The Tom Scully Saga

Featured Replies

I watched the reply tonight and there was certainly some booing coming through the affects mike.....

If it only affects Mike then what's the problem?

I can't wait to see Rohan Bail back in the team.

I'm with you there. Bail is a gun.

He is doing what is well within his right, if anything him signing on will say something about YOU...if he signs he will have been honest the whole time

This entire circus could be avoided so easily! and to me its more of a distraction to everyone then what it would of been to negiotiate at the start of the season. Bad managment on Team Scullys behalf.

I believe Scully will stay and I still follow him and cheer him. But it's funny...one thing to come out of this for me...I already loved him, but it makes me love Trenners even more.

I haven't been posting anything in this post, but in my opinion after all his comments in this season I've came to conclusion that he is a man of his words.

For example i hope you guys remember Tom Scully made a committment to not have alcohol before getting drafted and he never did use alcohol before getting drafted and when he made the decision to hold contract talks till end of the season he hasn't change his opinion and will still make the decision at the end of the season (eventhough as a demon fan i would rather see him sign a contract mid season), so when he says two months ago( I hope everyone remembered his press conference) that he will resist the temptation and said he want to be a one club player i believe him because of those example i shown and think there's a more chance scully will sign a contract with Melbourne Demons.

Good post. I also thought him stating that he has the trust of his team mates was interesting for similar reasons that you outlined.

Today when the players joined in a group to listen to Greeny the TV cameras were focusing on Tom. He looked up at the screen and quickly looked away and then Nathan Jones gave him a friendly clip over the head. In just that one second he looked so uncomforable with the attention being on him and not the team. I dont know that we can blame Tom for the mess that we are in. I think that blame lays squarely on his Management Team. Not only do they win handsomely from any huge deal that can be done with GWS but the continued media circus surrounding Tom also keeps their brand in the media spotlight. Don't forget he is 19 ears old and he and his family have suddenly been thrust into an area which they would have not had any dealings with before and they are taking advice from a group of car salesmen (apologies to any car salesmen on the site). It is very sad that the Club and Tom have been put into this position. There are no winners. We will breath a sigh of relief if he does sign but there will always be a note of doubt because we will always wonder if he has squeezed us so hard that we could lose other players that would have really loved to stay at the Club. If he goes he will always be looked on as mercenary and the Club will be asked if they did enough to make sure that he stayed. Opposition teams will not be sympathetic and some will question if MFC will ever be a Club where players will want to go to. A nasty situation.

Melbourne supporters did not boo Tom Scully.

If whoever said that means when he ran down the members wing in the 2nd qtr (the only audible boos when Scully was near it all day) that was Freo supporters booing because Scully was holding the man right before he took possession and it wasn't paid.

I mean seriously, you idiots need to find a hobby.

Spot on. All I could hear was extra loud applause and cheering when he came off the ground. Dees supporter did not boo him. Load of karp from the previous poster...

I watched the replay on Foxtel last night and couldnt hear anything either nor while I was at the game so figured it must have been a bunch of crap. Couldn't imagine anyone doing it and no-one around them giving them a serve.

no booing of scully at the match or near where I was sitting

fingers crossed he will stay - lets face it he is a gun and better than trengove

surprised by the booing post - all I heard was generous applause every time he ran to the bench

dont defend the guy as he is disrespecting all of us!

Big words there mate.

This is the AFL's doing not Tom Scully.

Go off your Brain at The Fat Controller if you must, as far as players on our list. Pull your head in.

I for one loved Tom's First Quarter yesterday, as i hope he did.

Scullys latest interview on SEN after the game really shoots most my confidence about him staying. A lot of people have seen simlaritys between Ablett scenario last year but I havent until then. Scully has gone from saying "I want to be a 1 club player", to "I will make a decision at the end of the year", which means instead of giving the supporters the impression we are just nutting out the contract he is now admitted he's weighing up both offers. Gone.

