It always feels worse when itโ€™s your team.

Yeah read that, who is the third string QB? call Kap? What other QBs are able to be signed? Massive loss for the niners.

Baker Mayfield released by Panthers, rams should claim him. Two reasons, he is better than what we have (not hard), but stops the niners from going for him ๐Ÿฅน

Whenever l'm about to interject and stake my claim for these things I read till the end and you have me covered!

One of the best rosters around and bam two QBs down. Happy to go with Purdy this week but not sure if it will last the season. Looking at who is available: Cam Newton, Baker Mayfield, maybe 40 y.o Ryan Fitzpatrick if you can pry him away from Amazon. Not real convinced any of them will fit the system.ย

Realistically the niners need a QB who can hand the ball off and get quick passes into the flat and a few yards down field reliably. Thatโ€™s your go, Deebo, Ayuik and McCaffrey do their work from there.ย
Your D is still very good, the problem will come in Jan when you come across very good Dโ€™s but also with very good Oโ€™s. Then itโ€™s can you score enough and also keep their O off the field. Newton and Mayfield both can do this and Iโ€™d be surprised if either donโ€™t get a work out.

This is true but man I'd love to see Ayuik with a deep throwing QB. I also always felt Kyle held back because he didn't trust Jimmy throwing deep often, the only deepish plays we'd call would be throws to RBs or TEs. These are all nice to haves though, Numero uno is the underneath and shallow routes and getting it to the flat as you said.ย

Newton's running would be handy but if Kyle intends to use him the way he was using Lance between the tackles it could be a short lived experiement, the guy is banged up enough as it is. Mayfield has undeniable potential but is a turnover king. Having said all of this I agree they should get workouts.

In a perfect world Fitzpatrick would be the best stop gap, actually in a perfect world you would give us a healthy Stafford for nothing.

Rams claim Mayfield who is flying tonight to LA and likely to start Thursday night.ย
He is an upgrade on our back ups but not by much. But I did read if he signs with another team in the off season we can get a compensation pick. And as our first pick goes to Detroit there is no reason to not try and win.ย

I stand by what I said but there is a hint of jealousy now that this has happenedย ๐Ÿ˜

  • PREVIEW: St. Kilda

The media has performed a complete reversal in its coverage of the Melbourne Football Club over the past month and a half. Having endured intense criticism from all quarters in the press, which continually identified new avenues for scrutiny of every aspect, both on and off the field, and prematurely speculated about the departures of coaches, players, officials, and various employees from a club that lost its first five matches and appeared out of finals contention, the narrative has suddenly shifted to one of unbridled optimism.ย  The Demons have won five of their last six matches, positioning themselves just one game (and a considerable amount of percentage) outside the top eight at the halfway mark of the season. They still trail the primary contenders and remain far from assured of a finals berth.

  • REPORT: Sydney

A few weeks ago, I visited a fellow Melbourne Football Club supporter in hospital, and our conversation inevitably shifted from his health diagnosis to the well-being of our football team. Like him, Melbourne had faced challenges in recent months, but an intervention - in his case, surgery, and in the team's case, a change in game style - had brought about much improvement.ย  The team's professionals had altered its game style from a pedestrian and slow-moving approach, which yielded an average of merely 60 points for five winless games, to a faster and more direct style. This shift led to three consecutive wins and a strong competitive effort in the fourth game, albeit with a tired finish against Hawthorn, a strong premiership contender.ย  As we discussed our team's recent health improvement, I shared my observations on the changes within the team, including the refreshed style, the introduction of new young talent, such as rising stars Caleb Windsor, Harvey Langford, and Xavier Lindsay, and the rebranding of Kozzy Pickett from a small forward to a midfield machine who can still get among the goals. I also highlighted the dominance of captain Max Gawn in the ruck and the resurgence in form in a big way of midfield superstars Christian Petracca and Clayton Oliver.ย

  • POSTGAME: Sydney

The Demons controlled the contest from the outset, though inaccurate kicking kept the Swans in the game until half time. But after the break, Melbourne put on the jets and blew Sydney away and the demolition job was complete.
