I think the right decision was made, but I've seen guys get weeks for similar incidents.

I think it helped Broughton's case that Petterd got straight back up and kicked the goal.

I suppose there is 2 ways of looking at the incident

1. Making head contact whether accidental or not has a penalty

2. Pettard slipped at the wrong moment and therfore contributed to the head high collision

To be honest i am glad there was no penalty and that Pettard wasnt hurt

I thought ignoring the ball to initiate contact left you open to whatever happens next, so I'm not convinced the slip should necessarily come into play.

Passing the ball to lay a shirtfront I thought was frowned upon by the league.

Honestly, I thought he was going to be rubbed out. It wasn't so much that he went past the ball to bump a player, but it looked very much like he lifted his elbow. If that's the case then it becomes a much more serious charge.

i am happy he didnt go. i think it was an accidental high collision that was part of the game (physical contact is part of the game) which deserved, and got, a free kick for high contact.

bumping or pushing or any other form of contact is legal if the wall is within 5 meters and the contact complies with the rules (ie not too high or in the back etc). if high or dangerous contact is not purposeful it should just be a free kick. my only exception is cleaning up a player, hip to the head, if the player is running to pick the ball up, that should always be weeks. but almost any side on bump where clash of heads, or slight head contact occurs should not be a report, just a free kick.
