Lynden Dunn - We all know him we all know he has let us down at times his game hasn't cut the mustard

We all know he was recruited as a forward and frequently he was disappointing we've had him play through

the midfield down back but when we are at our most depleted in forward line where is he to be found.

He's not in the midfield as a hard tag, no he's not in the defence as a sweeper/ 2nd man up. Where is he, he's

playing for Casey kicking 8 while we're having our pants pulled down.

Why hasn't Dunn been given anytime to contribute in the forward line this year. He's 192cm, he's physically developed.

He's still young 23-24 If he can't mark the thing at least he should be able to bring it to ground. I think the

coaching staff has dropped the ball on Dunn. Trying to add strings to his bow has left him under developed in any single role

he could possibly be proficient at.

He hasn't seemed to be anywhere in our forward line development considering the injuries we've had hence he's the bermuda triangle of our side

Interesting how the coaching staff will not try some players in other positions, such as Rivers, Garland on the forward line when we have an abundance of backs, yet pick some players to be our journeymen. Dunn and Martin showed positive signs, the former up forward the latter down back. Both have been shuffled and lost progress. I'm all for putting Dunn at FF and CHF for the remainder of the year and let him settle there. Our other options just will not work. Miller will never make it(a one skill player-lead up chest mark on the wing), Bate a flanker at best(has virtually no overhead marking ability and when he jumps his feet hardly leave the ground.) Sylvia is best when running freely up toward the midfield and best as a pinch hit mark, he's just to easily swamped when placed at CHF. Watts just needs experience by being rotated through all forward positons. I can't see Newton developing enough to bge retained after this year. Yes Dunn is the only one I think could make it on the forward line.

It's not like Dunn has been kicking bags at Casey for years. In fact I can't recall any previous bags down forward. He deserves a spot against the pies, but to say the coaching dept has failed with him is a huge overstatement. Convenient to say it now, that's it.

Can anyone seriously say they weren't calling for him to be dropped a few weeks ago. I didn't see any lets keep Dunn in the side week after week supporters then.

Has been given numerous chances as a foward both as a floating flanker and as a lead up target. Has only ever shown he is mildly proficient at either role.

He was forced into the midfield when it was clear that he was at best an average forward not because he was better midfielder.

Have to agree with Diablo on Dunn... others who suggest he has shown nothing as a forward are off the pace. I clearly remember Dunn being lively as a half-forward in his early games. He hit up other players with excellent foot skills and I know he can kick the distance from 55mtrs. He is not a big mark specialist, but he has a tank and he is as worthy of 5 or 6 games in our forward line as any others we have tried recently (with the exception of Green). We play blokes who have performed well at Casey (with the exception of Chenney). If we overlook Dunn for a forward role against Maggies... the coach and his helpers have lost the plot. 8 GOALS!!!!!! If he kicks 3 in the seniors he has been a success.

To be fair to Dunn, there are "those" players on our list that are allowed to have the off game, and are given the chance to build form at the top level. The second Dunn has an off game he is swept into the Scorps team. He has not been given a solid 20 matches to learn at the top level. Not only that, but he hasn't played more than 3 matches in the same position. Hard to build form when you have to keep readjusting your style of play.

He may be on the cusp of this team going forward. My suggestion is that he is given a solid 10 games to show that he either does or doesn't belong. At least then we will have done the right thing by him, and our supporters.

It is not like we have forwards banging the door down to get in the team. Get him in for a run.

The coaching staff did what you would expect the coaching staff to do. It's one thing to play a developing 19yr old KP forward, and give him plenty of excuses and chances... but when you've had a number of years in the system and you're not doing the minimum, you're in line for a demotion.

When he was dropped he was finding a bit of the pill, but was pretty ineffective. At that time we had 6 players screaming out for a game. It may have been a case of bad timing for Dunn, but his dropping wasn't ridiculous. In fact, right now timing is on his side. Given how poorly our forwards are doing, and given he kicked an amazing 8, he's an absolute monty to be recalled.

There were a few people that said he was a "bit stiff" to be dropped. I was one of them. I thought he could have been persevered with as he has been finding a bit of the ball... But in the end he was one of probably 3 or so players who were more likely to be dropped than the rest of the side, who at that time were going VERY well.

As for this, Dunn is a forward malarkey... he's been playing forward in his MFC games this year PLENTY and he's done pretty much exactly what he's done in his career to date. This is a pretty normal reaction from 'land fans, including some regular posters, who love to ignore the fact that he's done very little as a forward so far, and hasn't done much to cement a spot with the opportunities he's had... and there've been plenty of them.

