey spent 2 mins @ 3/4 time pumping him up and clearly told the entire team to involve him in the play. - The best way to get confidence into a bloke.

Bailey then threw jurrah up the ground and it was clear from my position and reinforced hearing BT's commentary from in the corporates - Bailey instructed him 'go and get it'

Watch the last quarter and see the focus switch to players actively looking for him.

Wont be dropped

I didn't see DB pumping up Jurrah but I definitely thought we were deliberately trying to involve him in the game during that last quarter.

It's Game Day and the Demons will be running out on the field with a new Head Coach, albeit a caretaker, for the first time in 3,060 days when they face the Western Bulldogs at the MCG today. What do you want to see from the Demons in the first match of the Post Simon Goodwin era?

  • Thank You Simon Goodwin

As Demon fans, we’ve ridden a rollercoaster of emotions over the decades; the heartbreaks, the near misses, the wooden spoons, and the endless waiting. But through it all, we clung to hope. And then came Simon Goodwin. Before he ever wore red and blue, he was a champion in his own right. A five-time All-Australian, two-time Best and Fairest, and two-time premiership hero and Captain with Adelaide, Simon Goodwin was always destined to lead. When he transitioned from the field to the coach's box, first as an assistant at Essendon, he began shaping a new legacy.

  • PREVIEW: Western Bulldogs

Long ago and far away, the Melbourne Football Club replaced its coach in difficult circumstances after the team suffered a devastating loss. In the aftermath, I penned the following words: “Then came the politics, the intrigue, the axing, the sound of the football world laughing at a club, the circling of the media vultures, the reinvention of history, the anger, the irony, the pathos, the hurt on the face of the president, the dignified departure of the coach, and the determination of the newly appointed caretaker.” Today, we’re back in the same place although one difference here is that the coach who was terminated this time is Simon Goodwin, the man who four years ago

  • REPORT: West Coast

The Charles Dickens novel, A Tale of Two Cities, opens with, “It was the best of times, it was the worst of times, it was the age of wisdom, it was the age of foolishness, it was the epoch of belief, it was the epoch of incredulity, …”  This phrase highlights many of the significant challenges that humanity encounters in life, ranging from experiencing remarkable highs to living in times of despair. This is a concept that should resonate with all supporters of the Melbourne Football Club this morning as they reflect on its comprehensive 83-point victory over the struggling West Coast Eagles at Marvel Stadium. The outcome proved beyond doubt that they are the worst of clubs and that we are the best of the worst.
