Yay! McNamara's in the squad.

I'm totally baffled as to why he hasn't played either of the past 2 games.

Dunn too.

Good to have aussie back in there.

Looks like we are going in 6 - 8 short of the A team. I'm getting the feeling that the pieces are coming together nicely for a Round One tilt at the Hawks. Plus continuing to get game time into and knowledge of Gysberts, McKenzie, Maric, Cheney, McNamara, Bail, Strauss and Fitzpatrick. Jeeez I'm looking forward to the real stuff starting...

Nowhere near as enthusiastic about Dunn as I am about McNamara. And Aussie, for that matter.

Those bolded are those who you would think would be certain to play Round 1 (if fit). So that's a pretty sizeable missing list from our 'Best 22'.

Rapt to have Aussie back. Just rapt. Also pleased to see how little Tommy Mac goes - he is very young still and I wonder if he's going to be one of those blokes that just slowly develops. No idea how he'll go, but best of luck to him.

Aussie, my only request is that you come through without injury. I don't care if you have donuts. All I want is game time and being injury-free.

I'd doubt very much that Watts will play Round !. I like seeing McNamara and Strauss playing. If McNamara makes it It allows us the freedom to play Garland forward. And Strauss was pick 18 in the Superdraft so I'm expecting quite a bit from him. He needs to stay fit and on the field.

Any team adding Bate, Bruce, Davey, Moloney and Sylvia for round 1 is going to be better off.

Does anyone know what is wrong with hughes? he didnt play last year not going to play this year whats the point in having him on the list. how old is he? 24?

If he's fit, and I mean 100% fit, I think he will play.

Agree with all this. I see a real future for McNamara, and he should be playing much more regularly than he currently is. And anyone with Strauss' footskills is a walk-up start into a Melbourne side. Fitness and experience are what he needs most.

Very happy with the changes (except for Morton...)

Hopefully Watts, Bate, Garland, Bruce and Blease can get a run in the last practice match, although I have no idea how close they are to being ready.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
