2010 Player Review - # 14 Lynden Dunn

It was entirely unexpected from my POV.

He was one of my predictions to take a next step in 2010.

I think my others were Frawley and Maric.

He was a sensation and he has some mongrel about him. I'd like to see him job a few more backmen, but they certainly know he's there now. I can't believe the transformation. I swear, at the start of the year I thought he was an A-grade spud. I remember this giant run-up he took for a long shot on goal against North. You just knew it was going to end in tears and it did. That player seems like he's from the moon compared to Dunn in the second half of the year. I love him -- and his moustache.

He did well in the second half of 2011.

He did extremely well by his appalling standards before that.

Always wary of 'contract' years; we all try a little harder than usual when our livelihood is on the line.

At risk of showing a bit of MFCSS here, but I will say that there is a spot for him in our forward line if he wants it.

Agree. He needs to back it up again in 2011.

Dunn is not a CHF. He played a defensive role on damaging HBFs and tried to make them accountable. That isn't the stuff CHFs are made of.

Good stuff Dunny, for a while there you were kicking points that JUST missed by a whisker. But your luck changed cause you stuck at it.

Next year the club needs you do that for the whole season, could be a fantastic 50-60 goal kicker, if LJ can kick the same amount on the other flank-look out AFL.

Dunn's transformation in the second half of the year reminds me of Col Sylvia last year. I remember being at the 2009 Hawks V Dees match when Col picked up 3 votes in a losing team. For the first time I thought Col looked really composed and had time to execute his skills. After that match he has been a different player, it was the psychological transformation we were all hoping for. At the start of the season I thought Dunn was showing the same signs, but he kept missing shots on goal which I reckon kept his confidence down. He gets dropped (a bit harsh I thought) and then kicks 8 goals in a monsoon at Casey, then comes back, starts kicking goals from all over the field, finally gets his confidence up and...grows a mo...

I think Dunn definately has a spot in the forward six round 1 next year

I don't think it's a question of whether Dunn will make it as a professional footballer, I think he has. The question is whether he will be good enough to keep his spot in our forward line that will have a number of challengers for his position in Bate, Bennell, Tapscott and pick #12 in this year's draft (if they pick a forward).

As for whether he can tear it up or not, watch the second quarter against North in Round 22, he is unbelievable...and BTs commentary about his Mo is pretty funny...I'm more excited by others in the forward line, but I'm definately looking forward to seeing what Dunn can go next year and beyond.
