Demons in the West

Just got home from the Western Demons function. More than 300 supporters there, coaches & players mingled & involved the kids. Each table had a player for a while & then they rotated. Beamer was at our table first, just a great guy, then Joel Macdonald (ditto), then Bailey who was fabulous. Was great to hear him talk about coaching from the bench, the new training centre. Then he did a general question session, spoke v. highly of Jack Watts as an engaging guy, though v. competitive. Jack was quite a star tonight, a real personality, great w. the little kids. (He has a cut over one eye from training). This team is something to be proud of!

Just wondering if Kyle Cheney made the trip as the emergency player.

Maric had the role last week and you wouldn't think he'd have it two weeks in a row. Yo

I wouldn't take Warnock as an emergency so my guess is Cheney.

Forgot to say that Bailey said we had a chance tomorrow because we have a couple of "elite athletes" (Bail & Watts, I think) who will be able to catch out some underdone Dockers, brought back too soon. Will coach from the bench again because, even though he sacrifices the overview of the play, he feels he needs to speak one on one with the kids. If they've mucked up he'll more often than not offer encouragement.

Warnock & Maric both played for Casey today.

Yes, it was a great night. The players were happy to mingle and do autographs etc. One guy paid $1900 to sit on the coaching bench next to Chris Connolly for the Freo game. A keen Demon supporter and very rich no doubt. They tried to auction Ron Barassi's jumper but it was passed in at $ 1000. Shane Woewoden was there with his young son ( In Demons colours). Father /Son rule one day? Woey's jumper was passed in at auction at $850. A few of the players I spoke to reckoned that a win over Freo was on the cards. Guess we will have to wait and see. Bailey spoke forcefully and succinctly about our future hinting that our appearance near the top was getting closer and closer. Said it was a great honour to be associated with a great club like Melbourne. He didn't really answer the question about Junior playing next year but said that he was a terrific leader at the club. He also implied that Gold Coast would have to battle hard to pinch any of our players. Also that other clubs were going to make things difficult for the fledgling side. The way he spoke made one realise how he got the coaching job over others. BTW the Western Demons award for our best player V the Weagles was won by Mr Moloney. Gee, he looked as tough as a mallee bull. Ken Melville and Trevor Johnson from the mighty '50's were there.

Bump.....

Do the Western Demons still meet at The Paddington in Mount Hawthorn on game day? I'm moving to the area soon and noticed they sponsor the Western Demons.

Much love,

Ethan Tremblay,

That's some "bump' Ethan.

I think it would register on the Richter scale!

    THE BLOW by Whispering Jack

Narrm’s finals prospects took a crushing blow after the team’s insipid performance at Optus Stadium against a confident Waaljit Marawar in the first of its Doug Nicholls Round outings for 2024.  I use the description “crushing blow” advisedly because, although the season is not yet at it’s halfway mark, the Demons have now failed abysmally in two of their games against teams currently occupying bottom eight places on the ladder.  The manner in which these losing games were played out w

HALF FULL by KC from Casey

It was a case of the Casey Demons going into a game with a glass half full in their match up against the Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields on Saturday. As the list of injured and unavailable AFL and VFL listed players continues to grow and with Melbourne taking all three emergencies to Perth for the weekend on a “just in case” basis, its little brother was always destined to struggle. Casey was left with only eight AFL listed players from who to select their team but only two - an out-of-form

GAMEDAY: Rd 10 vs West Coast

It's Game Day and the Demons have returned to the site of their drought breaking Premiership to take on the West Coast Eagles in what could very well be a danger game for Narrm at Optus Stadium. A win and a percentage boost will keep the Dees in top four contention whilst a loss will cast doubt on the Dees flag credentials and bring them back to the pack fighting for a spot in the 8 as we fast approach the halfway point of the season.

    WARNING by William from Waalitj

As a long term resident of Waalitj Marawar, I am moved to warn my fellow Narrm fans that a  danger game awaits. The locals are no longer the easybeats who stumbled, fumbled and bumbled their way to the good fortune of gathering the number one draft pick and a generational player in Harley Reid last year. They are definitely better than they were then.   Young Harley has already proven his worth with some stellar performances for a first year kid playing among men. He’s taken hangers, k

OVER YET? by KC from Casey

The Friday evening rush hour clash of two of the VFL’s 2024 minnows, Carlton and the Casey Demons was excruciatingly painful to watch, even if it was for the most part a close encounter. I suppose that since the game had to produce a result (a tie would have done the game some justice), the four points that went to Casey with the win, were fully justified because they went to the best team. In that respect, my opinion is based on the fact that the Blues were a lopsided combination that had
