Favourite seats at MCG?

Hey guys,

Just wondering what sections of the ground you prefer to sit in as a member without a reserved seat?

Looking to find an ideal spot to sit most weeks, amongst mainly Melbourne supporters. I can't buy a reserved seat membership as the mate i go with is a MCC member, so he wouldn't be up for buying one with me.

Cheers.

Not that it probably helps you but i sit in the AFL members (MFC affiliate) centre wing!! If you want to be surrounded by MAD melbourne fans i am guessing with the cheer squad behind the goals, there is probably a few on here that sit with or are part of the cheers squad??

Thanks for that. I'm not really sure what sections of the ground i can or can't sit in (besides MCC). Can i sit near where the player's bench is? That area looked really good last week, especially when Trengove ran off after that goal!

I always sit on level 2A directly behind the goals in the southern stand. Level 2 is reserved seats for Redlegs members I think, but level 2A is public seating. They look as though they should be reserved seats, but anyone can sit there. I think because they seem as though they should be reserved seats people give it a miss, and head up to level 3.It is a Great view down the ground from a perfect height, and directly above our cheer squad. It would be great to have more fellow demonlanders there!

I'm trying to figure out the same thing, being an MCC member wanting to sit with a mate who is signing up for a membership on the day, but won't have a reserved seat.

Directly behind the goals sounds a bit rough though - isn't there somewhere that gives me a view closer to the wing..?

We sit behind the goals every time we go. Great atmosphere with being close to the cheer squad.

I'll admit it isn't the best veiwing point, but it is also where a lot of magic happens.

In the past three years i've experienced the one point win against Brisbane and last week was the second only win I've experienced whilst sitting there!

We aren't part of the cheer squad, but it's good.

Love the lovely ladies that go around doing the 'first goal kicker' and 'winning margin' comp. It's become a regular thing for my family (including my old man who is a AFL Member too).

Mind you, I've always sat on a wing or a flank.

Might be nice to sit behind the goals for a change.

So level 2...

You can try the Punt Road flank, Southern Stand. As you move towards the wing you'll hit the AFL reserve, which I think extends around to the Ponsford stand. Obviously the opposite side is the MCC and I'm not sure what's unresreved in the Northern stand.

I turn up usually with a group of 4-8 people, all mates. We love a sunny Sunday afternoon game in the Southern stand, right in the pocket away from lots of people. The kind of GA seats families usually go to. I always regarded these seats as the cheap ones... basically at an MFC game the one place you can go if you don't want to get angry at some nuff nuff, and sit away from other nuff nuffs.

I have tried a few other seats recently, and to be honest I prefer the view from up in the highest tier. Except for the far pocket, you can see a LOT of the game unfolding. Now when I sit in MCC members, or behind the city end goals, I miss out on a lot of the game compared to the cheap seats. It's kind of an amazing thing when you think about it. In other sports the cheap seats are horrible. Think NBA, NFL... In Aussie rules, in many ways they're as good as some of the hoighty toighty ones.

Nothing beats being on the boundary though. That's awesome.

Northern stand, top level (right at the front), centre-wing (right up against the MCC divider fence).

Not looking into the sun and it gives you the best view to follow the player movements and coaching strategies.

This for Melbourne games, for non-Melbourne games I like to sit down the bottom and get a bit closer to the action.

To sit with all the Melbourne fans, your best bet is from the MCC, right along the wing past the goals at the Punt Rd. end, to the pocket.

I sit right on the wing in the Southern Stand, first level, right in front of the Red Rooster.

Level 2 reserved "Redleg seats".....level 2a is reserved "Redlegs Area".... Able to get guest passes in this area. Great area to sit.

I think I disagree with almost every opinion you gave in the above :P

GAMEDAY: Rd 10 vs West Coast

It's Game Day and the Demons have returned to the site of their drought breaking Premiership to take on the West Coast Eagles in what could very well be a danger game for Narrm at Optus Stadium. A win and a percentage boost will keep the Dees in top four contention whilst a loss will cast doubt on the Dees flag credentials and bring them back to the pack fighting for a spot in the 8 as we fast approach the halfway point of the season.

    WARNING by William from Waalitj

As a long term resident of Waalitj Marawar, I am moved to warn my fellow Narrm fans that a  danger game awaits. The locals are no longer the easybeats who stumbled, fumbled and bumbled their way to the good fortune of gathering the number one draft pick and a generational player in Harley Reid last year. They are definitely better than they were then.   Young Harley has already proven his worth with some stellar performances for a first year kid playing among men. He’s taken hangers, k

OVER YET? by KC from Casey

The Friday evening rush hour clash of two of the VFL’s 2024 minnows, Carlton and the Casey Demons was excruciatingly painful to watch, even if it was for the most part a close encounter. I suppose that since the game had to produce a result (a tie would have done the game some justice), the four points that went to Casey with the win, were fully justified because they went to the best team. In that respect, my opinion is based on the fact that the Blues were a lopsided combination that had

    CENTIMETRES by Whispering Jack

Our game is one where the result is often decided by centimetres; the touch of a fingernail, a split-second decision made by a player or official, the angle of vision or the random movement of an oblong ball in flight or in its bounce and trajectory. There is one habit that Melbourne seems to have developed of late in its games against Carlton which is that the Demons keep finding themselves on the wrong end of the stick in terms of the fine line in close games at times when centimetres mak

    POSTGAME: Rd 09 vs Carlton

The Demons were blown out of the water in the first quarter and clawed their way back into the contest but it was a case of too little too late as they lost another close one to Carlton losing by 1 point at the MCG.
