Whilst we are discussing memberships, sponsorships, should Bails gain an extension etc.. one thing entered my mind --that is we need to plan for the match against Brisbane in China on the 17th October 2010.http://www.foxsports.com.au/story/0,8659,26379003-5018851,00.html

.This, indeed will make a very long season, especially for our young team.We would want to go full bore and play our best available team as China could become a paradise for us in the future. Re for gaining players, sponsors etc.. a GOLDMINE brewing. As we all know, we have invested there over the last few yearsd, got tremendous network via our former No 1 ticket holder John So. Therefore, we need to keep in mind that this season is going to be perculiar- in that the players most probably will only have a short break if we do not make he finals or still train on if we do. This also will change the normal pattern of pre season for 2011. This indeed maybe also why Bails may get an early extension

Your thoughts?

For now JCB, I would imagine the trip to China for an exhibition match against Brisbane in October (after trade week mind you) would not be entering the minds of the the Football Department. They would be somewhat aware of proceedings and the announcement for October. But they would have more important issues at the forefront of their minds. Pre-season training, game simulation, intra-club, concern for injuries & rehab, NAB Cup preparation & Round 1 of the Home & Away season.

I'm sure off the field preparations may have begun and the significance of the trip the club would be well aware of.

Depending upon injuries at the conclusion of the season & perhaps even availability of some players, this will determine what kind of team the club assembles for China. I would imagine the club will take alot of youth mixed with some experienced players.

It's a long way off though.

And fwiw, I don't see how this exhibition trip would have anything to do with an extension to Bailey's contract.

I can imagine this game significantly lining our pockets... no?

Mind you, I doubt much money was made from the games I attended in London.

(interestingly Geelong and Port played in the offseason before they met in the Grand Final, so I'm not sure you can say this sort of thing has a detrimental effect on the preparation leading into a season...)

To my knowledge the AFL sponsor these exhibition games-pay the clubs for going to meet all costs etc..however the opportunity for the MFC could be amazing- re sponsorship and membership if indeed it is a success and we keep driving momentum. Need to really penetrate this financial drive in China at the Expo.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
