What's with the lack of responses here??????

One of my fav players purely because of the way he continually puts his body on the line despite his HORRID run of injuries!!!

I feel he is just starting to grasp the gameplan down back and is beginning to gel quite well with the others.

Here's hoping for an injury-free 2011 and beyond for the 2004 Rising Star winner!

The FD obviously love him - appears too slow and too small - must be "the General" out there.

Too slow... yes he is slow but as the season went on he found his feet as a player who doesn't NEED speed. He is a fantastic mark and the coaching staff did well in making Jared's role that of being third man up and where he didn't need to use pace. He'd be right back in defense playing contested footy because that's where his best footy comes out.

The General? Definitely. :)

Improved as the year went on. Kicking out of defense is a worry though.

Yep - saw a couple of blunders of his. The worst being against Essendon was it?? Where Neagle intercepted and kicked the first goal? Ugh!

At the start of the year I thought Riv would struggle to hold his place in our best 22, but I'm very happy to be proven wrong. His courage, marking and spoiling (and apparently his leadership) are great attributes, but I still worry about his kicking, and the ease with which he can be left behind on a quick lead by opposition forwards.

Haha after reading what you said I remembered this line from the MFC website from the article on the Dees Shanghai Trip (Day No. 3).

Matt Burgan writes regarding training high up on a mountain on some tennis courts:

"With the court perched up on the mountain, it required a higher than average size fence. Fortunately, no Sherrins bounced over and rolled down the mountain never to be seen again.

But it’s understood one Jared Rivers’ skewed kick came extremely close (according to one source)!"

    REDEEMING by Meggs

    It was such a balmy spring evening for this mid-week BNCA Pink Lady match at our favourite venue Ikon Park between two teams that had not won a game since round one.   After last week’s insipid bombing, the DeeArmy banner correctly deemanded that our players ‘go in hard, go in strong, go in fighting’, and girl they sure did!   The first quarter goals by Alyssa Bannan and Alyssia Pisano were simply stunning, and it was 4 goals to nil by half-time.   Kudos to Mick Stinear.

    Last Saturday’s crushing loss to Fremantle, after being three goals ahead at three quarter time, should be motivation enough to bounce back for this very winnable Round 5 clash at Windy Hill.     Fremantle hosted the Demons on a sunny 20-degree Saturdayafternoon winning the toss and electing to defend in the first quarter against the 3-goal breeze favouring the Parry Street end. There was method here, as this would give the comeback queens, the Dockers, last use of the breeze. The Melbourne Coach had promised an improved performance, and we did start better than previous weeks, winning the ball out of the middle, using the breeze advantage and connecting to the forwards.

    Calling all fit players. Expect every available Melbourne player to board the Virgin cross-continent flight to Perth for this Round 4 clash on Saturday afternoon at Fremantle Oval.     With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.
