And to think when Chip first started there were lots of posters bagging him, wonder if there now the ones who love him.?????

Thankfully I didn't read this forum at that stage cos I would've lost my rag.

How could anyone not see his potential?

The same with Garland.......

There were a lot of people getting stuck into Garland and Frawley when they started.

It shows the importance of patience and a level head.

And not a truer word spoken Axis and that will needed this year, and I am waiting to see these young kids develop throughout the year.

P.S on a side note if the club does not get some wins early and the media start to go after DB what's the bet they extend the contract to kill the moment, odds on I say.

True, but when you look at how many games we have at the G in the first half of the season, if we don't win a few games then, when will we?

I think we should expect to win at least 3-4 of the first 9 games, and if we don't we have something to worry about. Or rather, Bailey does.

Chip is already there, but the average follower hasn't realised it yet.

The litmus test was the Carlton game when Fevola kicked 7. Only 1 of those was when Frawley was on him and if I remember ...that was to half time. Bailey had to ensure the required result, so he took the kid off the Coleman medallist, and sacrificed McNamara.

Then to the St.Kilda game....only 1 goal to Riewoldt when Chip was on him. The remainder of his score happened when Frawley was benched, again to achieve the required result.

2 of the best forwards for 2009..... Both beaten by by a 21 year old!

Trouble is...not many have noticed because of the on-ground results. In 2010 when we are playing to win, then his name will be mentioned more often.......and Riewoldt and Fevola will still only kick scraps against him..

you're kidding? every other club in the comp would trade for frawley if he was available, and while he might not be key back no.1 at all teams in round 1 he would definitely get a starting 18 spot.

im not saying he will get AA this season, but he will be a superb talent over the next decade and other afl supporters and clubs know that.

HE IS NOT CLOSE TO AN AA SPOT, I think we can all agree.

I didn't say he was a bad player...read the posts in full. All your doing is repeating what I said.

You are right.

I always look for a few key signs plus any special attribute and then hope they develop. With Frawley, he showed during his 1st preseason that he had a great deal of pace and an uncanny ability to create run for a long term key defender.

Garland showed poise and read the play well. I even liked his game against Hawthorn in RD1 2008. He got smashed by a lot of posters here but I couldn't get past his talent.

If I were to get a jumper and a number it would be 8, 20 or 12.... but I won't as I am over 25.

Can't agree more Georgie boy.

Chippa towelled up some decent players last season and is only getting better.

If you check the tape of both those games you might find that 1/7 stat not quite accurate but you're right in respect of the fact that once off the ground, his opponents gained confidence and got their games going so it's really irrelevant that they might have gotten an extra goal or two once that happened. Frawley still has a way to go but he is already a very solid member of an emerging quality defence. He can only get better.

Leave my Eagles alone! Our late season run was looking great until we ran into Dallas...twice. They pulled a Melbourne v Hawthorn 1990 on us.

Haha I would kill to have DeShawn Jackson in a Dees guernsey!

That bloke is quick!

Just for the record- Fevola kicked two before half time. However, do not recall if both was on Frawley.Got an idea, one was one Rivers.

Extract from AFL states. Fevola, who also kicked seven last time these teams met, had one in each of the first two terms, but booted four in the third and then another in the last to give him 81 for the year.2009 results on AFL website.

There was a thread on bigfooty* the other day where people named their 'young' AA sides (under 22 or something) and heaps of people had Frawley as a key back. When you consider that a lot of people don't even bother watching us play i think it speak volumes for him. BTW some Bombers fan had 5 Demons in the starting 18 of his side

*yes I aware it is full of DHeads, but not exclusively, and it still represents the populous

Top bloke and a credit to the Melbourne football club.

Interesting to hear some of the theories on here. One that I disagree with is that he can't do it without a good midfield. I can't go with that. I reckon that's true of any forward who relies on delivery. But if we're getting done, he'll be relied on a lot more. In other words, he'll be tested... Making people rate him a LOT higher if his numbers are even in the same ballpark as a KP defender in a top-4 side.

The Eagles looked a little gun shy (being the playoff's and all!). From what I gather they have had the best offensive figures all season, but they ran into a train in Dallas with good defensive pressure applied by the Cowboys.

Dallas are the one team they were to compete against who matched up on them perfectly. The Eagles could have owned just about every other side with a solid team, good (but patchy) defence, gun receivers (Jackson - wow!) and the big surprise in Michael Vick who can do anything on a football pitch.

McNabb is a choker and will be moved on at seasons' end to make way from Kolb, and Vick will be traded.

I didn't want to say it to my mate, who lives and breathes Eagles, but they looked just like us in 2006. When it came to finals/playoffs, they didn't have the ticker. Pure and simple. They were embarrassed last weekend.

Everyone knows that not every non-dees supporter would laugh at this. Every time.

Everyone.

And this makes a difference how? They laughed at Hawks' supporters saying the same thing about their players 4 years ago, they laugh about every up-and-coming team just before they make their rise, Hell, they laugh when ANY teams' supporters get a hard-on for ANY player other than those on their own list.

In terms of opposition supporters rating Frawley, I'd say of the young genuine career KP defenders in the league he'd be in the top 3 of everyone's' list. And Bigfooty supports this theory.

HE IS NOT CLOSE TO AN AA SPOT, I think we can all agree.

Yes. But if he WERE close to an AA spot, it would hardly be newsworthy, or a worthy prediction even. I'm going early on this. Maybe a season early because I know gold when I see it, and after he stars next season and starts being rated as an AA prospect for 2011, it'll be just another thread.

I think you miss that I was poking fun at his stupid argument and the use of "everyone" and "every opposition supporter" which happens far too frequently.

I agree that Frawley is a beast and he is one of my top 3 fav at the club.

Chip is such a versatile sportsperson too!

According to today's HUN (at p72) James Frawley and his partner Nick Kyrgios went down to second seeded German pair Kevin Krawietz and Dominik Schulz 3-6, 5-7 in the first round of the Australian Open Tennis Junior Boys Doubles.

I believe he's a handy cricketer on top of all that. :)

Posted

Yeah, Frawley's only gonna improve, I think he'll be all australian within the next 2-3 years at least, when the Dees will be in the premiership race

Ruddy hope so-I think he could develop into a star.

on the website he's only listed as weighing 91kg...considering his size i would have gussed he weighs over 100kg

i would think 91kg would be a tad small to contain the real monster forwards in one-on-one wrestles

THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
