David Hale

Most FF don't rack up disposals like midfielders.

In Hale's case that includes goals.

what makes me hopeful is the quotes coming from Prendergast indicate we are not desperate for any player. Desperation is what will lead us to being ripped off.

If we get Hale for a fair price... great. If we miss out bc some other club offers something we can't match... that's ok too. We do have an All Australian ruckman, and a forward line consisting of Watts, Jurrah, Pettard, Green, Wona and Sylvia... we'll survive without Hale very easily.

If we give more than pick 32 i'd be dissapointed

So one comment from that hack Hutchinson puts everyone here into 17 pages of lather? And we all cast aspersions on the competence of the FD?

well.... it is the off season !! lol I dont hink many necessarily take Hutchy's comment as gospel but look upon it as a point for starting comparisons of worth etc.

I would tend to feel with the recent efforts of the FD in mind these past years that many are more than assured the FD will do its utmost to secure a fair deal for a player it regards as more than handy to us going forward.

Hale's going to be a role player not a world-beater and our trade offer is valued at this. A picks in the early 30s is hardly premium. If we add a 1st round swap it'll be because BP thinks this draft is very even through that area and we're likely to still get a player we want. Posters are carrying on like we're giving away 2 first rounders.

We've got a dozen recently drafted young players who have hardly played and currently aren't in my best 22:

Gysberts, Maric, Cheney, McNamara, Tapscott, Gawn, Jetta, Spencer, Bail, Blease, Strauss, Fitzpatrick

Where does this idea that a discussion on the merits of recruiting David Hale translates to a lack of faith in the football department come from?

We're merely talking about what our observations of the player are, whether he's suitable for a Demon team about to move back into the top eight and what we think he's worth. I don't think anyone has said "I know better than the people in charge."

Personally, I enjoy reading multiple opinions based on multiple perspectives. Yes, some people are frothing at their virtual mouth, but I think it's mostly been 17 pages of pretty good debate rather than "lather".

I guess the other alternative is to close down football forums entirely because "the club knows what they're doing" mandatorily trumps every single other opinion.

What self-righteous indulgence!

I'm neck deep in this thread but lather it has been and plenty of posters have made a statement similar to: 'if the FD made this deal, they're mad!'

That is 'casting aspersions.'

And we can have our forums, but we also have to put up with other posters coming on and saying 'you're all a bunch of wankers.'

What? Self-righteous? Have you got a good handle on the definition of that word? I just said I prefer more perspectives, not less.

The vast majority of posts have tooed and froed about what Hale offers, what he might be worth and whether he's worth having at the Demons. Very very few have talked about the FD as incompetent, and several have praised how they've performed in the last few years.

Mate , no more indulgent than yourself either . We all "indulge" we are all opionated otherwise we'd sit back and say nothing and this forum wouldn't function nor indeed exist !

Now ... back to the star of this show, Hale. It's been mentioned here and there the clubs been interested for a while, indeed possibly even 3rd party fishing expeditions may have taken place. Was it his bag against us that raised an eyebrow or have we (mfc) had a passing interest far longer, possibly since early murmurings of Arden discontent surfaced . I seem to recall some posters mentioned him this time last year. Is this some sort of slow cooker deal?

This is the line I don't like.

No-one is saying that you cannot comment on the actions of the FD, but to put this line above in when someone comments on your comments is infuriating.

And it is self-righteous.

I should know...

According to Twitter, "NM holding out for second round pick for Hale. Demons more likely to provide it, Hawthorn with priorities elsewhere."

I'm sure it's boredom and footy withdrawals, but seriously, 17 pages on D. Hale? Never has so much been said about a possible trade since C. Moneybags Judd.

And to whoever compared this to the St Kilda trade of last year, please!

Ball was an experienced player and a key midfielder, and last year's draft wasn't getting the shite kicked out of it by Gold Coast. We're looking at trading draft places, when our list is already full of first round starts in the making. And maybe we'll trade a fringe player, but we won't be losing key members of our starting 18, and we won't be trading in bad characters who'll end up on rape charges (you'd hope).

Our club has done little wrong in the last three years. Don't see why they'd start screwing up now.

P.S.- Leigh Brown was very important to Collingwood this year, and he sucks a hell of a lot more than Hale probably could/will.

Fair obsrvation. I tend to agree with all of it.

Thats not what the people IMO, are concerned about. Did Adelaide give their 1st Rnd pick for Tambling?

No, they gave up their Bock compensation pick (end of first round) AND a third rounder.

What, as the new forward coach, to coach Hale, I presume'. At least Meeson collected footy's & coached the kids, what will Hale be good for,,, calling Cabs after functions.

Or doing rain dances over Summer. :)

You make me laugh mate-- possibly true.Just hope we don't give up any change to our first draft pick for him- if we do we are very stupid.

All this self indulgent twaddle and hypocrisy.

I'm sick of it.

Anyone else who has had enough, come join me on the thread I'm about to start -

Well go and twiddle your fingers pal- or leave if you can't cope.

