"Brisbane is understood to be entertaining trading midfielder Daniel Rich to West Coast for the Eagles' No. 1 pick in the national draft - the No. 4 pick overall."

Should we meet with the Lions? I'm tipping pick 12 wont do it, so who do we lose?

Edit: Changed our pick to it's correct position (to keep G2W happy!).

Neither can I.

But he's 20 and filled out massively already. Won't gain any more pace than what he's got already. There's not much upside IMO.

Good player though.

Rich has peaked. Won't get any better than his '09 form.

Eagles won't throw away their pick. They're just floating it around.

The word is That Rich is a beautiful kick, but he doesn't get the Ball...That's why the Bears have put him up as a possibility....They are a club in Serious Trouble Brisbane.

The question mark about Rich has always been his upside. That's why he slipped to pick 7.

If the rumor is true, the Lions are is serious trouble; loyalty/player relations aint on the page at Brisbane. If they don't trade him, he may well walk when he can.

Then again, he may want a trade such is the state of Brisbane.

Love it when people make the most ridiculous statements backed by no knowledge of the subject they speak about.

Any player can improve their speed... I hope you understand that. Do you think sprinters end their careers after they receive

The kid was taken in the same year as Watts and some are saying that he has peeked...

Brainless.

I doubt it will happen, but i would love to see Daniel Rich Running through the center of the MCG for the Demons.

Brisbane is not a place to nurture any talent at the moment. Someone will get a bargain if he is let go.

Is he a trade option? We have absolutely no idea. One thing can be sure though, our FD would know, and I would like to think that if it is true, they are seriously considering our options. While he may not have as much upside as say Tom Scully, he is still a very good footballer, and if we are going to chase someone this trade period, I would rather him than Mundy.

Personally, I think if we are going to use our first pick as trade bait, it will be for a Full Forward, unless we could get the Big Q for a steal (very late pick/PSD pick).

Rich would be a perfect addition to our midfield, hard, inside player who can hit a forward target like no-one else his age.

Ouch.

I know players can improve their speed. But Rich?

I'm just saying I think it'll be hard for him to top his sensational 2009.

Just my opinion. No need to fly off the handle over it.

Yeah but we're about to enter a phase where we're going to reduce the No of interchanges, as its going to make the game to Monocultured.

Less interchange players may well bring back the advantage of strong endurance players. But you'll still need to be able to win your own footy & use it.

If they are contemplating trading Rich he must be homesick or does'nt get along with Voss. The Lion's would be absolutely crazy to trade him just for the heck of gaining Pick 4 from West Coast.

If I were West Coast I would give up Pick 4 in a flash!!!

Left footers are GOLD...

If Rich was open to a trade to Melbourne. Pick 12 and a player probably would'nt do it!

So I would suggest we trade possibly Morton and an exchange of 2nd round draft picks to the Eagles for Pick 4. Then on trade Pick 4 to the Lions for Rich. Heck! Morton and a player.

Do I rate Morton! Yes and No. I think he will be a good player in time. But no Adam Goodes! Rich is line breaking with an exceptional kick and tackles well. Will be a punishing great player. His average season after a great first season is the least of my worries.

2nd year yips is nothing unusual.

I must agree with some of the sentiment, Rich fell to number 7 because his ceiling just isn't nearly as high as it should be.

That said - killer left boot, quality midfield

Downside - Daniel Rick a la '09, '10,

Upside - Even better footballer

If it is at all possible without breaking the bank do it.

I get the feeling Rich's value has dropped, to probably somewhere around 20ish. Maric + our 2nd Rnd-er.

I dont think your deal would be likely. Far off I think!

I would trade Pick 12 & Maric. They would want Bennell or Jetta though.

I would be very confident Pick 12 & Bennel would get it done. Prefer to keep Bennell though. Maric is Victorian and would be unlikely to want to go West. Maric would be my first preferece to trade out of a smaller players.

Maric to Essendon for Alwyn Davey.

Pick 12 & Alwyn Davey to West Coast for Pick 4. They get the small player they need.

I wouldn't use Pick 12 for Rich now. And I wouldn't trade out Bennell, or Jetta. Both, IMO will be very good players.

