Michael Evans upgraded from rookie list

Featured Replies

There's plenty of room.

Why upgrade him? we have an automatic upgrade next year for not having a second veteran again? we have like 7 out of contract and need to lose like 4 yeah??? it seems rubbish list management

yeah agree, pretty pathetic and not original

sometimes the little naughty boy in me slips out

Not at all Daisy, right up my alley - keep 'em coming ;)

god no, downgraded Harris then swapped Tarrant for Fisher

Should have waited until he had played his first two games.

It is a hard one.... i was looking at smith for his third game, dropped.... who else is there really without looking? Jacobs, would also have waited for tomorrow arvo's teams, Hibberd on his 3rd game??

Yeah there's not much. The other one I'm waiting on is Mzungu but he's probably still 2-3 away.

Good luck to young Michael. This is the one silver lining to all these injuries we get the chance to start a new career.

Yeah Smith was in my plans.

Settled for Puopolo from the hawks in defense. Been playing well and Hawks have a heap of injuries back there.

Not sure if Hibberd will continue to keep his position.

Good luck to young Evans. Thought Nicholson would have got the upgrade to replace Bail, seeing as Nicholson has been playing pretty much the same role in VFL. Hopefully he is not too far away either.

"Hunt Evans"....I dont get it ;)

He was referring to surnames...

Anyway, congrats to Mike Hunt Evans. Seems like we're good at picking up rookies.

Edit: Why trade Harris for an unproven debutant? 1. Harris has more money left in him and 2. There are better options. Smith and Hibberd are the two I'd look at. Jacobs, Puopolo, Lynch as well.

Anyway, I'm doing Toy to Hibberd, McKernan to Suckling this week. Yay for making Supercoach money :P

Notsureifserious ....

We upgrade him so we can play him.

We have three LTI's, so can upgrade 3 rookies, doesn't change anything re list management for this year or next. When Spencer and Grimes (and Fitzpatrick?) come back, any upgraded rookie can be downgraded again. It's a temporary elevation, even if it lasts the whole season.

Was referring to a post which i thought was referring to upgrading him permanently, ie. next year.... probably looking to far ahead of myself, if so apologies

Good luck to Michael. Great to see a fresh face in the team and I hope he does well.

SMACK-SMACK.

As I said else where today DC never lose your sense of humour.

I look for a DC ism every day keep up the good work.

Yep- he puts a smile on my face too.

Evans was impressive pre-season. I really do hope he goes well.

Pretty good effort to get a senior game in Round 9 off the rookie list, even if it was a lot to do with our injuries and suspensions. If you include the rookie upgrades in the draft, and all the 17yos that GC took away, you could say that he was like pick 150~ last year. A lot of rookies and high draftees never even get a game, let alone in their first year.

According to Patrick Keane:

@AFL_PKeane

Melb places J Fitzpatrick, J Grimes and J Spencer all on long-term injury list. Michael Evans upgraded from rookie list for Spencer.

I would think he will come in this week. Hopefully we unearth a young star.

All the best Evans hope you rip the Saints a new one!

Go Dees!

He reminds me of a poor man's Leigh Montagna from what I've seen. Should be exciting to watch on Saturday

What I saw of him so far made me think of Timmy Watson....i think this kid could be a ripper. While I'm at it, Scully has at times reminded me of Bobby Skilton..

maybe he should change it to Isaac Weetra

I'm still adamant that he only got a game because DB had him confused with Wona.

Hahaha great comment Rogue.

Not sure if serious, but I'm not sure that it matters - still made me laugh.

In regards to upgrading Evans permanently for next year, it is becoming tight with only Newton and MacDonald players I see as close to the chop.

Although, none of the current rules may matter, as my understanding is that the Players Association is pushing for the abolishment of the rookie list, with clubs just having that many extra senior spots. The pay for the rookies is seen as unfairly low.

The idea is to have the one national draft and it just goes longer, with each team getting more picks.

Can't remember where I read or heard it, but that's my recollection.

"Its great to see Michael "Pickles" Evans making his debut!!! "

That's right Artie.

AFLPA push to axe rookie list

Does anyone know what number he'll have on his back? The MFC website doesn't have him (and the other rookies) on the list of players.

  • AFLW REPORT: Collingwood

Expectations of a comfortable win for Narrm at Victoria Park quickly evaporated as the match turned into a tense nail-biter. After a confident start by the Demons, the Pies piled on pressure and forced red and blue supporters to hold their collective breath until after the final siren. In a frenetic, physical contest, it was Captain Kate’s clutch last quarter goal and a missed shot from Collingwood’s Grace Campbell after the siren which sealed a thrilling 4-point win. Finally, Narrm supporters could breathe easy.

  • CASEY: Williamstown

The Casey Demons issued a strong statement to the remaining teams in the VFL race with a thumping 76-point victory in their Elimination Final against Williamstown. This was the sixth consecutive win for the Demons, who stormed into the finals from a long way back with scalps including two of the teams still in flag contention. Senior Coach Taylor Whitford would have been delighted with the manner in which his team opened its finals campaign with high impact after securing the lead early in the game when Jai Culley delivered a precise pass to a lead from Noah Yze, who scored his first of seven straight goals for the day. Yze kicked his second on the quarter time siren, by which time the Demons were already in control. The youngster repeated the dose in the second term as the Seagulls were reduced to mere

Narrm time isn’t a standard concept—it’s the time within the traditional lands of Narrm, the Woiwurrung name for Melbourne. Indigenous Round runs for rounds 3 and 4 and is a powerful platform to recognise the contributions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in sport, community, and Australian culture. This week, suburban footy returns to the infamous Victoria Park as the mighty Narrm take on the Collingwood Magpies at 1:05pm Narrm time, Sunday 31 August. Come along if you can.

The Dees demolished the Saints in a comprehensive 74-pointshellacking.  We filled our boots with percentage — now a whopping 520.7% — and sit atop the AFLW ladder. Melbourne’s game plan is on fire, and the competition is officially on notice.

  • REPORT: Collingwood

It was yet another disappointing outcome in a disappointing year, with Melbourne missing the finals for the second consecutive season. Indeed, it wasn’t even close, as the Demons' tally of seven wins was less than half the number required to rank among the top eight teams in the competition. When the dust of the game settled and supporters reflected on Melbourne's  six-point defeat at the hands of close game specialists Collingwood, Max Gawn's words about his team’s unfulfilled potential rang true … well, almost.