*cough*

(for anyone who has had the misfortune of witnessing Sam Newman's chagrin-inducing attempts at forming an new catchphrase...)

My post wasn't about someone commenting on my comment. (I enjoy it when my opinion gets questioned.) It was about the general idea that robust discussion equates to some kind of anti-FD sentiment.

I don't think we're in a lather at all. We're really interested in how Melbourne intends to complement its list and David Hale is clearly their number one target at the moment. I'm not surprised the thread has reached 17 pages and I'm not sure it's been particularly difficult to pass over the sillier posts and get straight back to the considered, intelligent ones. There've been heaps.

Well go and twiddle your fingers pal- or leave if you can't cope.

And you're the cherry on top johnny boy!

Oblivious... :) :) :) you make me want to use emoticons

I fear that may be over the heads of quite a few.

Nicely done as usual.

What a strange response to AW's post rpfc

Did you get out of bed on the wrong side this morning?

Not even worth debating

So one comment from that hack Hutchinson puts everyone here into 17 pages of lather? And we all cast aspersions on the competence of the FD?

I don't think you get it.

We do trust the FD. But I'd say, that many of the membership have sent a loud message to the FD, that we do not want to overspend on this 'player'.

I think the club has heard that message, & I'm sure they are just a tiny bit more cautious now.

Lets hope we can do it our way.

The whole can be greater than the sum of the parts. With Hale it's not just his raw football output - it's what he offers to the team - Jamar in the ruck and going forward, less defensive pressure on Watts and Jurrah, creation of crumbing goals, a target for midfielders under pressure. Kosi cops a lot of flak but clearly the Saints FD rate him - they just offered him a new 2 yaer deal - they kick a lot of crumbing goals and Riewoldt spends a lot of time in and out of the forward 50 - Kosi adds a lot of structural intangibles to their set-up.

I think the club has heard that message, & I'm sure they are just a tiny bit more cautious now.

Lets hope we can do it our way.

You must be joking ... surely.

Wow. Really?

Now we're delving into self-indulgent fantasies.

  • AFLW REPORT: Richmond

A glorious sunny afternoon with a typically strong Casey Fields breeze favouring the city end greeted this round four clash of the undefeated Narrm against the winless Tigers. Pre-match, the teams entered the ground through the Deearmy’s inclusive banner—"Narrm Football Weaving Communities Together and then Warumungu/Yawuru woman and Fox Boundary Rider, Megan Waters, gave the official acknowledgement of country. Any concerns that Collingwood’s strategy of last week to discombobulate the Dees would be replicated by Ryan Ferguson and his Tigers evaporated in the second quarter when Richmond failed to use the wind advantage and Narrm scored three unanswered goals.

The late-season run of Casey wins was broken in their first semifinal against Frankston in a heartbreaking end at Kinetic Stadium on Saturday night that in many respects reflected their entire season. When they were bad, they committed all of the football transgressions, including poor disposal, indiscipline, an inability to exert pressure, and some terrible decision-making, as exemplified by the period in the game when they conceded nine unanswered goals from early in the second quarter until halfway through the third term. You rarely win when you do this.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Richmond

Round four kicks off early Saturday afternoon at Casey Fields, as the mighty Narrm host the winless Richmond Tigers in the second week of Indigenous Round celebrations. With ideal footy conditions forecast—20 degrees, overcast skies, and a gentle breeze — expect a fast-paced contest. Narrm enters with momentum and a dangerous forward line, while Richmond is still searching for its first win. With key injuries on both sides and pride on the line, this clash promises plenty.

  • AFLW REPORT: Collingwood

Expectations of a comfortable win for Narrm at Victoria Park quickly evaporated as the match turned into a tense nail-biter. After a confident start by the Demons, the Pies piled on pressure and forced red and blue supporters to hold their collective breath until after the final siren. In a frenetic, physical contest, it was Captain Kate’s clutch last quarter goal and a missed shot from Collingwood’s Grace Campbell after the siren which sealed a thrilling 4-point win. Finally, Narrm supporters could breathe easy.

  • CASEY: Williamstown

The Casey Demons issued a strong statement to the remaining teams in the VFL race with a thumping 76-point victory in their Elimination Final against Williamstown. This was the sixth consecutive win for the Demons, who stormed into the finals from a long way back with scalps including two of the teams still in flag contention. Senior Coach Taylor Whitford would have been delighted with the manner in which his team opened its finals campaign with high impact after securing the lead early in the game when Jai Culley delivered a precise pass to a lead from Noah Yze, who scored his first of seven straight goals for the day. Yze kicked his second on the quarter time siren, by which time the Demons were already in control. The youngster repeated the dose in the second term as the Seagulls were reduced to mere

Narrm time isn’t a standard concept—it’s the time within the traditional lands of Narrm, the Woiwurrung name for Melbourne. Indigenous Round runs for rounds 3 and 4 and is a powerful platform to recognise the contributions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in sport, community, and Australian culture. This week, suburban footy returns to the infamous Victoria Park as the mighty Narrm take on the Collingwood Magpies at 1:05pm Narrm time, Sunday 31 August. Come along if you can.
