Operating surplus of $213.5 million

Now just handball over 1% of that in small change Vlad. demon_cool.gif

Oh yeah! So happy that Vlad managed to line his pockets some more - its all about the cash right?

..meanwhile the actual game itself, continues to get [censored] from all sides.

Thats cool, the AFL has made a bit more money, Demetri[censored] got his bonus (from records that the fans, not he, broke) - doesnt matter that the Umpiring, MRP panel, Rules and the state of the game are all so substandard, its getting closer to being a hybrid of basketball and soccer..

Vlad could hand over ALL that $213 million - just to the Dees.. it wont stop the game from turning to sh!t.

Biggest mistake this game will ever see, is Andrew Demetriou.

could not agree with you more

it is only going to get worse too, Vlad will be happy to see the end of North and ourselves in favour of two more new interstate sides as long as it gets a few pennies more

I genuinely struggle to keep interest in watching a neutral game of footy these days because of the farce it has become

The biggest example is the near-complete removal of the physical side of the game - this WAS one of the things that made or game unique, tough and brilliant to watch, but see we are competing with soccer for supporters and they don't want to have any of the mothers turned off their sons being involved if they see too much tough stuff on TV

Makes me sick

'Censored'?? ohmy.gif

Should i have said.. 'anally invaded'? demon_biggrin.gif

Yep C & B - watching a neutral game is where it stands out the most , cause youre not barracking for any team or anyone

and you see the game for what it is.

LOL at the morons who hate footy but still watch it. Am I the only one who still enjoys watching a game of footy that doesn't involve Melbourne. Hell, the match is guaranteed to be at least 50% better for our team's absence.

That's not what I said. But I have seen a few posts saying "If it weren't for Melbourne, I'd have given up this dog of a game long ago."

I absolutely hang out for Melbourne games. But I also watch at least bits of every other game every week. I just get the feeling some people here wish footy was like it was in the "good old days" when forwards didn't chase and fat people got to play at the highest level.

It is great Aussie Rules is in such a healthy state financially. All of the competitive codes would love to be in such a position. If you dont believe me, just look at the current state of Rugby Union. It is a mess, and really struggling financially, in spite of its strong international base.

The AFL should be congratulated for developing such a strong code in purely a domestic game, quite un-precedented in world sport. Relatively, it is far healthier than even the NFL in the US.

Nope. The players, the fans and the clubs should be. I don't see how the Fat Controller has done anything to write home about.

Before the AFL Commission was established the Game was going no where and was controlled by the self interested clubs.

Since it has been established, the games has gone truly National (the basis of the lucrative TV deals on which the economics of football is based),ground rationalisation providing first class fan facilities, salary cap, drafting, codes of behavior have been inforced placing our code of football miles in front of any other in the land. That is why the NRL are desparately trying to set up something similar so it can compete.

Sure the game needs fans and clubs, but they had that before. What was missing was first class organisation which has made the game the leading sport in Australia, and the envy of its competitors.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
