Wish i had Heard that. I like Martin Pike. When he talks Footy i listen, he has been through it all. From Fitzroy to 4 Premierships.

Maybe the cub should get him down to talk to our young guys...not many have 4 premierships in the modern era.

A talented player who was absolutely KOTD as being in the right place at the right time for success.

But as a role model for young players....please you jest.

He could do a Comedy show act with Fevola

wasn't pike a bit of a dropkick and that was why Melbourne got rid of him?

Yes, he had some drinking issues as a young bloke- Always had talents with us but would often fade in Games (fatigue i suspect)

Yes he mended his ways in more disciplined environment from what i have heard him say.

Good example of why this club has to sharpen up just that little bit on every level.

No RR i beg to differ-he had issues, but he wised up.

And they are often the best people to talk to because they know both sides well.

You thought Shane Warne was a down to earth knockabout bloke.

He had serious issues at 3 clubs, MFC (sacked), Fitzroy (folded with allegations of misbehaviour) and North where he was delisted for further off field troubles.

Brisbane were fortunate to get 3 to 4 years out of him before he allegedly assaulted a BFC official after the 2004 GF loss.

I am not surprised you would listen to him.

And you are such an Angel RR who has never Transgressed any line.

The Guy won 4 Flags and started his AFL career at our club-i am sure he could pass on some very usefull information.

I am not saying he should take all our young kids out for a night on the [censored]!!

A Chat inside the Club is a lot different. FFS

And btw i would sit down & listen to Shane Warne talk Cricket for Hours if i had the chance, & so would you RR

As a footballer he had serious issues off the ground. He is not the first but why do you need to gloss the facts WYL. You get found out every time.

I am not sure what a bloke with a chequered off field behavioural record has for young blokes at our Club.

Even you could have come up with a better choice of doing that role if you actually thought about it.

For he how performed over the course of his career he was blessed to be part of 4 flags. I have seen many better players who have not played in one

But RR you miss the point. You cannot buy the experience of playing in 4 flags. Not even the great R Flower could speak on that subject, because he was not there.

His off field has nothing to do with what happens on the ground in september or the lead up to it. They are 2 seperate things.

When i have heard Pikey speak on what is required to get there 4 times-he knows.

How is that detrimental to young new Hungry players?

No I understand it. I dont see the point of getting a dubious character who had moderate talent and got KOTD with 4 flags talking to a group of young players who are possibly three years away from playing finals.

His habitual off field matters are a reflection of the sort of person he is. Its very relevant to the guidance of young players. Surely, there are better options to use for that role. I am not sure you are a sound judge of who would actually "knows" what's what.

To what end though? Get him in to have a lazy chat with a few kids?

There's also a certain Melbourne man who is our Number One ticket holder at present. Think he played in a final or two.

I think we, as supporters, forget that these players know each other and a lot of the "majesty" goes away when you're inside the industry (like with the whol Chris Judd story).

There is alot of talk about Bailey's performance as senior coach, however, we may agree that he is a good development coach. MAKE HIM DEVELOPMENT COACH and let him work with the young players that he has already invested 2 years of time. By having him as development coach, we can kinda honor his 2 year contract, and our money does not entirely go to waste.

VINEY FOR COACH

Fooball Manager: Connolly

Assitants; Lovell, Yates, Lyon, West

Development Coach; Bailey

Fitness; Tingay

Lets have as many MFC boys creating the future spirit of the playing group.

Rock'n'Roll, DEMONTIME!!!!

im not sure how much to take from this but i have heard it twice in the past two days, and i am going to put it out here for discussion/critisism.

Leigh Matthews is going to be the MFC coach before the season is ended with bailey to stay on in some role

Peoples thoughts?

For mine, i can't see it happening.

I get it.

April Fool's Day.

Good one.

no its not, i first heard this on Tuesday and then again today.

i guarantee its not april fools joke

If a new coach comes in Bailey won't be staying on.

I'd be having a crack at Paul Roos ...

why wouldn't he stay on?

you can guarantee he wouldn't get a gig at another afl club, and by all reports he is a good development/assistant coach but his match day stuff needs a lot of work

It could happen but I would have my money on the new appointee bringing in his own crew. This is almost always the case.

Paul Roos won't do it.

If you know anything about the man himself, you'll know that.

Both Pagan and Matthews had lengthy periods in their coaching career where the teams they sent out on to the ground put in many a performance just as insipid as we did against the Hawks.

To put it bluntly we have gone for the best young talent we could at each of the last 3 drafts. The only experienced players brought in were Meeson who had played 2 games and Joel McDonald this year. Given we had no A Grade Exprienced Players on the list at the end of 2007 this was the right thing to do. It is also fairly clear that a comprehensive rebuild while laying the foundation for a core of talented players to come through together and be the basis of the team that can give us Nm13 would see some tough years and some tough games in the first 3 - 4 years. When you factor in injuries to Jurrah, Watts, Wona, Gsrland, Morton and Sylvia our deptrh was always going to be tested in the first half of this season making any judgement on Bailey's ability premature indeed.

Hopefully by the second half of this season and next year we will be able to put something like our best 22 on the park and our performances will improve significantly.

Bailey would be one of the most sought-after assistant coaches if he was available. Indisputable.

But even if he couldn't get another coaching job, Bailey would not stay on.

Senior Coaches DO NOT get demoted and stay on at the club. It would be embarrassing and degrading.

Very very rarely do interim coaches stay on in some capacity if they don't get the head job (Crocker is the only one I can think of), but never a Senior Coach.

It's true.

You can take it to the bank.

Same as Neil Craig.

Unless you are either his inner voice or his wife (even then you wouldn't be 100% sure), how can you possibly make such an assertion?

The cocksuredness of your posts is astounding KS.

Maybe it's because I'm cocksured..?

Or it could be because Roos has repeatedly stated that he is not a career coach and has no intention of coaching any club other than Sydney FC, ever.

But hey, delude yourself at your own leisure.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

Lever was also on restricted duties and appeared to be in runners.  The main group was doing end-to-end transition work in a simulated match situation. Ball mov

WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. Windsor's run won't be lost playing off half back. In 19 games in 2024 he kicked 8 goals as a winger. I see him getting shots at g

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
