Scully/Trengove Umpired out of Game

Did anyone else notice that both Tom Scully and Jack Trengove seemed to be targetted for soft penalties? On at least six occasions they were penalised for what looked like very dubious reasons. I wonder whether they are noticed more by the umps because of all the publicity surrounding their arrival on the AFL scene. It seems to me they were got at.

No, I don't agree. Although I did think the umpring in general was below par yesterday.

Scully gave away a couple of undsciplined free kicks in front of goal yesterday, holding the man and push in the back

type free kicks which he was suckered into. All part of the learning curve for him.

Overall though I thought the two of them were good contributors.

Yes, you can see why the officianados love the look of Trengove. Everything he does is class, and is a very quick tackling machine. Very much in the Chris Judd mode IMO.

It's hard to say the free kicks were undisciplined.

They were a result of poor judgement in the heat of battle.

When they are recognized in the media as stars they will be protected species, just like the rest.

Another pointless and incorrect umpire bleat. Good grief. Scully and Trengove made errors yesterday and got pinged for it. Lets hope they learn from it quicker than our supporters do.

Funny...I leant over and said the same thing to my brother at the game yesterday. Trenners started at 75% of the centre bounces yesterday. Scully held down a wing for 75% of the day. These guys are going to win serious respect this year. And then the psychological pipsqueaks in yellow, white (or whatever) will start seeing free kicks that they never used to see.

It would be nice for a change, right? How many times have we seen Judd, Ablett et al. get the softest of soft free kicks against Melbourne?!?!?!

I actually think most free's they both gave away were there, I think the ones trengove did not get for being held and too high were more concerning.

The umps missed about 4 or 5 for trengove.

I dont think they were unfairly treated, but I do think the umpired have it tough when they have to follow the stupid rules they are told to follow. If they dont pay them, they are the ones who are dropped.

There 3/4 holding the balls paid yesterday that I dont understand. Strauss for one, he had the ball for a couple of seconds, nobody touching him. He got tackled for 0.01 of a second, then he handpassed but was still given holding the ball, the commentators were also perplexed.

Then other players get spun 360 and get away with it.

Some players are allowed to do anything while others cant touch a player, unfortunately that is the way it goes.

ALso, how did bloody Heath Shaw get away with his holding/dropping the ball against Green with 2 minutes to go, and Bennels holding the man when he was 40 out with 3 mins to go. Both blatant frees but the umpirse put the whistle away when the game is on the line.

Bennell on the MCC wingheld around his lower legs no less reaching out for the ball on the turf 2metres in front of him!!!

Umpire 22 missed the most disgraceful holding free to the Dees in our backline and 20 seconds paid a soft holding free against Scully (who had knocked the ball clear in his tackle) for a Filth goal.

Robbed.