Hope springs eternal for this guy, but h's done nothing to fill me with confidence.

Correct. I can recall Dunn actually dropping numerous easy marks inexplicably.

Six years in the system and has shown little to date. He has a day out in the VFL (and well done on that) and all of a sudden poster appear from no where that have had there memory bank erased. Weird.

Hardly. So we missed a forward who made some bad errors and missed some set shots and then was extremely unlucky to get dropped. Gotcha. If there is one thing that Dunn struggles to provide is an effective phyisical contest.

Dunn is 23 has had six years and 59 games in the AFL. If he cant work it out then how many more years does it take. He gets moved around because he cannot command a position in the team as his own. He does not have to readjust his play he just needs to display the pluck to win the contest ball and to ehhibit the skills required to be an AFL footballer.

Excellent post. Despite the sniping from the usual know-alls, there are several keen observers who have been urging Dunn be given a go up forward this year.

He spent a year as a midfielder tagging whoever, presumably to teach him some defensive skills, but has not been returned to the forward line. He is more mobile than Bate, and a sweet kick.

Since Petterd went down we have really struggled up forward. We know Miller won't cut it, Watts is not ready and Green cannot do it all, so I am for Dunn getting a chance.

8 goals with Casey deserves a recall and Dunn certainly deserves it. I'm all for playing him at FF with Green as a roaming pocket and Jetta to play at his feet. Having said this he's been in the system 6 years now, if he gives us nothing in 3 or 4 games then his papers are stamped.

I disagree. This is the sort of post that could really apply to anyone that's not in the team atm. Very predictable post. Where is player A? The match committee have dropped the ball with regards to player A, as our forwardline couldn't function. Nothing about our midfielders or backmen lacking the intensity to run and create, in order to allow our forwardline to perform effectively in the first place!

Dunn may be worth a game next week, but he didn't do enough to retain his spot in the first place and so dropping him was the right decision. He has now played one good game (I haven't been keeping up with Casey stuff over the past couple of weeks -- has he been playing well or was it just this one game?), it was bound to happen -- a supporter criticising the match committee for not playing a player who rightly didn't deserve to keep his spot a couple of weeks ago.

Now don't get me wrong. I'm glad Dunn has played a good game, but it means [censored] all if he can't translate it to senior footy. So whilst I'm glad he's put his hand up, that's all it is atm. He's putting his name in front of the selectors and that's what a player who's been on the list for five-ish years should be doing (at the very least).

I think the same, but lets give him a go. He looks to me from close up, like he is [censored] off with the football world for not believing in him. So, lets give him a month forward to show, us, the team, & the football world & himself if he has the smarts to be a forward.

One way or the other, that may free him up from his frustrations, & he could then move on in his mind to pursue other footy strategies.

I agree with calls he was unlucky to be dropped early on. he was taking lead up marks and using the ball fairly well.

He deserves a call up. personally I would have he and Watts (maybe last chance) rotating deep in the forward line.

His kicking is quite good and might get some confidence if left in the one position. At least we would have someone with size and grunt on our forward line who can use the ball.

Why not experiment???? we were all happy to accept 6 wins plus for the season, at the moment we are not top 8 contenders and even if we were at this stage of our development we would only be there to make up the numbers

In my opinion rather than disgarding players why not experiment if they cant change or produce yes than look at them as trade bait

Agree about Dunn, not about Miller. Given what happened on Saturday, we need a few hard, mature bodies down there. One thing you can say about Miller and Dunn is neither of them are soft. We would not have been pushed around last saturday like we were if both of them had been playing.

Let Watts gain his confidence and his form back at Casey and let's get some hard nuts in there in the back and front half to provide the grunt for our sublimely skillful prodigies. I think we might all be pleasantly surprised what we get. Oh and by the way, McKenzie would be good too. We really missed his hardness at the ball and at the man the last two weeks.

It is time we toughened up and stood up for ourselves and to do that you need the cattle. We have them, we just don't use them.

Dunn played some quite serviceable football for us over the first 7 weeks. He made space and provided a marking option across half forward, provided rucking relief for Jamar much in the same way as Sylvia & Miller have, even chipped in with a smattering of goals.

He lost his spot not because of exceptionally poor performance, but because Watts & Miller were kicking goals at Casey and demanding selection in a side that had lost a couple of games.

Since then, Dunn has played good football at Casey, kicked a serious bag of goals while Miller & Watts have put in a couple of poor performances in the seniors.

You don't need to pass judgement on any of these players' past form or future potential, you simply select the ones whose present form warrants their selection, and it is a pretty clear cut call.