Exactly. What he's saying now is he's going to make a decision between $400-500k on the one hand, and $1-1.2million on the other.

Didn't read anything in that article or in his SEN radio interview about his desire to stay a Melbourne player. Nothing.

Get your heads out of the kindergarten sandpit people.

He's gone.

$1.2M and head out of the sandpit in the same post - wow !!!

hard to swallow that every other club will keep its superstars but our culture cant keep tom

thats the disappointing part, that carlton, pies, rich have good enough cultures to keep theirs

I know its reading far too much into something, but that might be the case if thiswas something in isolation and I dont think it is. Icomment upon the body language and demeanor of Scully at teh singing of the song. Is it just me or sid he look just bloody awkward there. He didnt really come across as 100% . Came across as rather mechanical, no spirit. Probably lurching at shadows, and I'll wear that but all these little indicators would have many an observer wondering.

Was almost tinged with a little of " I know something you dont"

The festival of hand wringing continues....

Scully has his own unique personality, time for us to accept that.

The more someone tells a guy like this to make a decision the less likely he will do so until he is ready.

He is going to drive the media nuts over his career by not revealing much in interviews and that should be fun to watch.

Hmmm

1/ he aint gone until he is gone

2/ Other clubs cultures - apparently Richmond are paying in excess of $700K a year to Dustin Martin to keep him, Pendles has signed a 1 year contract (nothing smacks of mercenary more than this signing) and Thomas hasnt signed at all..

This sucks..

He is one in a million.

The future doesnt look QUITE AS BRIGHT without Tom

Maybe not.. He confounds many currently for he doesnt reveal much, but honestly in his current position he wont. When he eventually settles at where ever we might see a different Scully, more open and forthcoming....not all this secret squirrel sh!t of present.

Agree. Looked like he wanted it over and done with quicksmart.

Mr Negativity strikes again.

I never cease to be amazed at your reading of things RR... is it not possible that the use of the word "decision" was not intended to mean anything? It may have been Scully simply saying that he did not want to put pen to paper until the season is done.

You are able to sit down in front of your PC and think about each word as you type it and then you have the further benefit of being able to edit what you have written if you find you might have used a better word to get your point across. Unfortunately Scully, when suddenly finding a recording device or camera thrust in his face, does not have the luxury of a dictionary or thesaurus being immediately at hand, and is unable to revisit an interview and edit what came out of his mouth.

As I said before, the only people being affected by this whole affair are people like yourself who seem to get some sort of perverse enjoyment out of pondering as to why the glass is half empty. It is certainly NOT destabilising the club (they have clearly stated their position), and as a supporter of this club for over 5 decades, it is certainly not worrying me. Nothing I say or do here will have any impact on his decision, and if he does choose to go, then I will wish him luck for his future and move on happy in the knowledge that we have a team capable of winning a premiership with or without him. I would love him to stick around, but I'm not going to lose any sleep if he doesn't.

  • DRAFT: The Next Generation

It was not long after the announcement that Melbourne's former number 1 draft pick Tom Scully was departing the club following 31 games and two relatively unremarkable seasons to join expansion team, the Greater Western Giants, on a six-year contract worth about $6 million, that a parody song based on Adele's hit "Someone Like You" surfaced on social media. The artist expressed lament over Scully's departure in song, culminating in the promise, "Never mind, we'll find someone like you," although I suspect that the undertone of bitterness in this version exceeded that of the original.

  • AFLW REPORT: Brisbane

A steamy Springfield evening set the stage for a blockbuster top-four clash between two AFLW heavyweights. Brisbane, the bookies’ favourites, hosted Melbourne at a heaving Brighton Homes Arena, with 5,022 fans packing in—the biggest crowd for a Melbourne game this season. It was the 11th meeting between these fierce rivals, with the Dees holding a narrow 6–4 edge. But while the Lions brought the chaos and roared loudest, the Demons aren’t done yet.
