Newton Given Another Chance

I had high hopes for Juice 4 years ago.

Obviously the FD see something I don't

But that is what they are paid for.

Lets hope they are right.

No one was more happy than Juice when the new interchange rule was announced.

With the new rule it is unviable to play Jamar and Spenser at Spenser's current stage of development. No longer can the second lumbering ruckman be the 22nd man, to give 5 minutes of relief a quater for the number 1 ruck.

Juice Newton is one of very few players on our list capable of playing the 'Leigh Brown' back up ruck role.

Jeez Newton sucks though, really makes you understsand why the club was so keen on David Hale last year

Good post Sylvinator. As much as people may not agree with the choice he makes the most sense as an upgrade with immedizte value.

"Richmodn promotes Brad Miller to senior list"

is the byline of that article. Who the hell are Richmodn?

I can see why they went for Newton, due to his versatility and his experience. BUT i think Michael Evans is very unlucky!!! I think he has been fantastic, very hard at the ball and very slick when he has it

why oh why......?

surely he has been given enough chances?

Realistically, Evans would have a hard time squeezing into the side when other fringe dwellers in Maric and Nev Jetta have had such great preseasons.

It also puts a bit more heat on Stef Martin - perform or we'll swap you with Juice!

We're not bluffing, we'll do it!!

Good reward for Juice. Had a great year in the VFL and work very hard on his deficiencies.

Make the most of it Juice!

Your a big boy now...Start smashen those packs and running straight through blokes.

Just one thing - this is a prmoted rookie position.

He is unlikely to see any game time but he was the most likely of the unlikely.

Especially with Campbell injured.

He is like a stalker ex boyfriend who won't leave you alone

And just like said ex you're only gonna go back to them when desperate, drunk, and when all other semi viable options have left the country.

Is he ahead of Maric, Jetta or Bennell?

I think he'll still need time @ Casey to play against the seniors.

Given that he was retained on the rookie list in the first place is it that out of the blue that he got the nomination? I'll admit it is a little amusing that the Newton saga continues but heck we aren't losing that much here - the club simply values a player with some experience to fill a gap if required. The younger rookies can still develop in the mean time at Casey and we have the mid-yr nomination up our sleeve.

Versatility - he can play forward, back or ruck equally as bad?

I have seen nothing in 8 years to say that Newton can play AFL. Not one game has he been a valuable contributor. I do not understand this decision.

It is a bit like the Australian Cricket selectors - We need a spinner, so let’s pick a bloke that struggles to take wickets a state level and try and make him a batsman, rather than picking a decent batsman or bowler.

If Newton is in the side as a second ruck, we will get smashed in two positions rather than one.

The mind boggles !!!

When looking back at the disastrous end to the game, I find it a waste of time to concentrate on the final few moments when utter confusion reigned. Forget the 6-6-6 mess, the failure to mark the most dangerous man on the field, the inability to seal the game when opportunities presented themselves to Clayton Oliver, Harry Petty and Charlie Spargo, the vision of match winning players of recent weeks in Kozzy Pickett and Jake Melksham spending helpless minutes on the interchange bench and the powerlessness of seizing the opportunity to slow the tempo of the game down in those final moments.

  • CASEY: Sandringham

The Casey Demons rebounded from a sluggish start to manufacture a decisive win against Sandringham in the final showdown, culminating a quarter century of intense rivalry between the fluctuating alignments of teams affiliated with AFL clubs Melbourne and St Kilda, as the Saints and the Zebras prepare to forge independent paths in 2026. After conceding three of the first four goals of the match, the Demons went on a goal kicking rampage instigated by the winning ruck combination of Tom Campbell with 26 hitouts, 26 disposals and 13 clearances and his apprentice Will Verrall who contributed 20 hitouts. This gave first use of the ball to the likes of Jack Billings, Bayley Laurie, Riley Bonner and Koltyn Tholstrup who was impressive early. By the first break they had added seven goals and took a strong grip on the game. The Demons were well served up forward early by Mitch Hardie and, as the game progressed, Harry Sharp proved a menace with a five goal performance. Emerging young forwards Matthew Jefferson and Luker Kentfield kicked two each but the former let himself down with some poor kicking for goal.
Young draft talent Will Duursma showed the depth of his talent and looks well out of reach for Melbourne this year. Kalani White was used sparingly and had a brief but uneventful stint in the ruck.

The Demons return to the scene of the crime on Saturday to face the wooden spooners the Eagles at the Docklands. Who comes in and who goes out? Like moving deck chairs on the Titanic.

It's Game Day and there are only 5 games to go. Can the Demons find some consistency and form as they stagger towards the finish line of another uninspiring season?