I'd like Rich with us, but not critical.

*However I'd like Jayden Pitt, or someone of his Ilk.

Rich would be a decent addition, no doubt. However, I think the FD would be content with what they have to work with.

It's not likely that Rich would be interested anyway.

    EASYBEATS by Meggs

A beautiful sunny Friday afternoon, with a light breeze and a strong Windy Hill crowd set the scene, inviting one team to seize the day and take the important four points on offer. For the Demons it was not a good Friday, easily beaten by an all-time largest losing margin of 65 points.   Essendon threw themselves into action today, winning most of the contests and had three early goals with Daria Bannister on fire.  In contrast the Demons were dropping marks, hesitant in close and comm

    DEFUSE THE BOMBERS by Meggs

Last Saturday’s crushing loss to Fremantle, after being three goals ahead at three quarter time, should be motivation enough to bounce back for this very winnable Round 5 clash at Windy Hill. A first-time venue for the Melbourne AFLW team, this should be a familiar suburban, windy, footy environment for the players.   Essendon were brave and competitive last week against ladder leader Adelaide at Sturt’s home ground. A familiar name, Maddison Gay, was the Bombers best player with

    BLOW THE SIREN by Meggs

Fremantle hosted the Demons on a sunny 20-degree Saturdayafternoon winning the toss and electing to defend in the first quarter against the 3-goal breeze favouring the Parry Street end. There was method here, as this would give the comeback queens, the Dockers, last use of the breeze. The Melbourne Coach had promised an improved performance, and we did start better than previous weeks, winning the ball out of the middle, using the breeze advantage and connecting to the forwards.

    GETAWAY by Meggs

Calling all fit players. Expect every available Melbourne player to board the Virgin cross-continent flight to Perth for this Round 4 clash on Saturday afternoon at Fremantle Oval. It promises to be keenly contested, though Fremantle is the bookies clear favourite.  If we lose, finals could be remoter than Rottnest Island especially following on from the Dees 50-point dismantlement by North Melbourne last Sunday.  There are 8 remaining matches, over the next 7 weeks.  To Meggs’

    DRUBBING by Meggs

With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.

    GARNER STRENGTH by Meggs

In keeping with our tough draw theme, Week 3 sees Melbourne take on flag favourites, North Melbourne, at Casey Fields this Sunday at 1:05pm.  The weather forecast looks dry, a coolish 14 degrees and will be characteristically gusty.  Remember when Casey Fields was considered our fortress?  The Demons have lost two of their past three matches at the Field of Dreams, so opposition teams commute down the Princes Highway with more optimism these days.  The Dees held the highe

    ALLY’S FIELDS by Meggs

It was a sunny morning at Casey Fields, as Demon supporters young and old formed a guard of honour for fan favourite and 50-gamer Alyssa Bannan.  Banno’s banner stated the speedster was the ‘fastest 50 games’ by an AFLW player ever.   For Dees supporters, today was not our day and unfortunately not for Banno either. A couple of opportunities emerged for our number 6 but alas there was no sizzle.   Brisbane atoned for last week’s record loss to North Melbourne, comprehensively out

    GOOD MORNING by Meggs

If you are driving or training it to Cranbourne on Saturday, don’t forget to set your alarm clock. The Melbourne Demons play the reigning premiers Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields this Saturday, with the bounce of the ball at 11:05am.  Yes, that’s AM.   The AFLW fixture shows deference to the AFL men’s finals games.  So, for the men it’s good afternoon and good evening and for the women it’s good morning.     The Lions were wounded last week by 44 points, their highest ever los

    HORE ON FIRE by Meggs

The 40,000 seat $319 million redeveloped Kardinia Park Stadium was nowhere near capacity last night but the strong, noisy contingent of Melbourne supporters led by the DeeArmy journeyed to Geelong to witness a high-quality battle between two of the best teams in AFLW.   The Cats entered the arena to the blasting sounds of Zombie Nation and made a hot start kicking the first 2 goals. They brought tremendous forward half pressure, and our newly renovated defensive unit looked shaky.
