Sad to read of the passing of a very loyal demon, Clive Fairbairn. Clive played over 200 games with the MCC and was well known for his love of the Demons and the Melbourne Football Club.

A "Rat of Tobruk, he was a life member of the MCC, and was awarded an OAM for his services to the game of cricket and encouragement of young kids. Surprised there was no mention of his passing on the MFC website.

RIP sir. May not have been mentioned on the website but I'm sure the players will honour him with black armbands.

An incredible bloke.

Years ago I went into his sports store in the city to buy my son a footy jumper and we ended up talking for 20 minutes about the Melbourne Cricket Club and the Melbourne Football Club. By my reckoning he would have been close to 70 years old at the time but he had a great knowledge of all of the young up and coming cricketers around town including one of my son's teammates who was a promising young cricketer (at the time in his mid teens).

Fairbairn was the one who took a tall gangly football recruit at the MFC who could also bat a bit under his wing at the MCC (where he was chairman of selectors) and turned him into a fast bowler who played test cricket for Australia. That was Max Walker.

How appropriate that his beloved MCC won a premiership for a great Demon in the year of his passing!

Agree WJ. I also popped into to his store and spoke to him there and elsewhere quite a few times over the years and he was a lovely bloke. Sad to hear of his passing, RIP.

    Demonland Trackwatchers were out in force for training at Gosch's Paddock on Wednesday morning for the MFC's School Holidays Open Training Session. DEMONLAND'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS REHAB: TMac, Chandler, McVee, Tholstrup, Brown, Spargo Brown might have passed his fitness test as he’s back out with the main group.  Sparrow not present.     Demonland Trackwatcher Gator attended training out at Casey Fields to bring you the following observations from Preseason Training. GATOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS There were 5 in the main rehab group, namely Gawn, Petracca, Fullarton, Woewodin and Lever.  Laurie was running laps by himself, as was Jefferson.  Chandler, as has been reported, had his arm in a sling.  Lindsay did a bit of lap running later on.     There were a number of Demonland Trackwatchers at Gosch's Paddock this morning to bring you their observations from Preseason Training.     A few new faces joined our veteran Demonland Trackwatchers on a beautiful morning out at Gosch's Paddock for another Preseason Training Session. BLWNBA'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I arrived at around 1015 and the squad was already out on the track. The rehab group consisted of XL, McAdam, Melksham, Spargo and Sestan.
