The FA rules - when are they to be introduced..?

If I'm not mistaken the free agency rules are being introduced in 2012

Thanks guys, appreciate the effort.

On Ch 9 news tonight - Bruce is training with Hawthorn - adding fuel to the rumours he will be picked up by the Hawks in the national draft.

Good for him. We gave him the chopper so we can't blame him even though many on this forum do. Let him get on with his footy career. Would have preferred another team but that's how it goes I guess.

No we did not. Cameron decided to give himself the Chopper B M

Sorry to disagree mate but even Blind Freddy could see through this smokescreen. We made NO ATTEMPT to negotiate with Bruce. It was "Take it or leave it Pal. Never mind about your 12 seasons of continuous effort for the club on and off the field."

Bruce has not nominated for the national draft, so is headed to the PSD. Obviously will nominate terms and the way it goes these days there is no doubt he will end up at the hawks.

You could call it negotiate, or call it not being bent over by a player not only trying to bend club policy but also overestimating his worth.

Made no attempt is way off the mark BM, where was the Smoke screen?? Essendon and Thompson had a smokescreen but i couldn't see one over Melbourne. Bruce was well aware of his situation & his age. He also would have known the club policy.

He was offered a one year contract as he was turning 31 during next season. No smoke screen there.

Shane Crawford might be seeing one though, as Hawthorn seem to have reneged on their policy. May it Bite them Hard.

Our policy is too rigid regarding age. Bruce was one of the FITTEST guys in the team and his form is good. No, they just looked at the calendar and said, "See you Cam!"

I agree with the FD he was a good clubman, as somebody once said "footy is a business" both win/win here, we get another kid, he gets two years.

The good thing about policy is that it is the same for everyone. For one to think they are above such rules is laughable. If you want flexibility you don't make a policy in the first place. Pretty simple

The Policy is there for a reason, and it is there for all. Yes Brucey was Fit but his disposal was not good enough for a 31 y/o to merit anything better than one year at a time.

And if it was in 2011 he might well have had another year in 2012.

Not to be, farewell and a lot of love already lost knowing he'll be in that jumper. Any smokescreen could be perhaps pointed towards Bruce and his manager.

I am sure he wasn't ever leaving us to go to Nth or Richmond. He created his own policy by not agreeing with ours.

Good luck to him, not really. (not in brown & yellow)

Is 31.

If that was the case he would've walked out weeks, or even months ago.

FFS BM!

We offered an 11 year vet $300k to stay on the effing list!

He wants to win a flag, fine.

I just wish he would come out and say that and not tacitly throw this BS about our negotiations around.

Read between the lines BM.

I for one am glad the club is making strong calls and decisions.I just hope they get it right on the way to a flag.

We are the MFC. We are the oldest club in the land. We are aiming at glory like we had in the 30's and 50's. We are a proud club.

If Cam thinks that he hasn't the balls to be part of all of that then we don't want him and we won't miss him.

I'm sick of "near enough is good enough" players that couldn't give a stuff about the MFC except to ask what the club can do for them.

Our policy is too rigid regarding age. Bruce was one of the FITTEST guys in the team and his form is good. No, they just looked at the calendar and said, "See you Cam!"

Actually, I think they looked at the calendar and said 'Sure, one year contract'.

Anyway, old news.

I'm sure what hurt Cam the most was that we were NOT EVEN PREPARED to say, " If you play well next season, we MAY look at giving you another one year contract."( No PROMISE of a further one year contract) ). They did not even contemplate that did they? if that is not like saying "one more year and you are finished' I don't know what is. No,sadly you have been shafted Cam. No doubt about it.

Well i don't know what extra information you have that I don't. I wasn't in the meeting and couldn't possibly know that. Were you?

I would say there is a LOT of doubt about it.

  • REPORT: Western Bulldogs

The next coach of the Melbourne Football Club faces the challenge of teaching his players how to win games against all comers. At times during this tumultuous season, that task has seemed daunting, made more so in light of the surprise news last week of the sacking of premiership coach Simon Goodwin. However, there were also some positive signs from yesterday’s match against the Western Bulldogs that the challenge may not be as difficult as one might think. The two sides presented a genuine football spectacle, featuring pulsating competitive play with eight lead changes throughout the afternoon, in a display befitting a finals match. The result could have gone either way and in the end, it came down to which team could produce the most desperate of acts to provide a winning result. It was the Bulldogs who had their season on the line that won out by a six point margin that fitted the game and the effort of both sides.

  • CASEY: Brisbane

The rain had been falling heavily in south east Queensland when the match began at Springfield, west of Brisbane. The teams exchanged early goals and then the Casey Demons proceeded like a house on fire in the penultimate game of the VFL season against a strong opponent in the Brisbane Lions. Sparked by strong play around the ground by seasoned players in Charlie Spargo and Jack Billings, a strong effort from Bailey Laurie and promising work from youngsters in Kynan Brown and  Koltyn Tholstrup, the Demons with multiple goal kickers firing, raced to a 27 point lead late in the opening stanza. A highlight was a wonderful goal from Laurie who brilliantly sidestepped two opponents and kicked beautifully from 45 metres out.
