Everything to play for in week 18 with a reminder that a maximum of 7 points can be attained if you can pick 3 road winners, one out! (6+1)

hi macca. i don;t follow the +1 concept (one out) what does this mean?

For the Maye vs Stafford MVP discussion.

The only other thing I’d like to know is games vs top 10 defences.

There's a bonus point on offer if you (or anyone else) happens to be the only participant to correctly tip 3 road winners

Not sure it has happened this year but over the past 3 or 4 years, the bonus point has been awarded a few times

So, effectively, this year, the bonus point on offer can make a difference ... especially with the last week of games being so difficult to find road winners

Anyway, A Happy New Year to all!

Tips, gentlemen (reminder that there are 2 games on tomorrow)

Today's game is coming down to Seahawks offense v Niners defense. I'm expecting a lot of motions from guys like Smith-Njigba, it tends to throw us.

Not going great. May as well be in a wind tunnel thanks to all the missed tackles

Not out of it, just need to get your game going. Run the ball?

seahawks defence is very good. Their pass rush is suffocating Purdy

They won't have a chance if they cant get anything going on the ground.

It's going how the Seahawks want it. Darnold doesnt have to do much, we seem caught out by all the screens they are running.

They're excellent. We're really struggling without Trent Williams in this one as they are swarming at the edge. Making us work for every inch.

Seattle's D won the game.

They have also got their run game humming the last few weeks which is helping them.

Make no mistake, we were embarrassed on national television tonight. The Seahawks defense mollywhopped us. Even without Williams and Pearsall I find it hard to believe we couldn't muster more than 3 points. I'll admit that I go hard on Kyle here a lot. This has been his best coaching season and last week he was incredible but I thought his play calling was poor tonight. I don't know why we have to telegraph exactly what we're doing on 4th down when we go for it. No hard count, no misdirection or zone read, juat a straight up shotgun with no backs in the backfield. I know Purdy can make plays with his legs but gee wiz.

This game was going to come down to Seahawks offense and Niners defense and that was where it was won. For whatever reason we had no answer for their ground game which wasn't anything crazy but sweeping runs and short screen plays. Our LBs could never come up to make the hit successfully, our D is suspect but runs in the flats and curls are not something we've given up much this year.

We should have lost this game by 20, people will talk up Darnold's game and it's was ok but he didnt have to do much and left a lot out there I thought. If you told me we'd hold them to 13 I'd have assumed we won by 20 9 times out of 10.

I'm annoyed but at the same time the 1 seed would have flattered us a lot. The wildcard is about where we are and an achievement in itself considering the injuries.

I was surprised by the lack of RPO’s called early. CMC and kittle were underused early and I thought Purdy had a chance to run a few times which would have also helped hold the linebackers more after he took off a few times.

Williams really hurt simply because he can reliably open lanes for CMC.

Really uninspiring stuff from Shanahan. The extent of his ideas was a double reverse flea flicker for a 9 yard gain.

To be honest I think they would have bossed us even with Williams, they were just ferocious. Would have been better than what we had though.

And I would love to see a world where we use both Kittle and Tonges.

  • PREVIEW: Essendon

Not long ago, the narrative surrounding Melbourne was steeped in pessimism. There was some concern among the pundits (and even some fans) that the club would arrive at the AFL’s Gather Round still winless, vulnerable to a familiar adversary in the Essendon Football Club, and facing significant scrutiny from an ever-critical media on a national stage. Things have changed.

  • REPORT: Gold Coast

Steven King astutely identified the issues that had plagued the Melbourne Football Club over the past two and a half seasons when he auditioned for the newly created coaching role. The side that had claimed the 2021 premiership had become stodgy, slow-paced, and hesitant to take the initiative.
