Complete forward set up

I don't think we can underestimate the significance of our first win in six matches coinciding with the arrival of our complete forward setup this year. Although Jurrah did not dominate the game as he does sometimes, his presence freed up Green and Watts and gave them more space. He ispotentially such a dangerous player, and extremely difficult to match up on, he therefore demands one of the best backs.

I suggest if we had this set up earlier in the season we would have won at least three more games and have a great chance for the eight. It also goes well for our remaining games, and have big chance against Freo this week.

I think that the Forward line setup of

Sylvia - Bate - Watts

Bennell - Green - Jurrah

Works very very well.

Add Dunn and Pettard as defensive forwards rotating through releasing Sylvia and Green for runs in the midfield and it becomes extremely potent as the kids start to get more experience.

It certainly makes a world of difference when opposition defences have more to worry about. Agree that it assisted with our score yesterday and we looked threatening on most entries.

Bennell IMO has so much upside to him, just needs to get involved a bit more which will come. He is so very clean, in wet and dry weather. If they kept a stat on half volley collects Jimmy would be right up there. The upside with him is that I see him becoming another 'on ball' half forward type that can rotate with the likes of Sylvia, Green even a Tapscott looking further ahead. Bit of a way to go but reckon he has a lot going for him.

Will be nice to see the forward line kept together for the remainder of the year and get that continuity of game time together.

Yesterday was the most talented forwardline we've had all year.

Bate - Watts - Sylvia

Jurrah - Green- Bennell

That's TALENT, not just deadwood we've thrown up forward in desperation.

It made a huge difference, but we still lost the inside 50 count, which tells me that a lot of our preceived forwardline issues are actually midfield related. We have a good conversation rate from inside 50s, but we just don't get it in there enough.

If we can find a really awesome forward pocket (can we clone Davey?), our forward set up will be near complete. Potentially the only other missing piece is a genuinely huge key forward (Bazza Hall style).

Bate, Watts as the mobile talls

Pettard, Sylvia, Jurrah, Green as a the medium forwards who are difficult to match up on because they are good on the ground and in the air

Dunn as a defensive forward to curb the influence of the Gilbees, Drummands etc, but all provide an option across half forward

Bennel as a small forward? probably prefer Bennel up on a wing, and find a genuine cruming forward

If Woneaemirri can get himself fully fit, he can be that crumbing forward. Because it was a couple of years ago it's easy to forget, but he's done something that nobody else in the entire squad has ever done: won us a game off his own boot.

I really liked the look of our foward line yesterday and it is exciting to see it develop. Jurrah will get better when he has played a few games and that tackle he did was brilliant. Green is just getting more courageous and his pack marks yesterday were great.

I loved how we just kicked it long to Bate everytine and he would mark it. I know he didn't many goals but he sets them up.

And Watts will get there. Sometimes yesterday he could have been a biot more selfish and went for goal but chose to pass it off. Also I find Watts gets space and is often free alot but know one kicks it to him. Anyway I think Watts will get there. Has anyone noticed how we aren't hearing much of Nic Nat anymore. Maybe cause his team is on the bootom and he had only 6 possies ont he weekend.

I said this to the old man as we entered the ground yesterday. Regardless of whether they kick any goals or not, Sylvia and Jurrah command respect and that bodes well for our other forwards. For the first time since Petterd went down we actually looked dangerous up forward. Bailey said as much in his post match comments. The more they play together, the better their understanding and positioning will be.

As for the inside 50's, i think it was blown out in the last quarter when the Demons switched off for the last 10 minutes. Essendon had a heap of entries then. I believe when the game was there to be won we were actually in front. but you are right that when we are losing it relates to the midfield and backs not delivering or providing the run required to get it in there (and quick).

Nic Nat has some freakish talents but doesn't do much else aside from a highlight every now and then. As time goes on it is more proof that Watts was the right call!

Green, Sylvia, Jurrah, Bate and Watts need to play out the year together. They will learn about each other's games, they will learn where to lead, when to lead, how to act as a group and not as individuals. Then we will hit next year with a pretty decent forward line.

Lacks height, but all of them can take a good mark and can play taller than their height suggests (maybe not Watts).

Petterd will return and will add another dimension to the forward line and will allow Sylvia to push up the ground a bit more, and Bennell (and/or Jetta, Wonaeamirri and Maric) will be the crumbing forward.

Now all we need is gametime together.
