Bruce has made a short term decision. For him, he needs to jag a premiership in the next year or two. If he doesn't, he has killed any legacy he would otherwise have enjoyed at the MFC.

Strikes me as a bit of a tool - and probably also a poor decision.

Personally, I am incredibly glad he will be gone.

Never have I had to bite my tongue so much over one of our players.

And still I was a great critic of his!

Hospital handpasses, helicopter kicks to disadvantage, short steps when contact was imminent, choosing poor options, not standing up when he should have been one of the senior players showing the inexperienced kids the way, soft efforts...

He actually represented a lot of the things that I find unacceptable in a seasoned AFL player.

Hrmm

Worried that he wasn't guaranteed a long-term future at the Dees but understands it's a year-to-year proposition.

Mmmm.

#17 for Hawthorn rightfully thanked the MFC.

See ya.

Bruce is on foxsports news now live - what a tool, pure arrogance, almost treatment Melbourne as if it is irrelevant and has no part of him. Pathetic!

Whilst I'm glad he is gone, I cannot agree with this point of view.

He has left out of insecurity rather than arrogance.

And in my opinion his insecurity is well-founded.

Hawthorn in recent times have been closer to the premiership window, yet clearly lack a few players to keep them there.

Bruce can comfortably slot into the side and not be too concerned about competition for his spot.

The hawks have some super players, but I think lack some decent role-players and Bruce has always been a good one of these, as opposed to the superstar we all wanted him to be.

Now Bruce is caught in a bind of loyalty to his new club, mixed feelings about his departure and a desire to look like he has done an honourable thing.

The guy needs to build a few bridges and get over some stuff.

I think Bruce is a True professional,,, thinks with his head, of his bank account first,,, rather than his heart, & Team Principles.

I'm so glad I knew Robbie Flower, & a Golden Era of loyal team footballers. Beware! The free agency.

Good post. I actually feel more sorrow in regard to Cam than anger. It's a pity he didn't have the self-belief and confidence to back himself in his twilight years.

The Facts

He will be paid less at Hawthorn. (In the press)

There is no guarantee for more than one year.

He agrees Melbourne has the right to determine its future.

He obviously felt he was not part of that long term plan. (Melbourne has communicated its youth policy for many years)

He has not said one bad word against the Club!

Supporters think of this game as a sport!

It is a multi million dollar business!

Melbourne FC have the right and the need to determine the direction their business has to follow!

If as an employee of any other company an employee decided to move because he felt his opportunities were better, would people complain?

Obviously told he was not part of the company's long term plans. ie only a one year deal with no trigger points!

He goes to a company who feels will benefit them. Why would you not support him.

Yes we get very emotional but in reality it is just one employee deciding he has more opportunity at another company.

What other worker does not have that right?

Loyalty died when it only became one way!

Ask Yze, White, Robbo etc about loyalty and what they would do given their choices when they were courted by others then if the knew what would happen to them?

The way Macca and Bruce have left will certainly have a lasting effect on the present playing group.

Many posters on this sight applaud the Club for their stance.

When the next one goes ,AND THEY CERTAINLY WILL,for more certainty,

Should the club not achieve its dream Questions may have to be asked!

Just watched the presser and could not help but think that Brucey and his rug will be right at home at the Hawks. Can swap rug maintenance tips with Guerra and Hale.

I am quite confident that our list is in much better shape than the Hawks. Bruce and Cheney both saw more opportunities for them at Hawthorn. The former a 31 year old fearing he would be pushed out of the team by more youthful talent and the later seeing too many players ahead of him and a spot in the best 22. Indicative for mine of a Hawthorn list that has some elite players but overall does not bat very deep.

I look forward to Brucey showing his normal lack of poise and errant disposal in the Hawks jumper in 2011.

Do you think?

I think he has seen the writing on the wall and departed in a timely fashion.

The only "ugly" aspects of his departure were the timing, his clumsy justification and the fact he won't be known as a career MFC player.

His time at MFC would have been up a lot sooner than I think it will at Hawthorn, barring injury.

with that attitude the club will be no more than a retirement village, that finishes no better than 10th each year.

Enough being Thrashed in September...I want Flags.

Cameron should have backed himself to succeed in this club..sorry we raised the bar.

The only question that'll be asked is why the hell it took us so long to wake up and get ruthless as a footy club, and it'll be asked among us loyal fans as our boys go up to collect their premiership medallions in 2014/15.

If we wanted him we would've kept him.

I liked the SEN interview and how Franc Leach called him on his claim that it was good to be at a new club because it renewed his enthusiasm, when he'd already been at Melb, a club brimming with eager talented youngsters and bound for finals in the very near future.

Brucey didn't have much to say.

You like many have missed the point!!!

It is NOT a sport.

It is a BUSINESS!!

If you felt you could do better in another company would you stay if you were feeling devalued?

When Scully or Frawley or ? leaves because the bar was raised higher at GWS 850 bigones, maybe you will finally see it

as it really is!!

A BUSINESS !! Where workers get the best they can and so they should!!

Best of luck brucey but your time was close to up.

Don't understand all the ill will about his move but will not miss the disposal.

You seem peeved that I'm indifferent to cam going. He was offered the chance for a year at a time, with the club he started with. That to me is a two way street.

He chose to run to others. I'm glad. Now I can have a little fun, as I don't think, that as an AFL footballer, he was the most physically courageous & committed to the contact. As an athlete getting his body up, he was very good. He should have been a marathon runner.

Viva la Dees.

No Brucey was not confident he could raise the Bar. I know business, & yes football is a business that gets harder every year. Cameron does not trust his ability deep down.
